My husband, myself and my two young adult daughters recently spent an evening with Miriam from Adventurous Appetites on a Tapas Tour of Madrid. I can not say enough about this Company! Our flight from Boston was delayed resulting in us not arriving in Madrid in time for our scheduled tour on a Saturday night. I called James on that... More

I booked an exclusive tour as a team-building evening during a business trip from London to Madrid, and all the feedback from my team has been that it was the best team-building event ever and thoroughly enjoyed by all. Other than that, I'd just repeat the other good words about James as a host, and the overall experience being thoroughly... More

We toured four establishments and the food and drink were amazing! James was great with the travel tips and techniques and some of the history for Madrid! We would definitely do this again!

As my trip to Madrid was a surprise booked by my husband I literally stumbled on this tour whilst on TripAdvisor on our first day in Madrid so quickly sent an email. James responded really quick but the only availability on our last night – wasn’t a problem and we booked it straight away. Now I won’t go into too... More

We were honoured to spend the evening in the company of James whose knowledge of Madrid and its best tapas and nightlife was astounding. He was not only a font of knowledge and contacts, but excellent company and accompanied us well into the small hours for an unforgettable experience with Adventurous Appetites

Gave us a great into into the different Tapas bars, what they specialise in and how they all differ. I've never seen so much Tapas as in Madrid and if you love food, you really want to do this to get a handle on where to go (and where not to). Having arrived Thursday night and spent Friday day wandering... More

This is a great tour. Meet some new people, try new food and drinks. Also learn about the city and some history. James in Madrid gave us such a good tour that we did the tour again in Seville. Guillermo in Seville was very knowledgeable about his city. Both tours also offered us recommendations on places to eat and other... More

If I could describe this tour in one word, it would be “fun” (though maybe it’s a tie between “fun” and “filling”—you WILL NOT finish this tour hungry, no matter how peckish you are when you start). James is a colorful raconteur. His humorous take on things immediately creates an atmosphere of comradery, as though you’re strolling through the city... More

This was a great introduction to tapas! Delia was our guide and she was very organized with the tour. She brought us to various bars and gave us some anecdotes and historical context with the tour. Even as we were walking along the street, she was providing historical information and other interesting facts. She was also able to provide good... More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
