- Nurikabe_12New York City, New York881 contributionsBullfighting ArenaQuite some distance away from Madrid's main attractions, but still easily accessible my Metro. The architecture is nice and makes great photos from the outside. The moorish influence is readily visible.Visited November 2023Traveled soloWritten November 30, 2023

- Joshua HThe Hague, The Netherlands38 contributionsA must-see attraction in MadridI really liked it here. The museum was interesting and informative, not too boring. It’s a fascinating piece of history and still in use today. It’s also the best example of Mudejar architecture in Madrid by far, so in my opinion a must-see for any visitor. All the staff here were very friendly too and the vibe is unique. There’s a virtual reality bullfight you could partake in. There’s also a taxidermy bull from the ring that you can see up close. You have to leave a deposit behind to get an audio guide, which is pretty essential to getting a good visit here.Visited April 2024Traveled soloWritten April 2, 2024

We visited with the audio guide during the final slot of the day having booked online in the afternoon and it was quiet. Got to stand alone in the middle of the ring which was pretty cool. The blend of history, architecture, and tradition made it a memorable stop on our trip. The Setting Plaza de Toros de Las Ventas is the largest bullring in Spain and a significant cultural landmark. The architecture is stunning, with its Neo-Mudéjar style and intricate brickwork. The grand façade, with its detailed arches and tiles, immediately captures your attention as you approach. Family-Friendly Atmosphere While the bullring is primarily associated with bullfighting, which may not be suitable for all families, our visit was focused on the architectural tour and the museum. This approach made it a family-friendly outing, allowing us to appreciate the cultural aspects without engaging in the actual bullfighting events. Activities and Attractions * Guided Tour: We opted for a guided tour, which was informative and engaging. The guide provided a thorough history of Las Ventas, explaining its significance in Spanish culture. The children were fascinated by the stories and the grandeur of the arena. * Museum of Bullfighting: The museum inside Las Ventas was a highlight. It offered a detailed look at the history and art of bullfighting, with exhibits that included traditional costumes, photographs, and paintings. The interactive displays were particularly appealing to the kids, making it an educational experience. * Exploring the Bullring: Walking through the bullring itself was an awe-inspiring experience. Standing in the center of the arena, we could imagine the intensity of the bullfights. The kids enjoyed exploring the various sections, including the stables and the chapel. * Photo Opportunities: The architecture provided numerous opportunities for stunning photographs. The colorful tiles and detailed designs were perfect backdrops for family pictures. Tips for Visiting Families * Choose the Right Tour: If you have young children, consider choosing a tour that focuses on the architecture and history rather than the bullfighting. This ensures the experience remains suitable for all ages. * Prepare for the Heat: The open-air structure of Las Ventas can get quite hot, especially in the summer. Bring hats, sunscreen, and water to stay comfortable. * Educational Approach: Explain the cultural and historical significance of the bullring to the kids beforehand. This helps them appreciate the visit more and understand the context. * Museum Visit: Allocate enough time for the museum, as it provides a rich context and deeper understanding of the bullring and bullfighting traditions. Visiting Plaza de Toros de Las Ventas was a unique and enriching experience for our family. The architectural beauty, combined with the historical and cultural insights, made it a worthwhile visit. While the topic of bullfighting can be sensitive, focusing on the cultural aspects and history allowed us to have a meaningful and enjoyable family outing. We left with a deeper appreciation for this iconic Spanish landmark and many wonderful memories.Visited February 2024Traveled with familyWritten July 28, 2024
- Sally62Northampton, United Kingdom6,072 contributionsVery interesting self-guided audio tourWe took the self-guided audio tour on the bullring which was very detailed and allowed us to go round at our own pace. A huge building with lots to see and a museum at the end with costumes and paintings. Learnt a lot about both the building, bullfighting, the people who have fought here and what it means to the local people. Really interesting to learn more about the culture. Would recommend a visit.Visited September 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten September 25, 2024

Even if I was appaled to find out that corridas are still attended to and very much admired in Spain, in my opinion, while in Madrid, the Museo Taurino is something that must be seen.
We chose to arrive by subway as the system is very good in this city and inexpensiv. It is also an experience in itself, adding to the local urban flavour. The hard part is to figure how to buy the tickets and use them. Just ask one of the attendants for help. Most Spanish people do not speak English but they are very nice and freindly and try to do their best to assist you.
So, coming up from the subway at the Las Ventas station, you see a huge square, beaten by the hot Spanish sun, and to your left, the imposing red brick building of Museo Taurino.

