the church was packed...standing room was at a minium. Filled with pilgrims attending mass and at the end of mass they swung the Botafumeiro and it was so moving.

Many of the weary pilgrims arriving into the cathedral after their pilgrimage (whatever distance they have done) will find the mass a pretty spiritual thing anyway but the swinging of the Botafumeiro completes the experience. It isn't swung for every pilgrim's mass so you can...More

We saw this event at a Pilgrim Mass on a Friday. You need to arrive a couple of hours early if you want a seat. It is very well worth seeing having read all the hype.

Attending a mass in the cathedral is a moving experience even if you are not religious. Check when the Botafumeiro will be swinging normally every day at the 12 noon service or other times when tour groups have booked it)

After arriving from El Camino the Pilgrims Mass is offered.firing holidays and in special occasions the Botafumeiro works. Centuries of tradition and the solemnity to close the Mass. if you are lucky you will see it flying through the Cathedral. A moment of grace.

My understanding is that this is part of the "Pilgrims' Mass" so look for the schedule of the Pilgrims' Mass. The Pilgrim Mass is usually held daily at 12 noon at the high alter in Santiago de Compostela Cathedral, as well... More
