Like another place just around the corner, Magasand, Il Tavolo Verde is a good place for a value for money breakfast and a great starting point for a walk through Parque de Il Retiro, the bookstalls of Calle Claudio Moyano, Museo Reina Sofia and the Prado Museo. They serve a variety of juices, teas, yoghurts and organic homemade breads and cakes. I especially liked the toasted homemade bread and jam. You get to enjoy your breakfast among antiques, furniture and various bric-a-brac. Staff is very friendly. Il Tavolo Verde is very nearby Puerta de Alcala.