Arranged for a bullfight through efficient and effective online service. Arrived half an hour before the event to pick up the tickets nearby, headed to the event, which was jammed with well heeled patrons and others. Paid E1.5 for a soft seat. You really cannot believe the seating arrangement, few aisles, rows of concrete, rows so tight that your knees dam into the person in front of you unless you more or less straddle the back of the person in front of you. Attendance was high. I found the bullfight shocking; a bull is literally repeated worn down with thrusts of different traditional lances and spiked banderillas until the final thrust after a lot of toreador machismo and posturing. Given the highly enthusiastic crowd and the Spanish culture and history of the tradition which seems capable of sustaining this, I believe this practice will be around for some time. I would advised against patronizing and personally regret attending.

This interactive audio tour of Las Ventas Bullring was fantastic. We went early in the day, when the place was less crowded, allowing us to fully explore the place. In particular, we took the opportunity to do a VR bullfight, take photos in the ring and visit the bullfighting museum. A great experience full of information, and very easy to reach by Metro.

We got to the arena by Metro and the stop is right at the entrance. The metro stop is "Ventas"
We opted for the self guided tour with the audio guide which came with the tickets. It included the museum, the arena and a VR experience of a bull fight.
Very enlightening even for novices into the sport, with a lot of history of the sport. The audio guide is very well organised with numbers and explanations.
Please note you are allowed to take photos in the arena but not inside the museum, which houses old photos, manuscripts, costumes and equipment of famous bullfighters and even the stuffed heads of famous bulls.
It is possible to see the bull fight on specific days which are advertised well in advance.
There were vending machines but no restaurants.

We took the Metro and got off at the Ventas station. The bullring was right outside the exit and a quick walk to the ticket office.
Since it was winter, it was only being used for concerts so the center of the bullring was filled with a tent, stage and lights all around. The ticket desk did let us know about this in advance of our purchase. We still went ahead with the tour but did not get to see the bullring au naturel so our in the ring family photo was not quite the same.
The included audio guide was very informative. There were 10 stops including the chapel, royal box where the king and queen would site if in attendance, the entrances for the bull and the matador, the bullring, area where the bulls were kept, clinic for those injured, etc.
I also tried the VR bullfight and got virtually run over by the bull. The harness they put around me kept me in place since I assumed people could get quite wrapped up in the game and go a little crazy. Good self protection!
The final stop was the museum and here it presented a lot of details about many of the matadors including the female ones. Uniforms, capes, swords, paintings costs, program art and more were quite engrossing to read about. All items were accompanied by signage in both Spanish and English. At the end we also go a poster to take home as our souvenir.
Well worth the visit to see and learn more about the bullring and bullfighting.

I know it's not en vogue to say this, but go to a bullfight if at all possible. Yes, they kill bulls, probably 6 of them. If you've never seen a large animal die, it may impact you, but it's a Spanish tradition which I am glad I partook of and will recommend.
According to the flier I got, i was there on a festival week, hence why I had Monday tickets to a novillada (newbie) bullfight. It was interesting, artistic, and educational. There weren't a ton of tourists in the seats either, which was nice... Being a tourist.
After 4 bulls I got up to pee, but they lock the doors while bulls are in the ring so you got to be quick. I didn't know so I roamed the corridors. Even cooler, I got to see the horses go in and out and some showpieces.

Plaza de Toros de Las Ventas is a place where, in addition to bullfights, various events take place. The arena was built in the Neomudejar style, influenced by Arab and Christian culture. It is an artistic and architectural style that developed mainly in the Iberian Peninsula in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The outer walls have a Moorish style. The construction of the arena was completed in 1929. The first, inaugural bullfight took place on June 17, 1931. I am not a supporter of this type of entertainment , but externally the arena looks great with its Moorish style. If you come to Madrid, you should come to see it, even if you don't like bullfighting.

The visit is done with an audio guide. Lots of information in perfect French. The numbers that mark the visit are very visible. And the visit itself is very interesting and gives a lot of emotion. For the same price we have access to the museum, paintings, sculptures, costumes and clothing of light. It's Sumptuous.

This immense bull ring, the largest in Europe, has a huge history of contest, mayhem and goring in keeping with Spain’s age-old spectacle. However, today’s bullfighting attendances are at an all time low due to consumer resistance to these spectacles. In some parts of Spain, this activity is banned. The interactive audio tour of Las Ventas Bullring was informative but still failed to address the “bull in the room”. It was an interesting place that still seemed outdated and out of touch with today's sensibilities.

I want to go to 2 corridas in 2025 Feria Otono part of spain trip. (1) when the official Las Vantas 2025 schedule is published (2) I have looked at Las Vantas web site and since it is only in Spanish, il is difficult to me (I speak French and English) to figure out how it is working. Very easy to select the bullfight, the tendido and the seat but how it works once you have paid. Do you receive a confirmation, an electronic ticket (pdf) or do you have to get your ticket at Las Vantas the day of the corrida. Thank you. Richard
