Exceptional experience with Madrid Cool & Cultural. Gemma was engaging, enthusiastic and full of valuable information, rich history, and things to do. Highly recommend booking. We did two tours, the Essential Madrid and the Traditional Taverns Gastronomic tour. Both did not disappoint. Gemma knows her history and her love for Madrid and what it has to offer as well as our travels in Spain was priceless! Thank you Gemma

I never write online reviews. But in this case, I felt so strongly about sharing our wonderful experience with MC&C that I had to write one.
My wife and I wanted to visit Madrid for the first time - a short 4 day visit. I spend a lot of time researching before making a decision and this time was no different.
After back and forth communications with Gemma,( and by the way, she never showed any sign of getting tired of my many questions ) she managed to organize the most amazing 4 days of tours and explorations in Madrid and beautiful Toledo
Gemma, who runs this private tour company, is an exceptional person. Not only because of her very friendly personality, but also because of her vast knowledge of everything about Madrid, and of course on Spain. We were eager to absorb as much information as possible during our short visit, about Spain's history, culture, traditions and modern life. Gemma and her staff, managed to fulfill our wishes thru all our senses, and that included our taste buds while sampling every day different Tapas for lunch.
We were fortunate to have as our guide in Madrid, Teresa, that I can describe as a charming walking encyclopedia of art history. Teresa made us look, understand, and appreciate the art works at the Prado, with a wonderful magical lens.
Our visit to Toledo with Gemma and our friendly courteous driver Roberto, was one of the highlights of our trip.
This is a wonderful historical city, and Gemma knew how to bring it to life for us.
Thank you Gemma, Teresa, Roberto and Christian, for making our trip so enjoyable.

Dear Jack. It has been a pleasure for MC & C team to have such interesting couple. People as you make our job so enjoyable ! Remember that we still have to visit the Jewish Quarter of Segovia and enjoy a good Sephardic food. See you soon!

I contacted Madrid Cool and Cultural based on their reviews and I am glad I did. From the get-go, Gemma was clearly someone reliable and knowledgeable. She replied to my emails promptly and with clarity. I was travelling with my sister and a niece, and while it was a first trip to Madrid for my niece, my sister and I have been there before, albeit, over twenty years ago. We also had different interests and level of energy, with my sister wanting to go to Avila, while I wanted either Toledo or Segovia. Quite ambitious I thought as we only had three nights and three full days. Gemma was immediately able to make suggestions that allowed us to do all we wanted wtih enough flexibility.
We decided to do a walking tour of Madrid on our first day and then a tailor made day tour to Avila and Segovia on our last. Gemmas is a splendid private guide. She is an engaging storyteller. She probably does this a lot yet she does not sound scripted. She weaves in important historical facts with modern day events and allowed me and my sister to see Madrid under a new light. I guess being a passionate Madrileña to the bone makes her "in the know", yet having lived abroad makes her culturally sensitive. All the qualities that makes her a perfect guide. We found ourselves sometimes just chatting or having a good laugh about things in general and life in Madrid over a cup of coffee, chocolate con churro (the best in the city), and in the car drive to Avila and Segovia. Like having a friend in tow.
As promptly as she replied to emails and picked us up at our hotel, Gemma dropped us off at Atocha station making sure we knew how to get to our train to Malaga. We bade her goodbye and truly hope to see her again. Perhaps on a return trip to do an Arts and Tapas tour, with a side trip to Toledo along with a wine tour.
If you have any doubts about booking a private guide in Madrid, don't. Just book them. You won't regret it. I have never done a review before, despite travelling almost every month, but thought it important enough to do this.

I worked as a planner for an American couple, who did a tour around Europe, and booked Gemma to be their guide in Madrid. She was very professional from the beginning - quick in responding to my emails and very flexible. The guests couldn't thank me enough for finding her and they are not easy to please. The tour was very informative, yet not boring, and at the end Gemma offered many suggestions for restaurants, shops, and spots that they could visit themselves the next day. Gemma is a true gem!

