Built in the latter half of the 1st century CE under Emperor Vespasian it is remarkably well preserved given its vintage.
It comprised numerous buildings including a Temple and remained in use till the 5th century. A gorgeous Corinthian Capital atop a column is outstanding.
Onsite is a monument to the prime excavator of the treasured site.
At a previous Roman attraction we had bought the combination ticket that covered entry into four of the major Roman sites in the city including here.

The remains of the Provincial Forum of Tarragona is situated away from the Old Town (where there are the remains of another forum) - this forum dates from the time when Tarragona was made capital of the whole Roman province. You will see remains of a basilica, temples and shops. Included in the combination ticket of Tarragona attractions

Not far from the Mercat Central and right in the middle of a dense residential/commercial neighborhood; pay the entrance fee, it’s worth exploring.

Not as impressive or as intact as the other Roman sites in Tarragona but seems less visited and not as crowded. This allowed us to linger and really imagine ourselves in the forum and the other ruins. Its the middle of a neighborhood and surrounded by apartments but that doesn't diminish the experience. Recommended.

We visited this as part of the combined ticket and it is quite a walk from the others. I wish we hadn't have bothered. Nor should you pay €3.30 - if you pay just to visit this as I think you'll feel robbed. There are 4 pillars standing which is good for a quick photo but there is virtually nothing left to see apart from that.
The signs are quite dull and though they paint some picture of what was there, it is now too much of a stretch of the imagination to picture it with just the odd few stones facing you.

A real gem for anyone interested in history. Plenty of signs to give information about the building. Cheap entry fee also which is always good. Amazing views of the town from the top and theres an elevator for those not brave enough to face spiral stairs. Not open on a Sunday-very little in Tarragona is so avoid visiting on that day if you can

This Roman archaeological site has an area of 18 hectares. Together with other Roman remains in the city it makes the Archaeological Ensemble of Tarraco, which was listed in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 2000.
The area was built starting in 73 AD, by the order of Emperor Vespasian, and remained in use until the 5th century. The worship area is now occupied by the Cathedral.
Today, the square Placa del Forum is the centerpiece of this area. You can find here the remains of the ancient wall.

Called in at Tarragona on the way to Valencia. Followed signposts to the historic centre and enjoyed an hour walking through the old streets, ending up at the Forum. We wish we'd had more time here as there looked to be lots of historic things to see.
