I really didn't have much expectations while planning the trip, until Silvia came from nowhere and flipped the fun side up. Went for a free walking tour, learnt how to do Silvia's version of the Flamingo dance :), met folks from all squares of the world. It was really a pack of fun, not to talk of an amazing weather.... I was going to this Pub Crawl without any expectation in Madrid, but she manage to get us all around the place answering every question that we had, if it wasn't by her, the city of Madrid would be so boring. She's tiny but has a strong voice so be aware of that! 5 out of five.

We did the free walking tour today around Madrid with our leader Silvia who was super active, full of jokes and animation in the extreme heat! It was hovering around 36*c (in the shade), but she was always entertaining and full of interesting historic information and myths about statues, squares and buildings that we visited :)

I had the best time in Madrid with my tour guide Juan Carlos. I took the Tapas and Mysterious tour. He speaks fluent english which is great for me as I could understand everything he tries to explain about madrid. Took us through historic buildings while passionately explaining the mysterious stories behind it. The places he brought us for tapas... More

Very informative and nice guide. A very good experience. Of all the walking tours in Madrid this one clearly stands out as they are well organized and take you through the history pretty neat.

Went on 11am walking tour very informative about the area and different things would definately reccomend. The guide took us to many placed wouldn't have found on my own and many things I didn't know about Madrid. Took us to a restaurant afterwards where we had the menu del día which was great for the price. Decided to do tapas... More

Was a great way to learn the area and some Spanish history. My cousins and I all enjoyed ourselves and our tour guide Silvia was great! Very informative and funny (especially her flamenco dance), highly recommended.

Enjoyed the free walking tour at 11pm with Silvia. Learned a lot of funny, interesting facts about the city. Never boring to listen too and entertaining. Not too much dates, names and facts, but little funny stories. Enjoyed it so much I even went for the evening tour at 5pm too, but found that one a bit less interesting.

I went on the pub crawl twice with Juan Carlos. The first time was a Tuesday and I wasn´t expecting much but it was so much fun. He took us to about 5 places and was very attentive to us and always made sure we had a good time. The group got along really well all because he made sure... More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
