The area
Address
Neighborhood: Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.

Extensive choice of espadrilles!
Aug 2020
Avoid peak hours if you don't want to stand in the queue for 30min +, for us this was no problem as we hadn't decided on which pairs of espadrilles to buy yet. Once inside, you should already have an idea of what products you want and let the staff know straight away. Extensive selection of espadrilles (flat, heels etc), for men, women and children, at a very affordable price. Espadrilles are authentic although not the most comfortable on the market.

Overall a great experience, an obligatory stop for anyone who visits Madrid!

Awful service!! Rude staff!

If you want to experience the worst quality in customer service go to Casa Hernanz. I go to Madrid often and I’ll never go back to buy espadrilles there...even if their shoes are a bit cheaper than in other places. Being mistreated isn’t worth it!

Great shop!
Oct 2019
We visited based on all the positive reviews here...lucky for us there were no lines...we waited less than 5 minutes to be helped. Agree with other reviewers that it’s best to look in the shop windows and take pictures of which espadrilles you want to try... makes it much easier. Came home with a cute pair!

The place in Madrid to buy the best espadrilles!!
Sep 2018
Fabulous prices for these handmade traditional espadrilles! What a selection. Follow the advice of those that offered a review before: take photos of the style and color you want and convert your size to European footwear sizes!!

My other advice: avoid summer travel - FOR GOD SAKE!! or go early in the morning as soon as the shop opens and watch out for siesta closures!

Authentic Espadrilles
Jul 2019
We lined up 20 min before the store opened & waited about half hour to get in. We knew to take photos of the window display of shoes we were interested in, which expedited the process once we were waited on. The staff was helpful with sizing and patient with us while we made our selections.
Great souvenir from Madrid!

Loved this.. got leather sandals and as many espadrilles as I could carry.. inexpensive.. the most darling shop w straw bags , placemats, bottle covers , rope..charm ..yes line and people working must be tired. I speak the language and was surrounded by locals from
Barcelona or Madrid but many tourists I could hear in line..there are several other shops in the area but only this one and 1 other very close by are authentic w so many colors and knowledgeable staff. I just hope my carry on isn’t overweight w all these shoes :) looking around at all the crap souvenirs one can buy..I got some darling summer shoes for weary feet that have walked all over hot Spain! Without breaking the bank Yay me and my sisters and nieces too .love plaza mayor and this shop was historic and darling . Now it’s going to be the thing I do when in Madrid . Thank you so much ..my shoes are fab . If I lived here I would buy All the straw offerings too .loved them

Cute but nothing great
May 2019 • Couples
Take a picture of the shoe and color you want while waiting. Waited 40 minutes to order/try some one and only ended up getting one pair - not even for me. The typical ones you see in all of the photos are cute and light but not for someone with a small foot. My foot was too thin for the shoes and didn't look right so I couldn't purchase any

since store attendants speak little english, take a picture of the shoe you want with your shoe size to show. this will hasten the process of ordering. went to the store last monday around 5 pm & took an hour before i was attended to. hope my shoes will be worth it!

Waited 2 hours and they didn’t open even though their crappy web site said they would be open. Guy in line next to me said he was there to return the poor quality shoes he bought 2 months ago. They “came apart”!!
No wonder they sell their stuff so cheap. Don’t waste your time or money on this. It’s a tourist trap!
