Top ways to experience Plaza de Chueca
The area
Neighborhood: Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.

Not much to it.
Sep 2019
Not much to it. Low key location if you want to get away from the crowds for a dinner. the plaza itself is pretty small, but quiet.

Busy plaza .
Sep 2019 • Friends
The busy and bustling Plaza De Chueca is a fantastic square in what in my opinion is one of the best district's in Madrid and one of the most vibrant barrio's in Madrid namely Chueca.
This square is just so cool ,its only a small plaza but packed with pubs, bars and restaurants, we visited the area and the square a couple of times on our nine days holiday to Madrid, hit some great bars ,it was just so good sitting outside a bar enjoying a cold beer and soaking up the great vibe in this eclectic and cool area, getting to this plaza could not be easier, the metro to stop Chueca drops you off in the plaza.
Most definitely well worth checking out if your in the area.

Lively Gay District
Jul 2019 • Couples
Nice, lively plaza to watch the people. Centre of the Chueca, gay district. Have a drink, eat and enjoy the vibrant area. Nearby also many night clubs and showbars. It is also local residential and commercial area.

gay pride in plaza chueca
Jul 2019 • Couples
had a good time here for gay pride Madrid. This was one of 7 stages dotted around the city for gay pride. Stage set up with plenty of entertainment. Lots of cafes, restaurants to get food and drink. People dancing and having fun.

Nice plaza
Oct 2018 • Couples
Plaza de Chueca is a nice area with several cafes, bars and restaurants. It is not very busy during the day time, or that was the case on the day we visited. It comes to life late in the day. If you are a night person, then you will probably like this plaza.

Nice at night
Dec 2018 • Couples
A few restaurants and bars with some shops around the plaza with plenty of side streets to wander around. The plaza comes to life in the early evening with Christmas lights strung across at this time of year.

Christmas lights.
Dec 2018 • Solo
Simple but effective Christmas lighting make this a lovely atmospheric place right now. Plenty of nice places to eat and drink. Lovely.

Nice respite
Oct 2018 • Couples
If you are shopping for outlet shoes, or getting off the metro at this stop, you cannot miss it. It is a nice respite from the shopping with several restaurants in the plaza and surrounding neighborhood. It is not over run with tourists. If you are in the neighborhood it's worth a look.

Comes alive at night
Oct 2018 • Solo
This square does not have much to recommend it during the day but I recently came through it at night and the bars and restaurants make it come alive with many dining outside.

More lively today
Jul 2018 • Couples
Not sure who but came through here and there were at least some places open with customers sitting having lunch. Normally when I have been it is deserted.
