The walk from Piazza Espana at one point was not pleasant and made us feel insecure.
The whole area is full of graffiti and reminds us of Harlem in the USA.
The center itself is not particularly impressive and we even witnessed a gang and police fight, in conclusion, it is better not to come here

The plaza is a fantastic focus of a lovely local neighbourhood. This is my favourite district in Madrid and it rocks all hours of the day and the night. There is a wonderful historical back story in the sense of the young girl, Malasana's, heroic stance against the invading Napoleonic Army.

In the plaza of dos de Mayo we heard a chorus called Solfonica who sang songs that everyone knew, from the Civil War and all struggles since. There were about 40 in this group and the crowd was part of it too. This is the day Madrid defeated Napoleon, and the folks take the occasion to reflect on and amplify their work to make their country a better place, especially in recent years.

I came here to browse the weekly Saturday market.. There are some interesting things in sale, but nothing you wouldn't see at other markets and it's a pretty small thing.. Might be different in the future...

Charming small square by day . Bustling nightlife area by night in the incredibly lively Malasana area. One of the best places in the world for nightlife that keeps going and going and going.
One of the areas that gives Madrids reputation of worlds best nightlife.
The whole area is absolutely inundated with bars and underground clubs with thousands of people every where. Must visit at night to see what i mean.

Important square not so much for its artistic or cultural, but to be one of the major attractions and night life of the city, being the square located in the heart of Malasana district, top fun and exciting place of Madrid, of course it is a little sqare a small memorial arch at the center of it. If you want the best absolutely come here in the evening, lovely atmosphere and plenty of pubs where to drink and have fun.

The Plaza del Dos de Mayo is where an uprising against the French troops of Napoleon started on May 2, 1808, because of the brutal repression used by the French troops. This was the beginning of the Spanish War of Independenc. There is an arch in the middle of the plaza that honors Captains Daoiz and Velarde with statues of this two men, a monument created by Antonio Sola in 1822 and installed in the plaza in 1869.

This is an attractive square which really buzzes. When we were there there was a market and a real party atmosphere. This is a really local community venue, not a tourist place but very welcoming and friendly.
