I have an emotional response when I think about this holiday.. it was probably the most amazing thing I have ever done in my life... the scenery was sensational; the running was exciting and challenging; and the people were like none other. My partner and I did the seven day tour. The first day is a run around the city of Girona, and then into the nearby hills. We did about 28km, with a cumulative incline of around 700m. That was the toughest run. The next few days of running are from and through quaint villages, and Spanish country side (through fields and forest). Most of the week is then spent running along the rugged coast, exploring beaches, and clambering up sea side peaks. It is sensational. I have never seen coast line like this. Private beaches with no one around. It was amazing. At home, we run 11km easy, and we were worried that the distances in the tour (up to km) would be too much, and the inclines too much - but you loose yourself in the amazingness such that the distances don't matter. And we stopped along the way (and discovered Clara - a delishy beer and lemon drink). There were others on the tour both much fitter and faster, and slower, than us.... So...if you love life, love meeting new people, and love running - this is for you. Do it. The company is owned and operated by Pablo and Christina; Pablo does the running, Christina makes things run smoothly. Both are lovely warm people, who enjoy spending time with other good people. Everything ran like clockwork. You run in the morning to just past lunch, and then you have the afternoon/early evening to explore - before you have the inclusive meal. The food was good. And the accommodation was really good (some of the nicest I stayed in while in Spain). Some tips: Def take a hydration pack. Take some running snacks. Quick dry clothes are good (we washed our tops at hotels, and air dried things, so our quick dry tops were good). Load up on sunscreen. I found trail running shoes quite good, as the trails are somewhat sandy and a lot of loose slate type of rock.

I love running, especially trails, but this trip took running - and learning - to a new level. Pablo and Cristina make a great team and are very organized and thoughtful. Pablo's knowledge and passion for this area is truly impressive, and inspiring. Every route was well-planned and unique, never boring. There were wondrous sights and views, interesting historic landmarks and sites, comfortable accommodations, and excellent food experiences. I really couldn't ask for more in an adventure/active trip. The abilities of the group varied, but Pablo is skilled in making it all work out - amazingly so. I think he helps mold or change one's perspective on running, too, with how he talks about how we are meant to run and the way he models it without competition or striving, just enjoying. I would highly recommend this trip! The only thing I would add that is not incredibly positive is that I felt there could have been a little more information given before arriving. As the trip went on, I learned more about why Pablo and Cristina don't give a lot of info because it promotes flexibility, spontaneity, and even trust; however, I do believe most runners appreciate some itinerary, suggested packing list, expectations given up front. It would have helped me a little more in my trip prep, in coming from so far away.

I have traveled a lot - over 50 countries at last count. Some of my favorite trips were things like a gorilla trek in Rwanda or a private boat trip to see orangutans in Borneo. I was excited to have a running vacation, but I did not think it would compete with my highlights. I was wrong. Running through Costa Brava allowed us to see places we would never have otherwise seen. Ancient city walls, forests, mountains, pre-Roman stone villages, 6th century churches, the Mediterranean coast, the land of Dali's inspiration. Every day was different and spectacular. I ended the running each day by telling my wife, "This was a great day." We did the 7-day trip, but we cut a day to do it in 6-days. I was on the trip with my wife and another couple we were friends with. We were different speeds (especially by day 6) but it wasn't a problem. The days looked something like this: 8am: Wake up and have breakfast 10am: Be packed and ready to go. Our guide (We had Danielle who works for Paolo) meets with us. We sometimes run from the hotel, and sometimes drive to somewhere close by to start. He gets us set up on our GPS devices (which were very easy to use) and runs with us for ~10 minutes. Then he turns around and we are on our own. Noon: After a couple of hours of running (And stopping to see the sights) we meet up with our guide again. He has driven our gear to a natural break point and then run back to meet us. He runs with us to our daily 'picnic spot' where we either eat from the snacks he has packed (all included) or at a local cafe (where he usually treated us to simple drinks and bread with tomatoes) 1pm: We start running again on our second leg - same pattern as the morning 3pm: Guide meets us again and runs with us to our final destination. Still sweaty and tired, we find a cafe where we sit down and have a beer (sometimes two) and more bread and tomatoes. We talk about the day and the guide walks us through the plan for the next day. 4pm-8pm: We check into our rooms, shower and sometimes have a nap. Then we explore the new town we are in. 830pm: We eat at the earliest possible time for Spain. We've earned a fantastic meal. Crinstina has done a great job finding fantastic dinner places. The first and last dinners were particularly good. We did the trip in the off-season so many of their "first choice" restaurants were closed, but we were never disappointed with a meal (expect that the Paella restaurant they talk about on the website as a highlight was closed for the season on our trip...) 1030pm: Off the bed to do it all again. I can't stress enough how amazing the vacation was. Often times with guided trips I think, "I should have just organized this myself." or at least, "I couldn't have organized this myself, but now that I have done it once, if I ever come back I will organize it myself.". This was not a trip like this. No way we could have had the experience we had on our own. Worth every penny. One last comment: Cristina was very flexible adjusting the trip for us. We needed 6 days instead of 7 so she reduced the length (and the charge). The trip ran over New Years, which put the dinner cost that night outside the trip budget, so she just took off the cost of that meal and we paid for that dinner out of pocket. The trip was also a private trip. It was originally just my wife and me, but it was not problem to add our friends when they heard about it and decided to join. If you like running and are thinking about it, take the plunge. You won't be disappointed. (While all of us were runners, none of us were in particularly good shape at the start of the trip. Apart from my wife going to a running camp when she was in high school, none of us had every ran near the mileage we put out that week. We were all VERY sore at the end of the second dat, but then magically we started getting less sore with each additional day) [We did the trip as two couples. It doesn't give the option to choose two types on "sort of trip" so I am just selecting "Friends"]

We just finished a fabulous 7 day running adventure with Running Costa Brava and I cannot stop gushing about it to everyone who will listen. The husband and wife team of Pablo and Cristina will treat you like family, welcoming you to share their knowledge and joy of running and living in Catalonia. Cristina was very responsive and patient with emails, responding to our questions and requests. Everything went so smoothly with her support. She even took the time to find a qualified massage therapist that would be willing to take on last minute clients who were in desperate need. Pablo was absolutely incredible as our guide. His positivity is infectious as is his love for running and people. While we were presented with a general plan for each day, Pablo was quick to adapt depending on our needs. This sometimes included starting earlier to avoid the heat, stopping for a mid-morning coffee break in a quaint village, or adding or taking off distance depending on how we felt. Our tour led us through the majestic Pyrenees, through ancient villages, along Roman paths and traced the stunning coastline of the Costa Brava. The scenery was incredible and we were rewarded each evening with delicious tasting menus from local restaurants sourced out by Pablo and Cristina. This was definitely a trip with memories for a lifetime… though I am certain we will be back again for more.

Running with Pablo will change the way you think about running and how you run. Our group had a variety of ability and Pablo made sure everyone was taken care of. The organisation by Christina was top-class.
