Do a tour with viator and see this along with winery. Just a great way to spend 7 hours and goes very smooth. We got to do a liquor tasting and a wonderful market with cheeses and also a cool hike at Montserrat.

Everything about this visit is worth every penny. Loved the train ride there, the funicular, the visit of the church, and the museum was the biggest treat of all! It is so well curated and easy to visit. Not a maze like so many museums...More

About 45 minutes train ride from Barcelona.A little tricky to find the right train and to purchase the right ticket. Allow plenty of time to be up in the mountain. Since it was winter the funiculars from the monastery to the very top of the...More

Must do when in Catalonia, very nice countryside with great views. We parked the car further away to avoid traffic jam and long waiting hours. It’s perfect for a hike to enjoy the country side. A bit of effort required, however worth your while. Bring...More

This is a must for all who really own the significance of the monastic tradition to Western civilisation and also spirituality. Definitely go at a time outside the high season and enjoy the tranquillity of this deeply moving place.

Was a lovely experience and great day out of city. Loved the cable car ride and funicular. Added bonus the choir sang at 1pm in monastery which was beautiful. Worth the effort👍👍

Very nice monastery located at the top of a hill just outside Barcelona. The temperature on this day was about 5° F, so it was really, really cold and hard to get a decent look at the outdoor surroundings. However the indoor decor was incredible...More

As I sad, is a must to visit Montserrat! It’s easy to get there from Plaça de espanya! With the train and then with the cable car or funicular! The views are awesome!

Troodos Day Trip (12 Replies)
We'll be in Paphos at the end of the month and looking at doing an independent day trip from there up to the mountains. We'll be in our own rental car. The main destination is Kykkos Monastery, but I wanted to get some input on where else to go, in what order, and suggestions on nice places to stop for meals and snacks. I've looked at package day trips that include places like Chrysoroyiatissa Monastery, Omodos, Tzelefos bridge, Foini, as well as Mt Olympos and Troodos town. I wouldn't...More

You can go on from Kykkos Monastery to Archbishop Makarios's tomb as that is quite close. https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Attraction_Rev… There is a cafe near the car park for the monastery - the food is OK but the views from the back of the cafe are stunning. From Kykkos you can drive through the mountains to the top of Troodos and then down the mountain to Platres, where if you have time you could walk the Caledonia falls. From Platres you can drive through the wine region to Paphos....More
Spend more time in GAP, Mittenwald, Berchtesgaden, or...? (2 Replies)
Hello. We have the better part of a day to drive from GAP to Salzburg in mid-May. We will have already been to Linderhof and the Ettal Monastery and now need to figure out how to divide our time as we drive toward Salzburg. We were planning on driving through Innsbruck and then A12 to Loferer Str./B178, B21 and B20 to Berchtesgaden. I would love opinions about which towns along this route TA members enjoyed the most. We love beautiful landscapes and vistas, old architecture, winding...More

Hello, Mittenwald´s Church and the violin museum are worth looking at and Innsbruck is worth a full day tour, especially the Old Town and Museum near the Ski Jump! But don´t bother with the Eagle´s Nest,it really is a waste of time and the bus trip to the top costs more than a visit to Neuschwanstein Castle!Hitler´s Cafe was destroyed totally and the only thing that is original is the tunnel and lift to the Cafe,It´s only worth visiting for the view in nice weather or sentimental reasons If...More

How to get Katholiko Monastery from Chania by bus? (2 Replies)
Hi! Is it possible to get to Monastery and Avlaki Gorge by bus? We are going to be there in the middle of May. Thank you in advance for your help :)

And if the 06:30 bus from Chania to Agia Triada is a little too early and the 14:15 bus is too late, just catch the bus to the airport and walk from there. Walking from the airport to Agia Triada takes about one hour.
