Great walking tour of Girona with Juan-Marco (JM) . JM was a knowledge and enthusiastic guide . He shared lots of information about the city and its history and the 2 hours flew by . It was really good to have the tour delivered by someone who lives in and loves Girona . I would thoroughly recommend to any visitors .

Our family (5 adults, 2 kids) did the free walking tour, with Johnny as our guide. He was a phenomenal tour guide - upbeat, humorous and engaging. He was extremely knowledgeable about Girona, and kept the group involved by asking random questions, which was great becuase it kept my little nephew engaged in the tour. We were only in Girona on a day trip from Barcelona, so this was the perfect way to get some basic information about some of the most important sites in Girona and grab lunch before heading back. Note that, while the tour is free, you are expected to tip the guide at the end, because the guide is still working and you are getting a lot of knowledge in a 2-hour tour. If I were ever to plan an overnight or multi-day trip to Girona, I would gladly pay for one of the longer tours if I knew it was being led by John (though I am sure all the guides are probably great).

We walked Girona's old town during two hours. Started and finished at the same point. Our guide did not stop talking all the time pointing at the main touristic points but also at many small details, anecdotes of some movies or tv shows, historic highlights, etc. .. we enjoyed having such a different view of the city!

We have enjoyed quite a few “free tours” in the past – Toledo, Madrid etc – and have always tipped generously at the end, as you should.

So we were delighted to see a free English language walking tour was available for Girona as we were staying nearby. So we signed up and looked forward to the day!
The guide for the day was Ricardo. He started his tour at the meeting place where he recounted, in excessive detail, the origins of the city and its location. He continued in the same vein for the next two stops. By the time we had reached the Eiffel Bridge we could take no more and quietly slipped away.

Why?

The guide spoke quickly in a monotone voice and provided far more detail than was necessary or needed. He did not engage with his group nor did he interact with them. I have never seen someone less suited to a job.

Previous tour guides in other cities have been outward going, humorous, engaging, likeable people who delivered just the right amount of information to inform the visitor yet maintain interest.

How sad that this promising tour turned out to be such a disappointment!

Hello Rick, Thanks for your message. It's unfortunate that you didn't like the tour. You didn't have to leave two reviews on two different platforms, though. One would've been enough. We're sorry that you found the guide was giving "excessive detail". However, believe us when we say that we deliver just the right amount of detail. You might have some experience with quite a few free tours in the past. We have as well, and probably with quite a little bit more tours. It was very rude and childish of you to "quietly slip away" from the tour. The guide Ricard (not Ricardo) and the whole group were waiting for you in the next stop. Out of respect to the guide and the group, you should've told him that you were leaving. And, of course, bragging about it is, quite frankly, unfortunate at least. It is a shame as well that you could "take no more" only after two stops. Maybe, if you had given a chance to the guide, you would've ended up enjoying the tour, like other people who left reviews that you can find here (and on the very same tour as you). Also, bear in mind, for the next time you book a Free Tour elsewhere, as it seems you do often, that your sole booking costs us money that we pay to all the websites that send you there. Quietly slipping away is not only disrespectful but also makes us, literally, lose money. Thank you, Quimi, owner of Girona Explorers

I loved the tour, the histories and the knowledge that Josefina shared with us, it was a lovely experience. Girona is a beautiful city, with a lot of history and interesting places that are worth visiting. Their history pf independence is inspiring, thanks you Girona and free tours for making of this trip a memorable experience.

We did a Free walking tour of Girona and had John as our tourist guide. He was awesome. Very informative. He knows his history very well. My husband and a friend’s husband were Game of thrones fan hence John did not fail us in mentioning some of the film site of Game of Thrones.

Thank you John for making our visit to Girona a memorable one. If you are interested for a free walking tour, ask for John. He will never fail you…

Girona! Surprised by how much history is enclosed in the city.
Great tour, well paced and interesting.
Although not included in the tour, we followed the guide’s recommendation to explore the walls. Awesome view of the city.

We signed up for the 2hour free walking tour. Johnny was fantastic- full of energy and knowledge. One of the best guides we have had this trip so far. Highly recommend and he deserved the nice contribution we gave at the end as it was well deserved.
Great to see Girona with a guide to visit all the important sites and learn.

I just had the best tour with John! We were lucky to have a beautiful day, however John was so knowledgable at every spot and give us extra local info on the best places to eat, drink and other adventures!

As a women solo traveller, I felt safe, welcomed and loved every minute!

Thank you John!

We took a day trip from Barcelona to Girona. We got here by train and had signed up for a free walking tour with Girona Explorers. They separated the English tour from the Spanish tour. We walked through the main highlights across the city. Juan Marc was an excellent guide. He shared with us many stories and the history of the place. He took us to many places for great photos as well. At the end of the tour, he recommended excellent places to eat lunch or local snacks.
