All the focus is on the Monastery at Montserrat, which was actually rebuilt in the 19th century. Santa Cecilia was built in the 10 century and it amazing to see the quality of the work that has stood the test of time, against the dramatic back drop of the highest peak at Montserrat. Definitely worth the visit.

Santa Cecilia is a restored 10th Century Romanesque monastery that sits on a spectacular location on the back side of the Montserrat massif, with stunning views up to the ridges of Montserrat and down to the river valley below. The site and church alone are worth visiting and can be reached by van from the Montserrat Monastery. The long and diverse history of Santa Cecilia (including a 1928 restoration by noted modernist master Puig i Cadafalch) is traced on a display near the entry. But there is more. Modern Irish artist Sean Scully has been given leave to decorate the entire church with works of his art, turning the interior into an "art space." The overall effect is both beautiful and serene. The site offers history, architecture, vistas and great art.

After visiting the Monastery at Montserrat we took a short stop here to admire the building. Beautiful setting and a very peaceful place.

Departed from Julia's Travel for hour and a half trip to the top of Montserrat in a small van. This trip let us explore the complex. We bought a ticket for the vernicular that took us to the top to get a great view of the surrounding area. We were provided a brunch of tapas which I did not find especially yummy.

How do you reach Santa Cecilia by public transport? Or do we need to take a taxi?

There did not appear to be public transport to this point although there is to Monseratt. We used Explore Catalunya ( food and wine tour with brilliant guide Joseph in a small mini van) and this worked well
