Running adventure of a lifetime
Jul 2015
We just finished a fabulous 7 day running adventure with Costa Brava Running and I cannot stop gushing about it to everyone who will listen. The husband and wife team of Pablo and Cristina will treat you like family, welcoming you to share their knowledge and joy of running and living in Catalonia. Cristina was very responsive and patient with emails, responding to our questions and requests. Everything went so smoothly with her support. She even took the time to find a qualified massage therapist that would be willing to take on last minute clients who were in desperate need. Pablo was absolutely incredible as our guide. His positivity is infectious as is his love for running and people. While we were presented with a general plan for each day, Pablo was quick to adapt depending on our needs. This sometimes included starting earlier to avoid the heat, stopping for a mid-morning coffee break in a quaint village, or adding or taking off distance depending on how we felt. Our tour led us through the majestic Pyrenees, through ancient villages, along Roman paths and traced the stunning coastline of the Costa Brava. The scenery was incredible and we were rewarded each evening with delicious tasting menus from local restaurants sourced out by Pablo and Cristina. This was definitely a trip with memories for a lifetime… though I am certain we will be back again for more. Do bring: camera/phone, hydration vest (Camelbak), sunscreen, and of course your running shoes- though Pablo will say that barefoot is just fine :)

Great trails through lots of varied landscapes. Forests, fields, and historic towns while inland. Bluffs, beaches, and beautiful coves along the water. On the last day, we ran through a section of restored coastline (restored from old Club Med) where Dali found inspiration from the rocky landscape. I was blown away.

Ran 10-15 miles a day... ~3 hours. Leaving plenty of time for exploring the towns where the hotels were located. It was a good mix of activity and relaxation. Made it easy to deal with the jet-lag.

We ran this in the winter and sometimes didn't finish until after the restaurants closed at 3:30pm... so only beer and tapas for lunch... but I would imagine that in the spring/summer/fall you would start earlier and finish in perfect time for lunch.

Dinners were great... usually eating at the hotel. Wine was great.

I would recommend planning extra time in Girona before and/or after your run.

Seven Day Running Trip

This is a great way to see one of the most beautiful parts of Spain. Our guide took us from the Pyrenees mountains through Girona and down to the coast. The scenery was fantastic as was the food and the accommodation. This area is dotted with small well maintained ancient villages that are connected by beautiful mountain passes. Our guide and his wife were fantastic hosts who loved to show us the best of Catalan culture and heritage. I would highly recommend this trip to anyone who enjoys fun + running + food + scenery.

Girona, lovely town to visit.
May 2014 • Couples
We went to Girona for the day on the train quite cheaply when we were staying in Pineda de mar.
Easy journey, the historical town centre walking distance from the train station. It is a charming town, not too big to visit for the day. A river runs through it and it has a lovely imposing cathedral, a castle and medieval walls that circle the town. You get lovely views from there of the town itself and the mountains in the distance. The old town has lovely pedestrian avenues lined by big trees giving good shade in hot days, and elegant buildings, plenty of coffe bars and restaurants to sample local home made , tasty food. The back streets have narrower alleys with pictoresque buildings. A lively, colourful town which you can visit for the day.
