The area
Address
Neighborhood: Chamberí
Multi-story residential buildings decorated with ornate balconies line the traditional, quiet, and pretty streets of Chamberí. Humble storefronts and neighborhood taverns are scattered across the lower levels down every block, and here and there, there's a cluster of tables on the sidewalk. It isn't ever crowded, but people are always out, poking into the tiny bakeries, hardware stores, and tobacco shops, or ducking into a bright, unadorned cerveceria to have a coffee or beer by the bar, flip through the paper, and check the sports score. The round Plaza Olavide, where the fairly regular network of streets breaks form, is among the most green and lively spots. Restaurants line its circumference and sought-after outdoor tables fill the center of the plaza, where people relax to the sounds of kids playing and street musicians' tunes.

Radio Taxi Madrid Aeropuerto
Dec 2019
We exited the airport and followed the signs to the taxi area. It is an organised system with people directing you to taxis. We had our address written in both English and Spanish as a precaution. We do this in each city using the hotels internet site for the information.
The fee is a fixed 30 Euro and on our exit we used the same system and the same price. Taxis were clean and well presented and the driver knew were to go once he saw our note as they spoke very little English.
There is the Metro which is cheaper and would have taken us to Atocha main station 200m from the hotel. But when we used the system we noticed a lot of stairs and that would have made carrying bags quite a hassle so use the Taxi

May be the Only easy way to go to you hotel.
Oct 2019
At the exit of the airport, you will find the person who organizes the taxis. Ask for a taxi to take you to a city center Hotel. Make sure that the taxi driver heard that you agreed about the Fixed fees ( 30 Euros ). you will be dropped at the entrance of your hotel .Pay the fees, No problem whatsoever. The other alternative is the Metro ( very difficult ). To us the Taxi is the Only option. Have a nice and easy trip.

Rip Off By Airport Taxi - Take An Uber Instead
May 2018 • Couples
We arrived in Madrid after traveling over 30 hours from Sydney so we were tired. I read that an Uber was around 20 to 30 Euro and the Taxi was a fixed rate of 30 so for convenience sake we took the taxi. We told the driver our exact address on Calle Mayor but he dropped us off on Plaza Sol and told us that the taxi could not access that area and that it was a short walk. In fact it was about a 15 minute walk with our rolling luggage over cobblestone streets and in fact the driver could have left us exactly at our address but we just too lazy to take us there. What a rip off. We paid for a taxi to be taken point to point to our destination, not to be left in the general area and told to walk. Of course I should have taken a photo of his license but after 30 hours I was not thinking straight. Forget the taxi and take an Uber. That way you have the name and contact info of your driver as a matter of course and an Uber driver would not dare leave you to walk 15 minutes for fear of getting back ratings. Not a great way to arrive in a country and not a great first impression of Spain. Taxi's deserve to becoming a vestige of the past with this horrible customer service

Pleasent experience

Our driver was very nice and friendly driver. The car was nice, clean and well air-conditioned for American standards. He also offers internet connection on his iPad, which is great to avoid expensive roaming taxes. Thank you.

Flat rate is a rip off. Take an UBER
Aug 2017 • Business
I arrived at 12.45am and got into one of the taxis in the queue opting to take this instead of waiting for an UBER to arrive. What a mistake. The driver charged me the fixed rate even if I was going to an Airport Hotel a ... ride shouldn't have cost more than 15€ even with high traffic. What a rip off.

A positive experience

Took a random taxi from the Plaza de España to the outlet centre Las Rozas Village for ~27€ and another from Gran Vía to the airport for a fixed price 30€. We thought both prices were reasonable since 1) we used a hotel taxi on arrival to the centre for 35€ and 2) we didn't even know that the 30€ price is a fixed price for a taxi drive from the centre to the airport so special thanks to the driver!

Airport Taxi way way too costly
Feb 2017 • Business
I understand when a tourist visits a city for the first time, he is not really sure about the public transport and opts for a taxi and I did the same. I regret that I must say.
The rate is flat 30 euros which is way too much.

I would recommend using train or metro or a bus. That is way too cheap and easily manageable even for the first timers. All you need to do is ask at the information/tourist counter and they will guide you.

Ripped off
Feb 2017 • Couples
Taxi from airport to downtown is a flat rate of 30 Euro. When the driver dropped us off at our hotel, he said in broken English that because of bad traffic the cost was 45 Euro. Then he said 40 Euros. He wouldn't let us out until we paid. Of course, we were jet lagged and didn't think to take a photo of the taxi number, which our hotel staff told us we should have done. Our lesson: take an Uber or the subway to get around town. We're not going to risk getting ripped off again by a taxi. Too bad for the honest cab drivers out there.
