One of the streets of the city, along which it is curious to walk. There is beautiful architecture here, there are shops for shopping lovers, and for food lovers like me, there are cozy cafes.

The Rambla of Girona is pretty much the same idea as La Rambla of Barcelona, i.e. a pedestrianised street full of cafes, restaurants and shopping. Although the Rambla here in Girona is not quite as insane as that in Barcelona and here you get to walk along the riverfront. Nothing amazing (the one in Barcelona isn’t amazing either!), but worth a walk if you have time to spare in Girona.

We stayed in a 2nd floor apartment along the Rambla de la Llibertat which is the main thoroughfare into the old section and one of Girona's busiest streets. We loved the whole experience. After the pace of Madrid it was such a relaxed and comfortable place to stroll along or as in our case sit at our first floor balcony with some local wine and cheese and watch the world go by. While we were there we saw from our balcony diners and shoppers, local children playing, locals chatting, delivery men going about their business and even a percussion band moving through the street to a loud and strong beat. The lack of tacky tourist shops was also to be noted. In a word - Excellent

You can compare with the famous street in Barcelona, is very different, La Rambla de La Libertad is the main street inside the old town, the touristic quarter of Girona.

Very nice relaxing few hours in Girona strolling through this Ramblas and other nearby avenues and plaza, very welcome escape from the hectic coast (stopping in Lloret).

Running parallel to the river, the Rambla is lined with shops and restaurants and is a good entry point into the smaller streets of the old city. On the day were there, there was a kids toy festival in progress with all sorts of large wooden play toys for kids to try; made for great fun watching the kids play. We didn't find it to be overly crowded but had a nice vibe to it.

We visited Girona for the first time and we decided to stay in the old section where the "wall" of Girona is situated.

There is a ton of history here as well as film location for the popular HBO show Game of Thrones.

Activity Suggestions:
*Breakfast at La Fabrica
*Day 1: navigate the wall of Girona
*Day 2: visit the Cathedral and the famous Jewish quarter
*Day 3: rent a car and head to Begur (Costa Brava) and go for a swim and hike.
*Day 4: relax and walk the promenade and get lost in the town passages

Coming from Canada, we thoroughly enjoyed our 4 days here.

This is one of the most important urban parts of the old town. This area gets its name from the tree was planted in the center of the square in 1869. It follows along the river, and is the entrance to the historic center. It's one of the busiest streets in the city surrounded by beautiful terraces, squares, courtyards, umbrellas which provide shade for the many tables outside restaurants and cafes, and which line the street providing rest and comfort. Have fun and enjoy a coffee, or lunch, and take time to rest from all of your sight seeing in the old town. A must see when in Girona.

I had only one overnight in Girona, and I tried to get to as many sights as I could in a short time. Somewhere in the late afternoon, when I realized that try as I might, I wasn't going to get to three more museums today, I slowed my pace. It began at Placa Independencia, elegant and symmetrical, then I crossed back over the river and found myself on the Rambla. Ahhh...

I've been to Barcelona twice now, and walked that very famous Rambla as well, but I don't think I could call it a stroll - busy, busy, busy - people in a rush, bumping into one another - exciting perhaps, but no, not a stroll.

Like Barcelona's walkway, Girona's is shaded by trees, so even on a rather warm afternoon it was pleasant, and while other people were strolling as I was, I never had the feeling of being crowded or rushed. It was a splendidly lazy half hour or so I spent, and it was wonderful.

I'm going to include what I consider a hot tip, but which TripAdvisor cannot seem to believe exists (at least I can't review on it because they don't know of it - I'll attach a photo, as its sort of Modernismo front was what first attracted me tp it. Torrons i Gelats Candele, on the left as you walk towards Placa Catalunya, is charming to look at and its gelato is delightful to taste. I ordered a cone of chocolate and pistachio from the very friendly young woman who served me, sat out at one of their outside tables and even more than before enjoyed relaxing on the Rambla.

If you go to Girona - and you should (I've been writing that in every one of my reviews of the city, sorry if it sounds repetitive, but I'm right) consider a stroll along the Rambla de la Libertad - you'll soon find yourself...at liberty!
