Came across this during some research prior to our first visit to Madrid.
Communication was excellent throughout and as the day of our tour drew near it transpired that we were the only booking for that evening.
We took a relaxed view and offered Andres the opportunity not to bother if it was not worth his while but he went ahead and so we had a private tour.
All the bars we visited were good in their own different ways the highlight been the Iberican ribs.
If you are working to a budget then you could get the food/wine cheaper by wandering around yourself, but there are so many bars in Madrid that the local knowledge is well worth paying for.

All I can say is you should all do this tour. It's really a good way to see different parts of Old Madrid whilst sampling very good selection of wine. The tortilla in the 3rd bar is the best I ever had. It's also great to meet others with similar tastes. Andres is the perfect host and guide. You will not be disappointed.

I cannot say enough good things about Andres and this tour. I took two tapas tours (Adventerous Appetites and Walks of Spain) because as a single traveller it is a safe, fun way to experience Madrid nightlife in a convivial group setting.
I can recommend both tours highly. They are very different and the pricing is different. Check both tours to compare. In my opinion, Walks of Spain would be my #1 pick. It was the perfect combination of history, local customs, gourmet and different tapas and an introduction to some unique Spanish drinks including vermouth, sherry and FANTASTIC wines. Andres is very relaxed, making it a comfortable and tranquil 3 hours. He took us to atypical bodegas, restaurants and areas. At every stop, a table was waiting for us and the owners were waiting to welcome our group. Andres introduces us to vermout (vermouth) and gave a great background on it's history in Spain. We had the best jamon (free-range, acorn-only feed piggies); Manchego marinated in a different way than any others I have tasted; Sherry to die for when combined with the jamon y queso. The next stop was a polished, yet relaxed, gourmet small, award-winning restaurant. We had beautifully presented and delicious tapas in a sleek, modern atmosphere. We ended the evening at a very nice restaurant, sitting at a fantastic table inside but with open doors at our table in a private, quiet part of the restaurant. It was just the right amount of food to enable us to really taste and appreciate. The wine was amazing and Andres is so knowledgeable. I won't ruin the surprise at the end of dinner, but it involves Spanish dessert wine with a dollop of something wonderful. Euro to Euro, a great evening, amazing value and an introduction to the foodie side of Madrid. FYI...this tour would be enjoyed by older, well-behaved children who are used to dining in restaurants. Non-alcoholic drinks are plentiful. I would have taken my boys on it as they love good food and are experienced travellers (ages 9 and 11).

I do not say this lightly. I have done food tours all over Europe including the Devour one here in Madrid the previous night (see my review).

This "Walks of Madrid Tapas Tour" with Andres is hands down the joint best I've done (the other was with another local person - a Lisbon food writer in that case).

So why? Well, firstly what I've learnt over the years is that always where possible book with a local, preferably who is not just a 'local guide' with a big company who will have lots of overheads (read expensive).

Andres took us to 4 local places he knew well
None were tourist traps, all were superb in terms of food, drink and atmosphere and the quantities of both food and wine received. Do not eat before this tour!.

What makes this tour so special though is Andres himself.
Passionate and knowledgable about Spanish wine, he even brought along his own 'fine wine' to accompany the food.
The quality was superb, streets ahead both in terms of quality and quantity to what we had received the precious evening.
He really excelled in the matching aspect. How many so called "food & wine matching" tours I've been on where the guide has not really known (or had the budget) to do this aspect properly. Andres is simply streets ahead here.

In summary, seriously just book this. It's an absolute joy and you'll learn loads.
When I return to Madrid, this is the first thing I will book (again). I can give no recommendation higher than that!.

Thank you Andres for resisting the commercial pull of the big companies and striking out on your own. You are a credit to your city and the tour you are providing is first class. Do not change a thing!

We have found gourmet walking tours a great way to learn about the history, culture and culinary traditions of a city/country. We enjoy small tours, lead by someone knowledgeable and who has a relationship with the owners. The description of this tour sounded like it would meet our requirements. In addition, the price of the tour included ALL the beverages and tastings. (With other tours, only the first drink and tapas is included. You pay for everything else.) THIS TOUR WAS EXCELLENT! Andres is very personable, knowledgeable of Madrid (and it's history), typical foods and wines and has a great relationship with the owners. The tastings are often and generous portions! Would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Madrid. Everything was as advertised! Thanks, Andres!

My girlfriend and I joined 6 others on this tour. Our tour guide Andres was enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the sites, wine, and tapas. We were blessed with a fun group, so fun that when our tour ended (around 10pm I think) we as a group continued on to the early hours of the morning. The first stop was a market, where within are a smorgasbord of tapas and drinks ( I returned the following day to taste many of both). From the market we traveled to a few local eateries, enjoying the finest of meats that Spain has to offer; from the black pig in Spain. The last stop included several wines that our group enjoyed the most. As the tour ended, we learned that the wine could not be purchased from the location because Andres brought wine from local bodegas not sold in local stores or restaurants. Disappointing, as we wanted another bottle when it ended; nonetheless, it demonstrated that Andres was providing for his clients something they would not otherwise experience. A tour well designed. A job well done. A night to remember. New friends encountered. I look forward to my next ttrip to Madrid, and my next Tapas Tour with Andres.

Just got home from a week in Madrid and wanted to rave about our Wine and Tapas tour with Andres Jarabo.

Aside from our tour of the Prado museum, this tour was the highlight of our week in Madrid. Andres is a kind and wonderful host, who lead us from place to place introducing us to classic Madrid tapas and pairing with each item a very special Spanish wine. He provides the wines from her personal collection and these are excellent wines, not cheap stuff.

Andres was raised in Madrid and happily provides the history of the places you visit and the neighborhood as well as answer any questions our group had about Madrid or Spain in general. Andres is charming and delightful and this tour is a real value. Andres does not ration the wine, but encourages you to try more and others. When the tour officially concluded Andres was happy to walk with anyone in the group through the neighborhood as people departed.

This tour is a must do when you visit Madrid. You will have a wonderful time. If we ever go back to Madrid, we will be looking up Andres.

One final thought -- Andres is a small business operator and paying him in cash is an important courtesy. While he accommodated credit cards, it was a problem for him to do so -- and this is a problem easily avoided. Bring Euros.

If you enjoy great wine, great company, great food, and a great night out, then you'll love Andres' tour. I was expecting a few wines and a little bit to eat, but what I got was a LOT of wines - and different varieties - the rich history of old Madrid, and more than I could eat. I'm very glad I did it and wouldn't hesitate to recommend to anyone heading to Madrid.

Andres is passionate about his food and wine. It was obvious from the tour that he loves what he does. We did this on the day of arrival and it gave us an introduction to the food and nightlife. We had a good group and this made a huge difference. The tour lasted more than 2 hours. It was so much fun. What we paid was worth it to the amount of food and wine we consumed. Andres made excellent selections at each of the bars we visited and we were happy to have done this tour to start our Madrid trip.

I am not a big fan of tours but I highly recommend taking this one with Andres Jarabo. It was splendid. Andres was very knowledgeable not only of the wine and food but Madrid and its history as well. I like the wine and food selection (sherry, vermouth, jamon iberico, calamares, manchego cheese, filet mignon and a paella-like dish). We paid 58 euros each and I say it was worth it.
