This was the highlight of our trip to Madrid and I highly recommend for families with kids who want to introduce them to the wonders of the Prado. We are a family of four, with two children ages 12 and 7. Almu was a pro at engaging the kids for 2.5 hours--they were mesmerized and never once complained about being tired! I was amazed that my 7 year-old daughter, in particular, learned so much about Spanish history and culture that she recognized symbols and religious stories in other sites across Spain. This is absolutely worth every penny for families who want a fun and educational experience at the Prado.

My 17-year-old daughter and I did a private tour Madrid and the Spanish Civil War and we were enthralled. We learned so much and had a wonderful, personal experience. Almu took time to get to know our backgrounds and interests and made the tour exceptionally personal for us. Her passion to respectfully and accurately advance the narrative of Madrid during the Spanish Civil War is relevant and important today. I spent days inspired by what I learned and read up on the International Brigade. She followed up with resources to learn even more. I highly recommend this specific tour but know that any tour that Almu does will be fantastically curated.

My wife and I were fortunate to spend an afternoon and early evening with Almu, first visiting the Prado Museum, followed by a tapas tour. Touring with Almu, especially when she's discussing art, culture and history, one cannot help but appreciate the knowledge, passion and exuberance she exhibits. Almu was able to provide clear and helpful insight into the artists' background, as well as the meaning and significance of their paintings. Before, during and after our tour Almu provided us with recommendations for additional touring and additional information regarding what we had seen at the Prado. She made our time with her - which was all too brief - informative, enjoyable and memorable. We highly recommend Almu to anyone interested in learning more about Spain.

The Spanish Civil War history tour of Madrid is fantastic and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking to learn about Madrid during that period, no matter what level of existing knowledge you already have. I had done some wider reading some months beforehand but was still blown away by Almu's expert knowledge and by how much her tour really brought the history to life.

Seeing first hand where the International Brigades fought during the Battle for Madrid (the scars of war still showing on the buildings) could have easily been enough of a tour in itself, but it covered much more than that. I very much enjoyed learning about the wider social history leading up to the civil war and what the city was like during that period through Almu's impressive collection of photographs and personal stories from those who were there.

I was also really grateful for how accommodating Almu was, especially as it was awful weather in Madrid that day and I had only got in touch to arrange a tour a couple of days previously. Her passion for the history is infectious and was for me what made the tour not only quite powerful but also enjoyable and actually quite motivating. I came away wanting to learn much more and Almu was keen to point me in the right direction for further reading.

Could not recommend this tour enough.

Almudena's tour of the Prado with our two children (ages 9 and 8) was hands down the BEST money we spent while in Spain. Equipped with a booklet for their scavenger hunt, our kids were immediately engaged. Even after leaving Madrid for Sevilla and Barcelona, our kids still remembered details about las Meninas, Goya's the 3rd of May 1808, and the use of color to evoke certain emotions. They were talking about it over tapas the entire trip! Almu was personable, extremely knowledgeable, and made our visit of the Prado a breeze! I've never hired a guide for a museum visit, but if I could take Almu with us back to the Louvre when we lived in Paris, I would! Muchas gracias, Almu! We hope our paths will cross again for a tour in the future!

Almu’s Across Madrid Prado for Children tour was a wonderful, fun, educational, and engaging experience. We took this tour as a family of four with our nine-year-old twin boys who were very tired from our travels, and she managed to keep them engaged and enthusiastic the entire time. We were all captivated throughout the tour. I minored in art history, and my husband and I teach university students about gender inequality issues, so we were especially appreciative that she was able not only to entertain our family, but educate us all about masterpieces and the complex historical contexts in which they were created. She also very thoughtfully worked hard to fit our tour into her schedule despite my husband’s last-minute decision making and our brief time back in Madrid when we were traveling in between cities. Almu is a thoughtful, highly educated, fun, exceptional tour guide whom we highly recommend! We hope to return to Madrid and take more tours with her soon.

Almu is are a rare gem of Madrid! An art history professor, fluent in Spanish and English (even taught our kids some Spanish words!) and a person who loves children, she tailored this tour from the start (with a pre-tour questionnaire). On arrival she greeted us warmly then sent our children 5,5 and 8 on a guided scavenger hunt through the museum. Some of the finest hours of our time in Spain! In all my years I too have never been able to get so interested in all the fine details and stories and relevance to history of the older paintings — they came alive! My youngest almost started crying when it was over … after 2 hours of touring, mesmerized … she just wanted more! And she even sent us follow up links to everything we asked about after! Wish we could take her with us on the rest of our trip!

We took the Madrid in the Spanish Civil War Tour earlier this year and it was very interesting.
Dr. Almudena is extremely knowledgeable and passionate on the subject and delivers an amazing tour which lasted beyond the set time, taking in various sites in the city complete with period illustrations to further explain the history.
If like me you did not know much about the Spanish Civil War than this tour will be a great source of information and enjoyment, highly recommended.

We had an amazing and very educational
Tour of the Prado with Dr. Almudena. Both adults and teens alike found it very engaging. We learned so much in a short time. This is the only way to tour the Prado! Dr Almudena is extremely knowledgeable and navigates the museum as if her own home. She did a great job of selecting the pieces to show us, engaging my daughters, and giving us such great information about each painting. What we learned at the Prado we will take with us as we continue to visit art museums. Overall truly wonderful experience!

Almudena understands how to keep her audience engaged. This makes her tours memorable and fun. Almu's breadth of knowledge and passion for touring continue to impress us. For our stay in Madrid this year, we asked her to lead two tours, one to the Museo Arqueologico Nacional (MAN) and another to the Prado. (We remembered Almu from her Spanish Civil War tour several years ago.) Friends of ours with a background in archaeology accompanied us on the MAN tour; they were as impressed as we were. Almu covered an amazing amount of ground (both historically and literally), making stops at pieces in the collection that we might have otherwise passed by. She brings with her additional literature, maps, and photos which provide important context. Almu was flexible in her touring, allowing for stops based on our interests.

For the Prado tour, we asked Almu to focus on parts of the collection that we were less familiar with. Once again, her expansive art history knowledge allowed her to customize a tour for us with stops at works that were unfamiliar to our less practiced eyes. She placed the works in the historical context of the collection beginning with Phillip II. Almu helped us look closely at details we would have otherwise missed, and we enjoyed her personal insight, interpretation, and humor.
