Parque Monte del Castro is a park located in a mountain, where there was a castle, in the biggest city in Galicia Region, in the North of Spain. We visited and walk in the park and the remains of the castle, from where you can see nice views of Vigo, their port and surroundings. It is a place to walk, relax and eat something in a pic-nic or in few bars, you can see in the park. A good walk in morning.

Worth the walk up to the park from the marina. Views are panoramic and absolutely magnificent. Be aware that it is a steep walk up and down. It’s a lovely park with many people running walking and taking dogs for a stroll.

On a recent cruise stop we decided to wander through the town and to the top of this fort. The entrance to the fort is approximately 15 minutes walk uphill from the cruise terminal - through the oyster market or shopping centers. It then took us approximately 30 minutes and what must have been hundreds of steps up to the top of the hill. Was it worth it? Absolutely. Even though we visited in November, the skies were clear and the views amazing. Great photo op. You can see straight down to the port, to the cruise ship and across the bay, over the tops of all the buildings - lovely.

Lots of evergreen trees and an abundance of places to sit. The steps are in stages with plenty of places to stop and catch your breath! We spent a further 30 minutes walking around the old fort and celtic settlement before heading back to do some shopping in town. Going back is a lot easier!

You absolutely must be prepared for a lot of uphill walking and steps so wear comfy shoes.

We are on a Med cruise and Vigo is our first stop.
Not a massive amount to see in Vigo, but a must is the view from the castle on top of Parque Monte del Castro.
The park/castle is pretty easy to spot as it's by far the highest point in Vigo, it's a 10 minute walk from the pretty harbour.
There are a lot of step steps to get to the castle, in fact hundereds of steps luckily there are lots of flat areas with seats and the obligatory views.
Get to the top and enjoy the park like area with fountain and of course the amazing view.
Tip fairly near the top is a car park so you can get a taxi.
Bring water there is no cafe at the top.
It's quicker walking down

For clarification, this and Castro Fortress are the same (although the parque covers more ground). Good hike up the hill, there are places you can rest. After last set of stairs from the front, take the road to your right and follow around to the entrance (free) which is in the rear. Grounds are well maintained. Plenty of picture ops. Good thing to do if you come by ship for the day and want to explore the city. You might want to save your wine/beer stops until after your hike!

We thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon here. It was a great place to stroll and enjoy the history, the wonderful views of Vigo from the top, the trees and open spaces, as well as the playgrounds and exercise parks. It has something for everyone, but beware - is on the crest of the hill so there is much uphill walking.

This parque offers the best view of the city and the beautiful Cíes Islands, it's a small climb from the city centre.

We visited Vigo on the cruise ship, Oasis of the Seas (largest in the world). We had a great view of the ship and the 3 harbor areas of Vigo from the old fort. Then we walked down the hill and through the Celtic ruins and the old city before arriving back at the cruise port.

Well worth the climb - 'pencil in' a morning or afternoon here. Popular with cruise goers too when their ship calls at the nearby deep-water port.

We enjoyed our afternoon walking around and taking in the great views. Wear comfortable shoes and be aware that it is a climb to get to the top of the hill, but the view is worth it.
