In the afternoon the many coloured buildings seem to glow with the sunlight on the windows and brickwork, and the river is beautiful with lush water plants and clear water. All the bridges are different, and have their own history. Good for taking photos.

Nice, scenic river with plenty of fish (mullet I believe) and ducks. Peaceful and relaxing. Runs through the city so you can walk along, crossing the various bridges as you go.

The river is nice and clean. We saw plenty of fish there. The buildings on the river are quite interesting, reminded me on Florence and even a bit of Venice. There are several pedestrian bridges connecting the old city with another bank.

Stunning river through the centre of Girona, with some great photo opportunities. We criss-crossed the river over the many bridges to get a perspective on both sides and the river itself. Full of fish, clearly visible from the bridges. Lovely way to spend a couple of hours (and plenty of watering holes along the way!).

Plenty of places to cross and view the fish but when we were there it was very hot so they were sluggish. The red iron bridge has featured in films.

Passing quietly (at least while we were there) thru Girona, the river effectively divides the old from the new. Walking across the small bridges that span the river produces views of the old and color buildings on both sides (a sunny day is best) and photos are to be had. We agree with other reviewers who stated that the river... More

Personally, I think this wide (and shallow) river with the coloured houses on each side is a major distinction of this city. It is the divide between the old town and the new. It is another feature that makes Gerona what it is. The river is shallow, maybe only 2'-3' deep, and you will see some large carp swimming around... More
