This is a small church dedicated to Saint Nicholas of Bari. It has a striking brick tower, decorated with horseshoe arches. The main altar has an image of Mary of the Sorrows, on the left the chapel of Saint Nicholas.

Beautiful old church in Madrid. It is one of the oldest parishes in Madrid, its construction dates back to the 12th century. Its belfry is in the Mudejar style. The church has undergone many renovations in its history. Its main entrance has an 18th-century portal with the image of St. Nicholas. Inside, you can see a beautiful 15th-century wooden ceiling.

It was great to visit the oldest church in Madrid. The bell tower is outstanding and constitutes the most ancient part. Extensive impressive brickwork dominates the building. The decorative pattered doorway is beautiful. Moving indoors reveals an interior that is quite attractive.

While not overly extensive, the nave bordered by fine columns and arches is striking. An illuminated statue dominates the altar area. The ceiling is wonderful with its highly admired design.

It was a bit hard to find. We persevered. I thought church opened at 6.30pm; decided to ring bell in the back just to check. I was told they open at 7pm.

True, it is not very grand. We tried to translate what little texts are on the wall. I think it was a mosque before it became a church and in its crypt were buried important persons but were not open to the public.

Mary's 7 sufferings hence the 7 swords on her chest. http://www.themostholyrosary.com/appendix1.htm

Church Of St Nicholas Of The Servitas ( Iglesia San Nicolas De Las Servitas ) is a beautiful old church located in the beautiful plaza, Plaza De San Nicolas, the tower dates from the 12th century and the main church dates from the 15th century, its mismatched rather plain looking brick exterior is testament to the construction that has gone on to this church since the 12th century, it's a stunning looking evocative church, well worth checking out if your in the area.
Easy to locate on Plaza De San Nicolas.

In a city with so many churches The Church Of St Nicholas Of The Servitas ( Iglesia De San Nicolas De Servitas ) may not be the most beautiful of churches but this splendid looking 15th century church is one of the oldest .
It's huge rather bland brick facade is testament to the rebuilding that has gone into this church over the years but the beautiful tower which looks very evocative is most definitely well worth a look.
On our visit the church could not be entered but it was nice just taking in the unique architecture of this historically important church.
Easy to locate on Plaza San Nicolas and most definitely well worth checking out if your in the area.

This is a charming XVth Century Church located in a small street very near the Cathedral and the San Miguel Market. Small and cosy it is refreshing to attend Mass there as it is more intimate. It is also the Church for the Italian community of Madrid, so some services are held in italian.
Beautiful XIIth century tower and an interesting baroque image of St. Nicholas

Church of St. Nicholas of the Servitas (San Nicolas de las Servitas) is situated in the plaza of the same name and is a charming old church. The architecture of the exterior is rather confusing with its large square brick facade such that it is impossible to get a good look at the impressive tower on the top. Interior is plain with a few paintings on the wall and a small attractive alterpiece.

A very quaint, historic church. Sadly, it is not open to the public, so unless you happen to be there for mass, all you can see is the outside.
