You may need the whole afternoon to get around it entirely as there are several activities and monument to see located in the park. I recommend renting a boat to admire Alfonso XII's monument, price is cheap and the experience is relaxing. Also, you may want to take a look at the "fuente del angel caido" which is one of among the only three representations of Lucifer in the whole world. The fountain is, for the anecdote, located 666 meters above sea level (according to a local guide we met).

An easy stop on the metro, Retiro was a great place for us to walk around. We found the gravel paths always busy with other park visitors as well as street performers and artists. There are many cafes where you can find a meal or a treat and we were able to find toilets easily. Enjoy watching the paddlers row their boats about or join the fun for a small price of €6 for an hour. A playground also satisfied the 4-8 age range.

We passed an afternoon rambling through Parque del Retiro. Lots of street entertainers (musicians, etc) which were interesting. Be careful of people shoving flowers, etc into your hand looking for payment!
We rented a row boat on the lake - €6 for 45 mins.
There were a few cafes but they were very expensive (€8 for a plate of chips!!) We stopped for a drink which was nice but overpriced.

Not only do we love to run (more like slow jog or slog, for us) in Parque del Retiro - it is near our hotel - it is a beautiful, friendly, easy to navigate, and wonderfully serene place to walk, with many different landscaped areas and paths. We stopped on a Sunday afternoon and it seemed like all of Madrid was out strolling, picnicking, enjoying a beautiful day. We sat on a bench by the lake and took it all in, then strolled back to our hotel (my husband did his daily plank and then some tai chi on the way), happily refreshed and uplifted. There is a saxophone player at the right end of the lake that has been there for at least as long as we have been visiting Madrid (10 years?), and my husband listens for him on our runs and leaves a donation in his box and returns with a joyful look on his face and says, "All is right with the world."

Amazing park with lake inside, in the heart of Madrid. Perfect for pets or for a walk. The park is very big, so make sure you have proper shoes. Inside you can find many ice cream spots. On the lake you can have a small boat and enjoy a ride for a fee. Make sure you take a hat and sun glasses as it can be very hot.

We were on a hen do in Madrid and came for a walk around the park. It is a beautiful setting with lots of gardens and in the centre of it all is water. On thé water you can hire boats to paddle around on. It was only 8 euros for 45 minutes and can fit up to four people in a boat. There were some people playing music and a few restaurants/cafes to have drinks and food in around. The boats were so much fun and even though the line can look quite long to get on them it went really quickly.
After the boats, we sat and had calamari sandwiches and processco sangria! A lovely park!

An expansive gorgeous park. The grounds are amazing and very well kept. Particularly liked the little flower garden in the centre. The lake was a lovely view. There’s an opportunity to hire a rowing boat however I’m not sure if the price of that. Only thing was that the food and drink in the cafe by the lake was VERY expensive. 14 euros for 2 soft drinks and croissants. But that is expected being a tourist attraction. The glass palace is also stunning. Overall a great place to walk, run and generally take a break from the bustling city

Absolutely huge park, a must visit. So nice to walk through on a sunny day with plenty of places to sit and relax. We visited the free art exhibition at the Crystal Palace, we also spent time watching some street performers and little terrapins in a pond.

Retiro Park or simply El Retiro is one of the largest parks of the city of Madrid, and one of the main attractions. It is larger than HYDE PARK. In 2021, Buen Retiro Park became a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was a royal retreat in the 19th century. It is a popular public outdoor space for many locals and tourists alike. This urban park is centered around a beautiful lake and you have to enjoy the magical crystal palace. I had a beautiful stroll and a refreshing walk on my visit to Madrid in December. Please do Skip the Real Jardín Botánico 1942 (Royal Botanic Gardens) and visit the Retiro Park, instead.

This was nice for our first day in Madrid. We had been on a plane for 9 hours so we headed to the park to stretch our legs and get some fresh air. We specifically went to see Palacio de Cristal (separate review). There are a lot of walking paths, large lake where you can rent a boat, shaded picnic areas. I wouldn't say it was one of my top Madrid experiences though. Get rid of all the circus act people crowding the sidewalk looking for a payout. You cheapened the experience and overshadowed the beauty of the park.
