I returned from my Camino trip a week ago and as I reflect back on my experiences, I am thankful to Hike the Way. They say the Camino starts when you definitively decide and book your tickets and that is very true. Once I decided I was going to walk the Camino, I wanted to ensure an authentic Camino experience. I booked with Hike the Way because Jackie was so personable and timely in responding to all my inquiries (through phone and email). My main reason for choosing Hike the Way was because the company has individuals who have and continue to walk the various Caminos every year and therefore, they have first-hand knowledge about its requirements. Jackie was able to share direct experiences with a first-timer like myself as well as explain all the details about the luggage transfer, etc. She also handled the booking for my train tickets to Sarria, accommodations at the Parador in Santiago, and the bus tour to Finisterre.
Once we started the trek, the tour guide, Ria, far exceeded my expectations. She was extremely knowledgeable about the Camino, explained our daily routes the night before, and ensured we all met safely at designated points along the way. She went out of her way to provide an authentic Galician cuisine experience, while also arranging for delicious vegetarian meals for me. I wasn't expecting to eat much anticipating limited vegetarian food options. However, Ria arranged for the wholesome vegetarian food every day for lunch and dinner. Thank you Hike the Way and I look forward to booking my next Camino experience with you.

We had a fabulous trip! This is my second trip (I did the French Camino for 12 days and the Portuguese for 11 days) with Hike the Way - self-guided with luggage transfer- and each time it was flawless, affordable, and customized. I highly recommend Hike the Way for your Camino. We are going again next year and will try the Norte. Wonderful all around.

Our group of 7 travelers in their mid 60s to low 70s did a self-guided Portuguese Coastal Camino tour from A Guarda to Santiago with Hike the Way. We wanted private hotel rooms with bathrooms and to have our baggage transferred from hotel to hotel. We chose Hike the Way because of their excellent reviews, and we were very happy with their service. They contracted with Tee Travel, a Spanish company, which was responsible for booking the hotel rooms and transferring the luggage. We had absolutely no difficulty with any of these arrangements. Some hotels were nicer than others, some more convenient to the Camino than others, but all were good to excellent, all provided breakfast, and hotel personnel were uniformly friendly and helpful.
Jackie Dumoit of Hike the Way was herself very helpful. She responded to inquiries promptly and her blog posts provided excellent advice for the actual walking.
Our only concern is that the information on the website significantly underestimates the distances involved. Under "Our Latest Self-Guided Tours," the Portuguese Coastal Route from A Guarda to Santiago is listed as 85 miles. When we got our first quote and made our reservation, the distance had increased to 93 miles, and when we got our itinerary in May, it was 98 miles. When we saw our first trail marker (not when we took our first step), it said 160.8 km or 99.9 miles, and the Compostela office in Santiago said 163 km or 101.3 miles. For an eight day trip, that's an average of 2 extra miles a day from the advertised distance, which is significant on the longer days. Further, the official distance is for the Camino itself, and does not reflect any additional miles to get to the hotels. Some hotels were right on the Camino, others were a mile or more away.
Knowing that, would we have done this anyway? Absolutely. This is a walking tour, so you should be prepared to walk. It was a wonderful experience, and the days spent along the coast provided glorious views. The "Buen Camino" culture was warm and encouraging; it was fun to run into the same pilgrims in different locations, especially when we encountered them in Santiago.
We highly recommend the Camino, and Hike the Way for their excellent service.

We had a great trip and would recommend it to anyone interested in an active experience abroad. Hike the Way booked all of our hotels and luggage transport, and did it on pretty short notice. All of our accommodations worked out well, and we used some of their mapping information every day. We did not include evening meals and I am happy that we did not because the dinner culture in Spain starts somewhat later than we wanted. At the end of a day of walking, we found that we preferred to eat early and then go to bed just as the Spaniards were tuning up for the night. Our trip was on the Portuguese coastal route, and it was very beautiful with great weather.

I got back from my trip on the Camino last week. I can't say enough good things about the Hike the Way experience. All I had to think about was the walking. Hike the Way took care of everything else for me. Lodging, meals, and luggage transfer were all handled for me. Our guide was wonderful. She looked after us, answered all our questions patiently and shared her great knowledge and enthusiasm. I hope to return to the Camino and will definitely be booking with Hike the Way.

Excellent experience working with Hike the Way and Jackie. When I learned in February our original May Camino plans with another company were not going to work out, I found Hike the Way online, picked up the phone, called, and…Jackie answered! I described what we were hoping for in our first Camino experience and she immediately talked through some options.Given our timeline, we moved swiftly through planning, but I never felt rushed. Jackie was so responsive through every step and even when I had a couple questions pop up during our AMAZING trip. Will definitely use Hike the Way for future Camino adventures!

This is a review for the services to organize/plan our Camino Portuguese itinerary, not a guided trip. Sadly I was extremely disappointed. Our first 2 days were long walking days and included transfers and a time change that really stressed our group. We didn't realize the time would change within the first km of our journey. The transfers were arranged at an awful time to accommodate the # of km and the time change. This left a lasting mood on our trip. This being my first camino it was still clear that our trip was poorly organized. I would not use this company again and can not recommend them.

Thank you for your open feedback and we are sorry that your experience wasn't great. Yes, Portugal and Spain are in different time zones so when you cross the border during your walk, you lose an hour. I understand that we should have communicated this and that having one less hour to cover the distance made your experience stressful, so I want to apologize for that. We'll take your feedback into account and plan for shorter stages on this route in the future. We are glad that you were able to complete your Camino journey successfully despite this initial challenge, congratulations!

Jackie of Hike the Way assisted me with customizing our Camino (French Way) from Leon to Santiago de Compostela. We elected to have hotel/pension reservations for each night, and to ship our bags from each hotel/pension to the next. The accommodations were lovely, clean, and perfect for our needs. The bag transfer went off without a hitch.
I highly recommend Hike the Way to anyone who is considering a Camino experience.

Walked on the Camino with my 17 year old daughter for 8 days (from O Cebreiro to Santiago). Hike the way made the experience free of guesswork and very low stress. While planning the trip, Jackie was so quick to respond and helpful with any questions I had. The accommodations were all very satisfactory- clean and comfortable. I would definitely use Hike the Way again- in fact already thinking of walking another part of the Camino with my hubby! This was a great experience to share with my daughter- we will have so many great memories from our time on the Camino!
