This plaza in is named in honour of Jacinto Benavente, the Spanish dramatists and 1922 Nobel Prize winner for literature. As usual with plazas around Spain, there's plenty of restaurants and cafes around the square. This plaza is also in a busy part of Madrid and many of the size streets leading to and from the plaza also has plenty of of places to eat and shop.

As plazas in Spain go, there's nothing really notable about this plaza other than the aforementioned distractions. There's is however a rather interesting bronze sculpture in the square of a road sweeper replete with a a bronze sweeper and rubbish attached. A very popular selfie attraction on it's own.

Single statue, nothing special on the theatre (on other photos there is like spider and those legs) but nothing this time. Of course a lot of restaurants etc. And renovated buildings

By day this lovely plaza seems to attract mostly locals who settle-in for leisurely afternoon coffee or wine at one of the several outdoor cafes. Service is a bit slow but you are free to stay as long as you'd like to linger over coffee under the shade of a table umbrella -- very laid back. At night it's a wholly different vibe. The average age seems to drop a full generation. Well dressed professionals mingle. I strongly suggest an evening visit if your under 40 and looking for company. The afternoons are best for older couples and families. But either time of day, this is a less visited gem.

It’s really my favorite section of Madrid—modest and “human” in scale and offerings: excellent chocolateria and restaurants (such as El Cardeno) with outdoor seating, the Teatro Calderon, and just a couple blocks from the enticements of the Plaza Mayor (west) and Plaza de Santa Ana (with its historic cafes/diners) east. I stayed at the Hostal Persal a couple decades ago and may try it again next time. Great place to base yourself.

This plaza center in Madrid is full of ppl with a great city vibe. All kind of markets, restaurants, shopping and a metro line. Easily accessible to walk around and meet and talk to locals. Stay away from any souvenirs shops as you can buy elsewhere for cheaper.

This is a great area to start and end any adventure in Madrid. You can get to almost anywhere from here. Great restaurants and friendly local atmosphere. Close to Puerta del Sol, Plaza Mayor, Calle Arenal and Calle Atocha with easy access by walking or Metro to any other location. Lots of activity and people watching. Our favorite place to hang for sure!

Plaza de Jacinto Benavente is one of Madrid's many open plazas in the city centre where you can find restaurants, bars and and outdoor cafe seating. It is found along Calle De Atocha and is where several other streets converge, including Calle De La Cruz, Carretas and Bolsa.

During our visit there was a food fair being held at Plaza de Jacinto Benavene. I'm not sure if this is a permanent setup or just seasonal but we enjoyed browsing by the stands and sampling some of the foods on offer. There was a large cheese stand that had some really nice products. Others were selling sausage, ham, nuts and cakes and other foods.

There is a bronze statue of a man sweeping the street at Plaza de Jacinto Benavente called the Madrid Sweeper. This is interesting to find if you enjoy statues and monuments. We took break at the Cafe & Te branch at this public square for a break from walking. There are a handful of other cafe options here and lots more available throughout the area.

In the end, not a critical area to visit in Madrid but a decent public square if you are passing by or simply browsing the streets of Madrid.

On a roasting hot early evening my twin brother Stephen and I were exploring around this area of Barrio De Sol and we walked through Plaza De Jacinto Benavente ,viewed this square many times over the years and it still impresses me.
I love the architecture around this plaza ,viewing Teatro Calderón is always a joy ,there's a great statue on this square called Monumento Barrendero Madrileno ,a statue in honour of the street sweepers of Madrid, around the square and in the streets leading into Plaza De Jacinto Benavente are some great pubs, bars, cafe's and restaurants, all in all its a great plaza to check out if you're planning a holiday to Madrid.

The plaza was very busy as there were many people gathering here. There were many shops and restaurants around. It was a lively scene.