Gemma was our guide for a full day excursion in and around Madrid and Toledo. We were there with our two young adult children. It was a wonderful day. She was friendly, knowledgable and very accommodating and flexible. She hired a very professional driver for the day and really made the whole experience easy.
Doing an overview tour of Madrid on our first day was the best thing we could have done. Once we got a lay of the land, it was easy for us to focus the balance of our time there visiting the areas we want to spend more time in.
In Toledo, she was like a living encyclopedia. She did not overload us with dates and facts but was able to answer any historical questions we had.
She also arranged for us to have a private tour and tasting at a family owned winery on the outskirts of Toledo.
I would highly recommend her for any couples or families visiting Madrid.

Wow, what to say that hasn't already been said so well about Gemma and Madrid Cool and Cultural? We spent a whirlwind four days in Madrid, and for two and a half of those we had the pleasure to be with Gemma as she introduced us to her Madrid. We found tapas and cañas and chocolate con churros, were immersed in the history and beauty of the city and its people, viewed the masterpieces of the Prado with a true insider and finally, a spent a simply wonderful day in Toledo - and with a stop for a winery tour and tasting along the way!

Being myself a tourguide, I love using private guides when I'm travelling. Even in those cities in my own country where I might already know about the history of the places, because I always get to learn new things.
I was going to Madrid visiting friends, and since they'll be working in the morning I decided to hire Gemma to show me around in a more professional way. She was wonderful!
We first walked around the city center, where appart from telling me the history of the city she also showed me her favorite local cafés, hidden secret gems like the frescos of the meeting room of the Medical Board building, a beautiful stain-glass dome in a hotel...
Next we went to the Prado Museum, where she was able to skip the line. I was blowned away by her commandment of the rooms and alleys of the museum (knows her way around the make the itinerary efficient and interesting), but the best was her knowledge about the paintings, the artists and the Spanish history: trully exceptional. Plus it was never boring: she spiced up her explanations with interesting anecdotes and gossipping about the royal family from ages ago!
To finish the morning, she took me around some of the best 100yo patisseries of Madrid and gave me some great ideas for tapas bars aswell.
The perfect custom itinerary of Madrid for me!
Thank you Gemma for such a wonderful morning!

Our tour Guide, Gemma Garcia, founder or Madrid Cool and Cultural gave us an amazing tour of Madrid. She shares her love of the city with us showing us amazing sites, giving us history of the city and gave us the best restaurants for our time there. Without her we would not have loved Madrid as much as we do now!

Two weeks before we left for Madrid, Inma Sanchez, the guide I had engaged to give us a tour of Toledo's Jewish history, recommended I contact Gemma if I wanted a guide in Madrid who was knowledgeable and good with teenagers. I reached out to Gemma, and I was not disappointed!!! She took us on a four-hour walking tour of Madrid where we saw all kinds of hidden places we never would have found on our own! And since she was unavailable to guide us through the Prado, she arranged for Alicia to take us, and she was wonderful! I found Gemma to be professional, a prompt, organized correspondent, and a pleasure to deal with. As others have noted, she has a deep and passionate love for Madrid which she was thoroughly able to convey! I highly recommend her! And her English is very good.

Gemme,
A group of four adults would like to have a private tour of Madrid on Friday, May 29. Is it possible for you to accommodate us for a six hour tour? We are from Texas (USA) and want a local guide to show us the real city.

Hola!
My husband and I will be in Madrid arriving in the early morning of Sunday, May 17th. We plan on attending the Madrid Atletico v Barcelona game that afternoon (which time is not yet confirmed). But we are interested in a private food and sight seeing tour that could start mid morning on the 17th (we arrive from Mallorca around 830am). We would prefer that the cost of the food is included in the price of the tour.
We plan on taking a day trip to Salamanca on Monday then leave Madrid for Toledo on Tuesday.
Do you have tours in Salamanca?
I see that you do have tours in Toledo that include round-trip train passes. We would be interested in private car ride to Toledo on Tuesday with a guided tour or perhaps simply scheduling a tour in Toledo if we plan on taking the 920am train down (but only one-way as we plan to stay in Toledo Tuesday night).
I look forward to your suggestions, options and pricing, please.
Thank you,
Erin Moran
