We toured the Prado in 2017 with Almudena Cros and we were so impressed with her knowledge and style that we asked for a follow-up tour of the Prado in 2025. This is such a vast museum that two tours barely scratch the surface, and Almu knows so much about the art here that she can provide great enrichment to your visit – no matter how many times you come to Madrid! And she brings with her a laptop on which she calls up historical data and works from other museums that will amplify your understanding of what you’re seeing in the Prado. The Prado is home to many iconic paintings, and Almu will show them to you, of course – Bosch’s Garden of Earthly Delights, Velazquez’s Las Meninas, masterful pieces by Goya, and lots more. But Almu will guide you to less famous pieces you really need to see - Caravaggio’s David with the Head of Goliath, Rubens’s The Rape of Hippodamia, the jeweled and gold “household objects” in the Treasure of the Dauphin de France, and the alternate version of the Mona Lisa, by Leonardo da Vinci or his assistants, where you can look as long as you like without fighting the crowds at the Louvre. Definitely tell her your special interests, so that she can show you things you’ll particularly like. (When we told her we are admirers of pietra dura, she took us to some of the most spectacular examples of the craft we’ve ever seen.) Almu has personal insight and expert commentary about every work you see. She is an enthusiastic appreciator of art, and her excitement is infectious. You’ll come away from her tour with a great feeling of enrichment.

Dr. Almudena Cros deserves more than 5 stars! She is outstanding! We booked Across Madrid Cultural Tours for the Mueseo Natioanl Del Prado visit. We would have been wandering around with an overwhelmed 4 year old if it wasn't for her.
Almudena captivated the interest of our very young child Anna in a place where sheer volume of art might otherwise overwhelm her, she made the experience enjoyable for all and made sure Anna's young mind remained engaged throughout (almost 3 hours!) She was so knowledgeable, so personable and we really enjoyed learning from her!Anna is still raving about the visit and recalls her favourite paintings and the stories behind each work!
We will definitely seek her out again on our next trip to Madrid!!
***** highly recommend!

We highly recommend Almudena's Spanish Civil War talk. She is hugely knowledgeable, energetic and passionate about her topic and used carefully thought out resources to support her well-planned itinerary.

The topic is largely 'hidden from history' yet it so important to understanding Spanish society, culture and politics.

Almudena's insights were based on her extensive research and provided hitherto unknown information about the history of this amazing city and its people. We thoroughly recommend it to others.

Prof. Almu is both extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the art and history of the Prado. We enjoyed our tour and I recommend a private tour with Prof. Almu because she makes it a story and gives interesting facts you just would not get on your own. I think we appreciated and got more out of the experience of the Prado.

This was one of my favorite experiences in Spain. Almu was soooo flexible with 4 adults and a 3.5 year old. She had a cute scavenger hunt for our toddler and my son still talks about it! We loved that while some of the places we saw were top tourist spots, she showed us so much off the beaten path. She also pivoted so well when it started down pouring and we got to experience a very unique museum!

I undertook the 'Madrid in the Spanish Civil War' tour developed and run by Dr Almudena Cros.

It was a fantastic experience. As an academically trained historian Almudena knows the power of good research. She is also a skilled communicator, bringing to life stories of the impact of the War on Madrid.

I would reccomended this tour without reservation to anyone who wants to get a deeper understanding of the impact of Spain's past, today. It was three hours well spent!

Almudena was easily the best tour guide that we have used for a museum tour ... ever. She was engaging, informative and passionate about the art and history and mythology that she shared with us over a three-hour tour that flew by way too fast.

If you have the opportunity to use her, you should 100% do it. We will recommend her to anyone we know touring the Prado in the future. We feel like we have made a new friend!

Almu gave us an amazing tour of the Prado. It enhanced our appreciation of the works of art tremendously. But more than that, she gave us a new approach for thinking and studying art that we carried with us throughout our visit in Spain. We highly recommend Almu for anyone visiting the Prado or wanting to understand the critical nuances of art and art history.

Having been on the Across Madrid Cultural Tours brilliant walking tour of Spanish Civil War sites with Almudena a few years ago, my wife and I were returning to Madrid and wanted to visit the Prado Museum, so what better way than to ask Almudena to be our guide.
On our travels we visit many museums, galleries, churches etc. so look at many paintings without always fully understanding the symbolism of what the artist has painted. In our 3 hour tour Almudena showed us the key exhibits of the Prado (as well as a few of her personal favourites) and gave us insights into what story the picture was telling as well as placing it into its historical context - all in a friendly, easy to understand and enjoyable way. The 3 hours seemed to pass incredibly quickly. Thank you Almu, your tour was the highlight of our holiday.
Thoroughly recommend this tour to all.

Our visit to the Prado with Dr. Almu was a real high point of our trip to Spain. My kids are 17, 14 and 8 and all three of them were so deeply engaged with her tour of the museum and still talk about what they enjoyed and found intriguing. Her tour went above and beyond my expectations, which were to touch on some of the key art works at the museum and give some background. She did that of course, but also delved into details, common themes, history and contextual elements that brought everything we looked at to life. In addition to her very capable tour, she is also a wonderful person and was very kind to us. Highly recommend!
