Top ways to experience Teatro de Madrid and nearby attractions

The area

Neighborhood: Arguelles
Just south of the sprawling campus of the Complutense University of Madrid, Arguelles exudes a fast-paced, collegiate vibe. The main street, Calle Princesa, is filled with twenty-somethings rushing between classes and errands, meeting up with classmates, and grabbing cheap beers and cheap eats. This is a prime shopping spot where the major Spanish clothing and department store chains are less busy than their downtown counterparts, and there is an array of casual dining options to choose from. Check out nearby outdoor spaces such as the lushly planted Plaza de España to the south, which is often filled with craft stalls. To the west of Arguelles is the giant Parque Oueste, a calm and picturesque park with its own Egyptian temple.

We have visited just about every opera house of any renown all over the world, but the best experience we ever had was in Madrid. The opera house is in a perfect location directly across from the Royal Palace and next to a beautiful park. The building itself could not be nicer looking and it looked as if it was recently refurbished and indeed was state of the art inside and out.
The production that we saw was The Marriage of Figaro which was the best we have ever seen.
The lighting, scenery, costumes, music and singing were first class.
It was truly a thrilling experience not to missed by anyone going to Madrid whether you like opera or not!
We had a wonderful walk back to our hotel through the mostly pedestrian streets of that area; no cars, no noise no crowds, walking on the wide streets of this exciting city.
We felt lucky to be alive!!!
