If you travel to Madrid a lot and you like to sample local cuisine and drinks and a true slice of everyday life in Madrid then give a mercado a look.
There are many dotted throughout Madrid from Mercado San Miguel to Vellohermoso to Ildefonso to name a few.But there is one a minutes walk from Lavapiés metro that is well worth visiting and its this one.
Mercado San Fernando has brilliant shops and many bars throughout it's interior and is a joy to visit. We visited here very early in the afternoon and spent a few hours in this superb mercado.
We had many different drinks and plenty of snacks and everything about this excellent mercado was brilliant. This mercado is well worth visiting and was one of the highlights of our trip to Madrid and we will visit again on our next visit to Madrid.(This is my first review of Mercado San Fernando).

Monday-Sunday-11.00-22.00.

Great market, very friendly with fantastic range of produce. Craft stalls, food stalls, bars etc. Much less touristy than San Miguel (less flashy, cheaper and more authentic).

This is a great place to meet people, the food is great and there are places where you can get lots of different craft beers. the prices are far cheaper than the other markets that are for tourists. this is the genuine version. well worth seeking out

We are sick and tired of the tourist trap called Mercado San Miguel. The market Mercado San Fernando has it all. Friendly atmosphere. Nice eateries. Fine drinking places. Everything just calls for coming back and back ... so we will :-)

Located in the very buzzy Embajadores, recently named “the coolest neighbourhood in the world” by a global Time Out Poll and smack bang in the middle of trendy Lavapiés is The Mercado San Fernando, and in the heart of this is the bar “Bond 40”that sizzles and buzzes along with the freshest and tastiest of food seamlessly flying out of the kitchen. Couple this with the market atmosphere, the gregariousness of the customers, the delicious wine, spirits and beers and there you have Bond 40.
I thoroughly recommend for anybody seeking the originality of the freshly blossoming Madrid social life.
Great food, great service and fun and fantastic atmosphere: don’t miss it !
Get it while it’s Hot !

Love this place! My partner is spanish and we always go here when we are at home. There are never many tourists there and the food and beverages are delicious. The surrounding neighbourhood is also great to explore after you have filled yourself up.

Mercado San Fernando is a great supermarket we visited on our resent holiday to Madrid were we had a grand time.
On any holiday I take I detest the thought of shopping ,I hate the hassle but this market offers something that i really enjoy namely craft beer and the place to get it is in La Buena Pinta ( The Good Pint ) this is a superb bottle shop/ bar that offers some of the best craft beers that are to be found in this magnificent city both in bottles and on draught and it's located in this supermarket.
There area lots of little bars and eating establishments in here which we also visited .
We really enjoyed our visit to here ,we sampled some great beers and had a marvellous time.
Mercado San Fernando is really easy to locate ,we jumped the metro down to stop Embajadores were you walk down Calle De Embajadores were you will easily find this supermarket.
Well worth checking out.

I found the Mercado San Fernando to be my most fun spot during 3 months in Madrid. Unlike the very nice/fun Mercado San Miguel, San Fernando was full of 20-50 year old LOCALS having BIG TIME FUN. Pretty good tapas, VERY GOOD Spanish-brewed beer (incl IPA), and did I say, HAVING FUN.

There are few restaurants in this market (both local and Asian). Some tapas bars and even a Japanese restaurant is seen operating there. However, there is an unpleasant smell in the market causing us to leave the market after 10 minutes of being there.

This is pretty far from Mercado de San Miguel, very few tourists, much lower prices and a greater mix of food and drinks. There’s a “square” in the middle and people just sit on the floor eating and drinking when it’s really busy. This is our local Mercado so we go there a lot. Great option if it’s too warm/cold/rainy/sunny/windy outside!
