Very nice traditional market with food-stalls and restaurants. It is situated in barrio Salamanca, one of the richest neighbourhoods in Madrid, and therefore everything is so neat and tidy that it almost doesn't feel like a real market. But the stalls and restaurants are fine and the products the sell as well.

A few metro stops from the city center in the Salamanca district is this unique and not so commercial market with a couple of small bars and fruit and vegetable shops. Excellent recommendation to get away from commercial places with so many tourists!

Mercado de la Paz is situated close to Serrano metro station.
It is a lot less touristy that Mercado San Miguel but nevertheless has a wide range of good food and drink outlets, as well as stalls geared more for locals.
Plenty of meat (especially ham), fish, cheese, fruit and vegetables plus domestic goods also on sale.
I had coffee here, beer and tapas, and some caviar with wine during our lengthy stay here.
I found the drinks very reasonably priced here.

Mercado de La Paz is a beautiful market, for its displays and food offerings. Many a review have attested to that.
The pleasant surprise is the Portuguese shop, Maninha Sardinha, which sells Portuguese wine, canned fish, coffee (also from Timor), and perhaps one its most iconic treats, pasteis de nata. Having been to Portugal prior to visiting Spain I was so pleased to see a shop offer pasteis de nata. Even more so, when I sampled one (with port wine which is their creation), so crispy its crust and so flavorful its content.
I also tried the chicken rice with raisin dish, a specialty of Maria mom’s cooking. Maria runs the shop and has an interesting family history. All dishes were wonderfully enjoyable.
For sure, when in Madrid next I will stop by this local market and indulge in Portuguese products from Maninha Sardinha. IMO Portuguese food is underrated compared to better known ones from the Continent!

Mercado San Miguel gets all the glory, but this Market is the hidden gem. Great place to eat for waaaaay cheaper. Casa de dani serves the best tortilla de patata. There is a line to get in but worth the wait. Everyone is eating g this dish. They have 2 locations, 1 inside and 1 outside. This Market has great pastries as well and my ultimate favorite is the Portuguese Market that serves pastel de nata

Always crowded and noisy in the three areas where you can have the best tortilla in Madrid, Casa Dani. Go early to get a place outside.

I visited three Mercados while in Madrid. Seems the market/food hall combination is the thing. This one had a more traditional/local flavor to it when compared to Mercado de San Miguel. A bit more open spaces and not as crowded although there were some congested spots (at least when I visited on a Friday around 2)
You have a few choices for shopping/eating: grocery store, a couple of choices for ham/cheese/deli, fish monger, butcher, Pasta, pizza, French, dessert, and of course Tapas. They even had a shoe repair stand which looked like it had been there forever.
Again. a few choices to pick from for food. It started to get busy in all the spots and somehow I decided to try a small pizza spot-Il Forneo Di Matteo. By the time I got to the counter they had run out of most of the varieties. But not to worry they brought more out pretty quickly. I got a slice of the Anchovy/ Bufala mozzarella. Amazing! Who would have thought I’d have one of the best slices of pizza in Madrid. Such a light crust and the cheese and salty anchovies combined perfectly. Not cheap at 5 euros per slice but so worth it. A lady bought a couple of huge sheets of their crust so gives an indication. Must try!
Overall, worth the visit when in the Barrio de Salmanaca area.

This market is where the locals of the Salamanca district come to shop for wonderful foods, There are all sorts of meats, fish, fruits and vegetables, and cheeses that are sold here. You can also buy tapas and the like for a wonderful and tasty lunch. I believe the market has been in operation for well over 100 years. If you are in the neighborhood, then this market is a do not miss site to visit.

Not touristy at all. What you get is a local market, pretty simple considering that it is placed its posh location. Full of people buying vegetables, fish, etc. In between those, you do have some nice food places selling delicacies of every kind. Just grab a stool and enjoy! Don't miss it.
