A little known fact: beautiful frescoes by Goya in this small church not too far from Plaza España - a real joy and treasure!

We had been looking forward to seeing the Goya frescos all week. Sadly, we never got to see them as, after a half hour walk from the city centre we arrived to be told it has just closed. The time was 7.20. Tourist information (and webs ite) say 8pm. Massively disappointed.

We walked a long time and thought it was closed, but were blessed that we had some minutes to be able to see one of the Parroquias. We were able to admire all the Goya frescos and visit his tomb. We were greeted by Rosa, one of the staff there and she was extremely nice. She gave us some information... More

If you're an art historian, then this chapel is for you! Goya's work takes over the ceiling of this little church and the work is as emotional and powerful as his other, more serious works. Lots of playful details! Plenty of colour! And the gardens outside are nice for a rest after, with bonus lovebird nesting action.

The small and unassuming building built in the 18th century is home to some amazing paintings which have to be see to be believed. The chapel was declared a national monument in 1905, you can see first hand the fresco decoration carried out by Francisco de Goya in the final year of its construction ,since 1919 the remains of Goya... Even though this was a church, it's no longer used as a church, and it is CLOSED on Mondays. So I went twice. Very glad I did! One thing people have not mentioned, I think, is how very different these light, beautiful angels and putti are from Goya's famous "Black Paintings," which you can see in the Prado. These are... Beautiful paintings by Goya in this small church. He is also buried here minus his head but that adds to the interest of the place

What an opportunity - to see sublime Goya frescoes for free. The frescoes have been restored and the colours are more restrained than normal in some ways, making these memorable. This is also Goya's final resting place (minus his head apparently).

what a surprise to visit this place, though off the beaten track. Goya's frescos and the setting are unique. Be sure to combine this with the Temple of Debud by taxi - its a long walk!
