Bordering the Eastern part of the old town is this park known locally as Alameda. Located on a hill, the park is a landscape of contrasts. also stands out due to the variety and size of its trees, ornamental species, statutes and monuments, arrangement of flowerbeds, fountains and ponds. At the centre of the park in the highest post of the hill stands the closed Chapel of Santa Susana.

There's also a lookout point in the western edge of the park with magnificent views of the historic centre and the cathedral.

The park itself is beautiful, but the best kept secret is that, from a spot close to where the Valle-Inclan statue is, is the best place to take a picture of the Cathedral of Santiago.

This park was very closed to our Hotel (Hotel San Lorenzo) and has beautiful views of the cathedral and Santiago de Compostela. It is a safe place to walk and a place to go if you have some spare time in Santiago.

We decided to take a stroll on our last day. It was a very peaceful and tranquil experience. Loooking at the Cathedral thru the beautiful old trees was a warming experience. If you love nature you should take a walk.....

Enjoyed strolling through this park on a regular basis and seeing the changing seasons and locals out enjoying the green space. Nice lookouts towards the cathedral and central Santiago.

This is a lovely park designed to evoke thoughts of a 19th century country estate. It is a very large park that dates back to the 16th century. It is a great place for people/dog walking. Be sure to hear the story of the "Two Marias". I agree is is very inspirational.

Strolling among trees has to be one of the nicest things in life. Many folks doing just that, even on a foggy day.

Parque da Alameda, known locally as Alameda, is more than the Mirador, and provides a pleasant contrast to the old city.

Alameda is a park, a wooded hillside, tree-lined avenues, with views across to open countryside.

More like England than Spain, with daffodils.

The park even has a bandstand.

The trees, not yet in leaf, from the peeling bark, appeared to be pollarded Plane trees.

Sitting atop the hillside, the derelict church of Santa Susana.

In contrast with old city of Santiago de Compostela which is freezing cold with a freezing cold north wind blowing, Alameda pleasantly warm.

One reviewer described as 'tired' and suffering from lack of maintenance . Not true.

As you enter the park from the old city, there is an ugly modern building which is an unfortunate eyesore.

When you cross the road to re-enter the old city, pop into O Paris. Excellent for soup. afternoon tea and cake.

Most of the old city is all stone and concrete. On gray days this is only amplified. This park has a summit that can view most of the old city. Good distant shots of the city can be made here.

The paths are clean and benches for resting. There are sometimes some drunk elements here that are a bit distracting.

At the park's entrance from the old city there are many restaurants and cafes with outdoor seating.

Walk to the south end of the old town, then turn west in tothe park and follow the main allee up to the right. After a few hundred meters, a panorama of the old town and cathedral opens up (next to a huge old tree). Best photo op in Santiago, especially in the evening light.
