Gave us a great into into the different Tapas bars, what they specialise in and how they all differ. I've never seen so much Tapas as in Madrid and if you love food, you really want to do this to get a handle on where to go (and where not to). Having arrived Thursday night and spent Friday day wandering... More

This is a great tour. Meet some new people, try new food and drinks. Also learn about the city and some history. James in Madrid gave us such a good tour that we did the tour again in Seville. Guillermo in Seville was very knowledgeable about his city. Both tours also offered us recommendations on places to eat and other... More

If I could describe this tour in one word, it would be “fun” (though maybe it’s a tie between “fun” and “filling”—you WILL NOT finish this tour hungry, no matter how peckish you are when you start). James is a colorful raconteur. His humorous take on things immediately creates an atmosphere of comradery, as though you’re strolling through the city... More

This was a great introduction to tapas! Delia was our guide and she was very organized with the tour. She brought us to various bars and gave us some anecdotes and historical context with the tour. Even as we were walking along the street, she was providing historical information and other interesting facts. She was also able to provide good... More

The tour was brilliant! James was an amazing and funny guide and took us to a few tapas bars which we would have never found on our own, as well as giving us suggestions for other bars and places to see. This tour is definitely worth the money and would recommend my friends/family to go on the tour if they... More

James is fun, there is no other word for it. With a quick banter and a good dose of charisma, he led our little group around some local prize pubs, filling us in on local tall tales and ghost stories while getting us to taste some delicious tapas and drink amazing wines. has he puts it, he's "a friend in... James helped us set up our tour (which we requested the day before by email) and he was very quick to respond and get things in order, even when we had payment issues. We had Miriam as our guide and she was fabulous. She was welcoming to everyone in the group and accommodated those with dietary restrictions. We went to... More

Our travel company booked us on this when we were visiting Madrid and we are real glad they did. James is a super host, a bit of history while walking between venues but not too heavy cos everyone's aim was to sample the food and drinks. James took us to some Tapas Bars that we would never had found on... More

We were 2 couples and joined this tour led by Miriam. There were 5 other people and encouraged by Miriam we were soon drinking and sharing food and travel tales like old friends. Miriam was very knowledgeable with a good sense of humour and fun. I would thoroughly recommend this tour.

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
