If you have set out on Madrid for art, then make sure not to miss this place. An old tobacco factory, now operating as the most imposing art space in the city! Was lucky enough to see two great exhibitions; "Flowers. Pedro Almodóvar and Jorge Galindo" and "Canciones para una revolución". Even its exterior is covered with art! Really thankful I had a chance to visit!

It's a genius idea to take over an abandoned tobacco factory and turn it into a place of are and creation! When we where there it opened at 18:00, it's recommended to check in advance since the opening hours are not updated online (first we arrived at noon and it was closed so we had to return again later). It's so much fun to walk around, see the graffiti and street art! Beautiful and unusual place.. highly recommended

A vast soulless place in its time, I bet. Large enough to have housed thousands of workers. Perhaps in the heat of summer the windowless rooms would have been cool rather than cold.

The first time I visited it I thought it was infamous, but I've given it another chance and it seems even worse. Huge, semi-abandoned building with structural problems that make it inaccessible in many areas, especially on the upper floors. Obviously, giving it a real and valid use must cost a lot, I don't know what its value is to keep it standing, not all buildings have to be maintained, for the "use" that is given to this one, which is none, it is better to throw it away. What is exposed from time to time has zero value, to put it mildly.

The Tabacalera cultural center was the great surprise of our visit to Madrid. My wife and I thought the place might be an interesting contrast to the world-class traditional art galleries of the city, but we didn't expect to be completely fascinated by the exhibition of Francisco Leiro's sculptures, a show that still has a month to run as I write this review. And admission was free! Drop by to see what is in the principal gallery and what other projects are available to view in this place of diverse artistic activity. The building itself, an old tobacco factory, is an unusual, remarkable venue: it's off the beaten tourist path, in Lavapies, and all the more interesting for that.

Fun place to explore and check out some amazing graffiti and contemporary art. The hours don't always match what it says on the website, so it's good to check ahead. I went on a Sunday night and there was a DJ, a band, and some people playing guitar outside--lots going on, and it definitely isn't touristy.

I imagine this place is very dependent on two things - what's on at the time you visit and what kind of person you are.

Being from London, this place reminds me of the entrance to th vaults, Waterloo, with its ever chaging walls of graffiti art. This is cool to walk through and look at and see all the small rooms off the corridor filled with different groups practicing music and theatre.

The main room when we went was full of some weird tribal dance and drum banging.

Then there was reggae, jazz, a theatre group practicing in the hall and some classic Spanish music.

The lrss a strong smell of drugs, and a lot of heavy drinking, not with it people stumbling around which may put you off.

For me it was cool, but areas didn't feel safe to hang about in and the smell put me off

Coolest neighboorhood in Madrid. So much to see here, especially if you love street art. Lots of culture and cool places to grab a coffee.

Very interesting place full of arts, music and funky vibes. There was a stage with live music in the main building. You could get cheap beer too. We stumbled upon a reggae room as well which was great. There is street art everywhere and the atmosphere is great. Wish the toilets had soap but at least there are toilets ;)

If you are looking for a place to visit off the beaten path, then is somewhere you must visit. In the basement of an old tobacco factory / warehouse is the most amazing local street art. I ventured there by myself and it was a little creepy because the corridors are dimly lit and there was no other visitors. However, tucked away in some rooms of this basement were a couple of bands practicing their music, so I knew that there were people around. The walls are decorated with some of the finest street art / graffiti in Madrid. Go with a group of friends, it'll be a memorable experience.
