Jan 2024 • Family
In January 2024, my family and I were enchanted by the vividly painted facades of the Casas de l’Onyar, which overlook the Onyar River. The reflections in the water added a picturesque charm, making it an ideal spot for photography. We loved exploring the historical buildings and bridges, including the Gómez bridge and the Palanques Vermelles bridge by the Eiffel company. Casa Masó, one of the iconic houses, was a highlight of our visit, and the unique shops and cafes along the river added to the experience.

You almost feel transported to Venice, with all the seaside houses all the way to the river bank and all the little boats that cross from one district to the other. Due to the drought, small green islands have appeared here and there
In the morning, the cathedral is perfectly reflected in the water

City separated by the river Onyar where it is very nice to stroll through charming little streets. Very nice building
The must-see spot is the magnificent cathedral with its stunning views of the valley and mountains.
There are beautiful decoration shops, clothes, chocolate ice cream parlours, nice bars on pretty squares.
Place to discover near the border.

The river flows through the center of Girona. It's not interesting in and of itself. Beautiful views will delight due to the interesting architecture along the banks of the river. Plus, there are many different bridges from which many interesting angles open up.

Possibly the most photographed River in Catalonia is the River Onya with it's many brightly painted houses of the riverfront. I think the best place to get photos of these colourful houses is between the bridges of Pont de Pedra and Pont de Feliu, which look just like the photos of the Girona tourism posters :-).

Lets just be correct here, this review is for the RIVER not anything else, so keep it all about the river.

It needs more water. It was pretty low in August. The river is clean indeed for a large European city and the birds and fish you can see add up to its charm but the most attractive feature is the buildings and their colors. Perfect place for photos, of course a few attached.

Other than that...its just a small river and you will see it one way or the other...

This features on most of the photos of Girona given the river runs right through it and is surrounded by the colourful houses and crossed by a number of bridges including the Eiffel bridge. You sort of can’t miss it if in the old town.
The times of day provide a whole range of photo opportunities as the light changes

The Colored houses of Onyar are the main postcard of the city and we stay hosted in a apartment in the Rambla de la libertá, very close of the Casas de Onyar. Actually the Onyar River was very dry and we saw the same in Besalu, I really don't know if is the same river, maybe is something seasonal, anyway the houses are more beautiful at the photo.
