A quiet place to refresh your spirit
Dec 2019
We were on our way to the Plaza Mayor, when we saw this church. An open church is always an invitation to see something new and often quite beautiful. It is also a place to sit quietly and reflect. This lovely church was the right place at the right time.

Relics of the Holy Cross! Many People on Wednesdays!
May 2019 • Solo
This is a really nice church in downtown Madrid, close to Plaza El Sol.
They have a relic of the Holy Cross in the main altar. It has also an image of Jude Thaddeus. I went to mass on Wednesday morning, and it was full of people waiting to venerate the saint. It was really impressive!
Daily mass is at 9.00 a.m.

Quick visit
Feb 2019 • Solo
If you have seen a 1000 churches then there is nothing “new” to see here but it is a nice church. While I was visiting there was plenty of Spanish people queuing in front of one of the “chapels” (first one to the right) to say there prayers but except for me being a tourist it was just some other people quietly going about with their prayers.

Lovely church just off Plaza Mayor
Sep 2018
Check out when this church is open and take a few moments before hanging out in Plaza Mayor and points beyond to go inside. It was the first church I visited in Spain and very close to where we were staying so maybe I feel a special bond with it, but it is a very beautiful church in neo-Gothic style with a neomudéjar facade and tower, so it has something of a unique look. There are many side chapels and many "virgens" the significance of all them escaping me. But each one is unique and has her own special quality. Definitely worth stopping in. No fee.

Another beautiful church.
May 2018 • Friends
Iglesia De Santa Cruz is yet another beautiful church in this magnificent city.
We were wandering around the area around Plaza Mayor and down a few streets away from the square we chanced on this beautiful church.
The lovely red brick facade looks superb,it really is a great example of Neo Gothic architecture and the stunning bell tower makes for some great photographic opportunities.
The interior is also really pleasing on the eye ,not as grand as some other churches we visited but very opulent indeed.
We really enjoyed our visit to here before moving on to investigate some of the other great buildings in this area.
Iglesia De Santa Cruz is easy to locate Calle Atocha and is well worth checking out.

Catholic Church in central Madrid
Apr 2018 • Couples
Almost at the corner of the "Plaza de Santa Cruz", in central Madrid, is located this beautiful church, example of the Spanish architecture from the end of the XIX century. It is located in "Calle Atocha" 6, also close to the "Plaza Major" and the "Palácio de Santa Cruz". The nice red brick building has a marble portal with very nice sculptures and to be precise its considered to be done in neo-mudéjar architectural style (neo-arabic).

The architect responsible was Francisco de Cubas and the construction was done from 1889 to 1902.

It's a nice combined walk with the "Plaza de Santa Cruz" and "Plaza Major"

Just worth a little glance
Sep 2017 • Solo
It looks much better from exterior but considering that is central located and close to other nice attractions is worth taking a anew minutes to check it out. This is what I did.
It is beautiful from the curb, dont expect much inside.

worth a look
Jan 2015 • Couples
by average I mean it's still great and is worth a peak. We never pass up an unlocked church in Europe. The church had money and usually didn't spare it when building.
This church as a large gold veneered altar which made it tough to get a good photo.
I thought the white tile (or were they brick?) work was odd. Almost like a gymnasium. Still an attractive church.
