Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
How to get there
  • Chueca • 2 min walk
  • Banco de España • 5 min walk

Great little Tapas place to eat. Nice staff, nice people, great food and a very nice selection of spanish wines. I had a bottle of Priorat , some ham , different little serves of veggis and some pipits. Just perfect. Also Iwas travelling alone and just felt well, as sometimes you feel kind of "lonely". The staff was super nice, tables push to talk and meet the neighbor. Also well placed just in the heart of Madrid. I stayed just above at the ME by Melia (super nice hotel)
...infine,,, Bardemcilla is owned by famous actor Baardem (the naughty one in James Bond...;-)

This place in the heart of Madrid is nice. Food is good, service is ok, best of everything is the place itself, the ambient, just because it's so different, very very comfy and sweet, stylish. And you keep the focus on the desserts.

If you're close to Plaza de Santa Ana, take time out to visit the newer location, La Bardemcilla de Santa Ana. Mid priced tasty food (great croquetas), nice wines and great service, always with a smile. Highly recommended.

Yes, fine, didn't feel like a Bardem tourist-trap...
We had lunch there last Thursday, May 20th on a recommendation. We worried it might be one of those places that is relying on its family name alone, lost in stardom and forgetting about its raison d'être. Not so. Our lunch was good, not great, and the service was very nice. We liked the Chueca area it is located in too.
