I enjoyed viewing this place but it was not opened during my visit. Still it was a nice place to photograph and I enjoyed the architecture.

We walked to the church. Its easy to find it, within walking distance from the center of Logroño.

Nice old church, situated in the middle of a square. Small shops surround the square as well.

There is some impressive traditional decoration in this large church, which is situated in a quiet square. There is also an intriguing mixture of new and old and my favourite piece was a more modern looking sculpture on the north wall of Jesus carrying the cross. It really is quite striking, but I couldn't help wondering why the sculptor made the cross so ornate, instead of a more realistic rough-hewn affair.

No doubt there is a religious or artistic reason that is beyond me.

Beautiful historic and worth a visit. plus free to visit. All the attractions (cathedrals and churches) are near each other, so worth stopping in all the churches in this beautiful tourist friendly town.

I really enjoy the architecture design of these structures. The details on the exterior art work is amazing. It's a great place to enjoy the solitude.

Interesting Plaza to the exterior right of the main door, with huge dice , kind of modern art meets old world.
There is also a painting in the back of this Church linking the then young Escriva to the town (from memory he as here from 1915-25).

We did not go inside but enjoyed exploring the area in the early afternoon. There is a square right outside with where you can take pictures if you're interested in that sort of thing. Not necessarily a destination stop but we're really glad we found it by accident.

The church of Santiago el Real in Logroño has the oldest history of all its churches. It dates back to when
Santiago supposedly preached in this area and a disciple built a humble temple in his honor in the spot where the current church is located. The original church was destroyed completely in a fire and was rebuilt in the 1500s. The existing structure was too ornate for my taste so did not like it much. Since I was doing the Camino, it was only proper that I visit a church dedicated to Santiago. The statue of Santiago Matamoros in the facade of the church is quite impressive and draws your interest to have a look at its interior. There is also one of him as a pilgrim in the gold leafed "retablo" behind the altar. Once inside, I lost interest not only because it was not my style (mostly Renaissance) but it held no "warmth" that invited me to stay and spend some quiet moments.

There is an interesting structure outside that houses a fountain which I assume pilgrims used or possibly use still to this day for a drink of water.

After seeing the magnificent Romanesque church of the Holy Sepulcher at Torres del Rio and the charming church at Los Arcos where several architectural styles harmoniously coexist, I left this church feeling underwhelmed.

I was grateful however that none of the churches in Logroño requieres an entrance fee although there are donation boxes for a voluntary contribution scattered around the churches. As you go west to Santiago, there are many churches that require entrance fees unless you are there in time for a mass. It's a pity that peregrinos have to pay to enter a church. Most of us walk the Camino not as tourists but as individuals in search of answers to Life questions.

Since it's free and doesn't need to take a lot of time, it is nice to stop by, but if you arelooking for grandness, it may dissapoint you.

The main attraction of this church is undoubtedly the famous statue outside. You have join in with everyone else looking at the rather enormous bits of the horse, but to be honest, once you've seen that, the rest of the church isn't that interesting. The altarpiece is quite good, but it's not the best example of the type. As with other churches in the town, there are several beggars waiting outside for people entering the church and it did feel slightly intimidating on occasions.

Overall, it's probably worth a visit, if only for the statue, but not quite the main attraction of Logrono.
