A dream! This island is just wonderful! Clean, and perfect for a getaway! You can take one of (at least) 2 ferry companies right at Vigo’s harbour and enjoy! My advice is going with your own food, drinks, and bath towel.
These isles are located a short boat ride from Vigo. An unspoiled spot of land with scenic hills and amazing view over the ocean.
I suggest taking some stuff for bathing, as there are couple of beaches with sand, where you can have a good...More

We went to the CIes Islands recently. The important thing to remember is that only 2000 people are allowed on the islands each day so you need to get authorisation before you book your ferry from Vigo. You do need to do this in advance as when we were there, the day we really wanted to go was fully booked up. When you get the authorisation, you then can book the ferry. If you try to book the ferry, you will be directed to the website to get the authorisation codes. For us, the return trip to the Cies Islands was about 38 Euros for 2 people. We left Vigo at 11.30 and returned on an 18.40 ferry. When we were there, we did 3 of the walks. We could have returned earlier but you have to book a return ticket in advance and can't change it. You can easily do the trip on your own. How far is it from where your cruise liner docks to the leaving point for the Cies Islands? Another thing to remember is that, even if you book online, you still have to collect your ticket from the ticket offices near the departure point.
Transportation to Islas Cies - And Other Beaches (2 Replies)
Hi My husband and I will be going to Spain for 2 weeks on July 30. We would love to see/visit nice beaches there, but finding it really hard finding information on good beaches and available transportation. Any tips on what beaches to visit and the applicable transportation? Also, how can we get to Islas Cies? Is a day's visit enough to enjoy the island? Thank you so much for your help :)

hi, we too did a 6-day trip at the beginning of this month. couldn't get enough of the region. a few ideas: - Pontevedra's Provincial Museum: very interesting collection - Lugo: the Roman wall is impressive; a good number of other well-preserved pre-Roman and Roman monuments and artifacts scattered in the city and in the outskirts - Santiago de Compostela: the Cathedral is worth a visit, the town is charming, and if u chance on a market day, go visit -- the seafood on array made...More
three days after santiago (7 Replies)
Hi there, My girlfriend and I will be leaving santiago on the 10th July and are due to arrive in Porto on the 15th. We have two nights booked on Las Islas Cies for the 13th and 14th but was wondering if anyone had any ideas what to do for the three nights in between? I was thinking of staying in vigo but have heard mixed reports. Somewhere near a beach with a cheap hostal/pension would be ideal as we are on a budget. Thank you for your help.

Hi, check out Baiona Galicia (Bayona) near Vigo, nice beach etc. Another place would be Caminha just across the border in Portugal. River Mino meets Atlantic with some great beaches. If the Ferry runs across, in Spain ona clif is an old celtic setlement. Reachable by train on the route to Porto. You'll find more info just plug into G. Martin
