Too Much on display

Unless your doing a BA in film.... you'd be lost on what there are hundreds of cameras and paraphernalia... the interactive pieces were great though... and there was an exhibition of female actresses on the ground floor too.

This is a world-class and stunning exhibition

You start on the third floor and work your way down to the ground floor with each floor revealing new secrets about the art of cinematography. It is a seamless experience and one that you will never forget. The next tie I'm in Girona this will be the first place I will visit again.

This museum was a delight to spend two plus hours wandering around the exhibits and slideshows took one back to a time of wonder before the coming of the television. If in Girona take a point of visiting you will not be disappointed.

Particularly good on the origins of cinema

We spent a good couple of hours in this fascinating museum. The route through is well designed and the exhibits are imaginatively displayed with many fun interactive aspects. The museum explores human beings’ fascination with shadows, light and images, and showing the contraptions and techniques that have captured them through time. The only let down was in the final room, where clips and posters of relatively recent films were shown. Considering this is a Spanish museum there was a distinct lack of examples of Spanish cinema. Also, any person of colour visiting must feel horribly under-represented to the point of erasure. This seems something that would be easy to put right in order to make this a five star experience.

GREAT Museum for every age

Interesting film museum. Lots of history, photos, exhibits. They have original equipment, cartels, etc. Self tour start with a short video and just follow the arrows and you will have a great time, specially if you like movies. They deserve a lot of credit for putting together a lot of information. They also have a small shop that you see before exit. Do not miss this museum in Girona.

Interactive attraction with wide info especially about European cinema.

Museum is interesting for people with very different level of knowledge. Touches all aspects of cinema, history, stats, producers, directors, music. Depending on how important cinema is in your life could spend starting from an hour to all day there. I would say very special bonus is wide info on Europe’s cinema. Loved part devoted to Fellini. There is a lot of funny interactive activities even for small kids who don’t know anything about history of cinema.

The history of filmmaking museum was around the corner from our hotel. We were pleasantly surprised about the extensive size of their collection of the evolution from still pictures to motion pictures with thorough explanations. Highly recommend!

Probably the best in Europe

I was amazed to visit this museum and find out all the treasures it shows, from the very beginning of Photography's History, going through all the 19th century, until the first films arrive. I had never seen, in Paris, London, Lisbon, Rome, etc., such a magnificent collection of techniques and such wonderful machines.

A true gem and a must see place

Honestly, I liked this museum way more than the art museum and the tour through the cathedral.
There's so much thought put into the three floors of the cinema museum - lots of moving stuff, interactive models of camera obscura and various optical illusions placed throughout the entire path, different cameras, projectors and so much more.

I felt like a kid thanks to this museum and I didn't want to leave. If you like cinema and at least just a bit interested in how static images evolved into what cinema is right now, just go for it. You won't be disappointed.

Just make sure that you have at least a couple hours for the visit. Time flies by in this place :)
