Neighborhood: Paseo del Prado
The area around the elegant Paseo del Prado boulevard is much-visited by both locals and tourists. The world-famous Prado, the Reina Sofia, and the Thyssen-Bornemisza museums form a triangle of art and culture that spans this grand and beautiful avenue. On weekdays, the Prado Museum opens its doors for free after-work hours, drawing a diverse and excited queue of art lovers that wraps around the block. Palacio de Cibeles and Círculo de Bellas Artes cultural centers are other artsy hangouts to check out, with rooftop bars that provide impressive views of the city. While the Paseo del Prado and its roundabouts form a busy throughway in Madrid, a broad green pedestrian park in the middle is a calm and gorgeous place for a relaxing stroll. Just east of the museums, the Retiro Park is always a confluence of activity as families and friends of all ages take to the pretty paths and lawns to stretch their legs or to have a picnic.

Cartel General De La Armada is a museum dedicated to the Spanish Navy but to be honest never seen it open to the public so I could be wrong but I must say this building impressed me when I first viewed it and it still does.
Built in the 1920's ,its a great example of Neo Gothic architecture, wondrous on the eye,set in really pretty and well kept gardens ,its a building most definitely well worth checking out if you're in the Paseo De Prado area and easy to locate along Calle De Montalban.

Cuartel general de la Armada is the headquarters of the Spanish Navy. It is a neo-gothic building, built in the 1920s. We could not go inside but it does look quite grand from the outside. It is close to Retiro Park, a number of great museums, like the Prado, Thyssen and Reina-Sofia, as well as numerous other attractions.

Cuartel General De La Armada is yet another amazing building in the Paseo Del Prado neighbourhood which we discovered as we were wandering down Gran Via and Calle De Alcala.
This is a military building and is off limits to the general public, the well guarded sentry boxes are very imposing but it's still nice to just stop and admire the grand architecture of this building.
Built in the 1920's in the Neo Gothic style of architecture of the popular at the time the building certainly looks superb and makes for some great photographic opportunities, this building also has a beautiful well kept garden area again off limits to the general public but you can view the gardens through the very impressive metal fence and magnificent gate.
Cuartel General De La Armada is really easy to locate on Calle Montalban in an area of outstandingly beautiful architecture and a major tourist destination.
Most definitely well worth checking out.

Museum for the building had signs directing tourist to the entrance. Multiple local and foreign tourist were waiting for the museum to open during its posted opening hours. It never did. Calls to the number went unanswered and there were no signs announcing that the museum was closed let alone when it may open.

This is yet another amazing looking building on the way heading south toward the Prado that is being used as a government ministry. You will find similar amazing buildings all over this part of Madrid that you cannot get access to.
