Recently Madrid has gone to some wonderful uplifting near Puerta del Sol. With the arrival of the Apple Store and a few yards away the grand opening of the 4Seasons Hotel a 5 Stars hotel, has made that area a very trendy place to be. I just recently visited a new underground and excellent gourmet paradise, right under the 4Seasons Hotel ( no association to it) nevertheless full of the same luxury, and sophisticated decor. One is in another world with a very spacious and an array of choices from fine liquors, and a selection of many international cuisines to choose from, surrounded with a most avant-garde art craft and subdue illuminations. Aplace to relax in great and elegant comfort.

Very long and wide avenue.
If you walk from Puerta del sol up to Retiro park you'll go past some spectacular plazas and buildings.
One of the streets that gives Madrid it's grandeur.

Starting in the Centre of Madrid, this major street crosses the city towards North-East, all the way almost to the airport. Its downtown segment, however, is memorable dur to the beautiful, majestic buildings on both sides, as well as the large traffic circles in its way, most of them marked by fountains, statues, and proudly maintained landscaped flowers.

Stretching 10.5 kilometres Calle De Alcala ,a street that is jawdroppingly beautiful, the architecture down this famous street is awesome.
The architecture here is an itinerary of some of the most notable buildings in Madrid such as Teatro Alazar,Teatro Apolo ,Banco De Espana,Casino De Madrid,Metropolis, Iglesia De San Jose, La Cruz De Malta,Palacio De Bona Vista,Plaza De Cibeles,Puerta De Alcala and many many more amazing structures, the street is also famous for some of its high end retail outlets and theres plenty of pubs, bars and restaurants tucked away in the pretty plaza's just off Calle De Alcala.
Well worth checking out if your planning a holiday to Madrid.

We walked along Calle de Alcala a few times as we went to various sights. It's a very long street, in fact one of the longest in Madrid. This is a street that can take you to many different sights and a central spot would be Retiro Park. There are numerous landmarks along the way and there is never a dull moment. And there is some really beautiful architecture as well. You will keep looking around so you won't miss anything.

Calle de Alcalá is the longest street in Madrid, starting at the Puerta del Sol and stretches for 10.5 km to the northeastern outskirts of the city. It is one of the oldest streets in the city and was the old road which led to the city of Alcalá de Henares and continued to Aragón. Some of the most emblematic buildings and monuments of the City are to be found along the route. If you have a couple of days to spare there are undoubted gems to discover, museums to visit, shops to explore or just enjoy a few of the cafés and window shop.

If Madrid were a person, Calle Alcala would surely be a major artery. This is the longest and one of the oldest streets of Madrid. It starts at Puerta del Sol and continues north-east till it merges onto the A-2 motorway. Along the way, it passes through major Madrid landmarks like Plaza de Cibeles, Palacio de Cibeles, Plaza de la Independencia, Puerta de Alcala, Retiro Park, Banco de Espana and many others. Most of the important buildings of Madrid are located on or around the road and several other major roads like the Gran Via lead off it.

Along the road are famous theatres, cafes and other Madrid attractions which make this avenue unavoidable on a tour of Madrid.

Definitely not to be missed on a tour of Madrid.

The longest street in Madrid and one of the oldest, Calle de Alcala has much to offer a visitor to the city. As an architecture buff, I enjoy looking at its buildings, from the Bank de Espana to my absolute favorite -- Cybelle Palace (Palacio de Comunicaciones) with its myriad elements, including Art Deco and Spanish Plateresque. Puerta de Alcala, an impressive arch, always captures my attention, as does the stunning Fountain of Cibeles, where the Roman goddess has been sculpted, sitting in a chariot pulled by two lions.

Broad Calle de Alcala has always been busy with much traffic when I have been on it in late morning or early evening. It starts at the eastern edge of Puerto del Sol and runs for about 6.5 miles to the far northeast part of the city.

I recommend strolling the portion between its start and just beyond Puerta de Alcala. There are many shops and restaurants to consider near Puerto del Sol, and magnificent Retiro Park beckons just beyond the arch. Art lovers would likely enjoy a stop at the Real Academia de Bellas Artes, just beyond Puerto del Sol. The museum offers a collection of 15th- through 20th-century paintings, including works by Goya, Tintoretto and Rubens.
