Up until my visit this evening, this has been one of my favorite bars in town, not for the service, but because It's one of a very few places that produces consistently well-balanced cocktails that satisfy a variety of palates at a fair price.

However.. As has been mentioned recently by a number of patrons here on Trip Advisor, the service can be embarrassingly thoughtless and cold. I walked in this evening to a decent crowd at around 11pm. The bar was more or less full with one seat between two couples who were enjoying cocktails and having private conversation, an empty table with 4 chairs (with a reservation sign on it) by the window, and two empty stools at the far left hand wall also by the window. As I did not want to squeeze between the two couples at the bar and make them all uncomfortable (and feel uncomfortable myself), I felt it was the correct move to request one of the empty seats against the wall. I moved towards the seats and the bar staff said I could not sit there. I asked politely if I may sit in one of the empty seats against the wall (not part of the reserved high table of four) and they said they could not allow it. I am standing in the middle of the bar at this point feeling a bit humiliated and annoyed while at the same time ready to spend some good money on a number of well-made cocktails. I'm thinking, I can go home and make myself as good of a drink, but similar to having your beard shaved in a barber shop, sometimes one just wants someone else to do the work and feel a bit pampered.
Although you may ultimately have a well-made cocktail presented to you at this bar, I can assure you that you will not be feeling taken care of well. This sentiment I have had each time I've come to this bar, although I've somewhat gave them a pass as there are so few bars in town that take the craft seriously. Tonight broke my back, though, and as there are several other bars that make excellent drinks at a similar price point (Savas Bar, Santamaria Cocteleria, Vive Madrid, Salmon Guru of course, The Dash, etc), I see no reason to return or to recommend others to return.
As I walked out of the bar, I put one middle finger up behind me and the staff wished me a pleasant evening by calling my mother a whore. Keep up the good work, kids.

Hand crafted cocktails with fresh fruit! Perfect place to stop in! Angel was our host and the other staff member recommended another rooftop bar for me to visit next. Great place!

Great service, interesting selections. A great time.
We had a couple of drinks each, and the waiters tried to hit the spot on what we wanted, with mostly success.
Just note - no food is served (but it’s still fun)

When we arrived, it was busy upstairs, but the man who greeted us was really friendly and still gave us the option to sit upstairs or downstairs which we didn't realize they had. The downstairs was really cozy and a lot quieter which was nice.

The server spoke English well and explained the menu in depth to us. I really like that they have a special weekly menu with part of the proceeds being donated. We each got two cocktails, and I made sure one of them was from that menu. My boyfriend also discovered his love for the paper plane at 1862.

do not reccomend. the service was horrible, the staff were so disrespectful it made me and my partner feel uncomfortable, after we ordered we had to wait about 1hr 30mins for the food to arrive which wassnt even good. At the end when we asked for the check we wated 15 minutes for that alone. Rhe staff got no tip after all.

Very chill vibe and the cocktail menu was very strong. It was definitely the best cocktail bar which was still a bar, that we visited in Madrid. No themes, no nonsense - good quality drinks, good service, friendly staff. Recommended.

One of the coolest and most understated places on the planet. Great, low key drinks that are well made and well mixed using great ingredients in a friendly and inviting setting. The owner was friendly, humble and happy to advise cocktail options based on our tastes.

Bar staff were all quick and attentive and the drinks were delicious.

What a great find around corner from our accommodation. Cocktails were fab. My fave was the Mad Hatter. Roberto really looked us after so well and gave us a list of recommendations for other bars and restaurants. Took our daughter there and she didn't know what to order - Roberto just asked her what she liked and had a cocktail specially made for her. Had cocktails here 4 out of our 5 nights in Madrid. Staff all very friendly and there is a lovely vibe in the area. Will be back in a few months and will be one of our first stops.

Great selection of cocktails

Sometimes you wanna go where everybody knows your predilections for bourbon and rye whiskey before they really know your name. Where respect and homage is paid to the foundation of classic cocktail culture. Where bartenders take pride in their craft. Where you can sit at a gorgeous bar, in a gorgeous building, and enjoy a fabulous cocktail without pretense (my least favorite part of modern American cocktail culture) or paying an astronomical price (all cocktails are 8 euros) all with your dog sitting in the chair next to you (plus!). Given my preference for whiskey, I never did get around to drinking the entire menu. But I did get to drink lots of off menu drinks, classic drinks I've never heard of, but dream to drink again, courtesy of Alberto, the awesome and well versed in cocktails bar owner. Eventually he and the other bartenders learned my name, my drink order(s), the names of my friends, my friends' friends, my sisters, etc.--drinking is a social affair as far as I'm concerned.

My poisons of choice:
Manhattan
Old Fashioned
Rickshaw
Derby
Stinger (handle with care)
Gimlet
Diosa del humo
French 75
Mint Julep
Cafe Viejo Colonial

Weeknights: pull up a chair upstairs at the bar or a table.
Weekends: bring friend or a date and head downstairs to lounge on the plush couch.
Chat with your barman.

Do yourself a favor and stroll into this wonderful bar that I had the privilege of calling my watering hole for my glorious year in Madrid. Cocktail bars aren't too hard to come by in Madrid, but this place is special, and home is indeed where this bar is.

On a short trip to Madrid with friends found ourselves making a stop here every night. The drinks are seriously quality. The bartenders know what they’re doing! They have a good selection on the menu. Tried a few of the drinks and nothing disappointed. I will say if you like White Russians, you gotta have one there. Absolutely delicious. The place is small but the ambiance was great. Highly recommend!
