About
Born to Cook is a hands-on cooking workshop located in the romantic El Born neighborhood, one of the city’s oldest quarters. We offer cooking classes and market tours for travelers looking to immerse themselves in the flavors of Catalan cuisine. Our trained chefs are excited to show you the secret’s of the city’s markets: where to buy the freshest fish, how to tell if a vendor is swindling you, which stall sells the freshest tomatoes. Once you’ve shopped, it’s off to the cooking school (located in the family home of Christopher Columbus!) for paella making lessons and professional chef’s tricks for an authentic Spanish meal. We also offer private classes. Contact us for more information.

Neighborhood: El Born / La Ribera
The labyrinth that is El Born becomes most apparent the moment you turn down one of its side streets. But this is one of the few labyrinths you might actually enjoy losing your way in. After all, there are few places that live and breathe such exciting energy regardless of the time of day. This neighborhood seamlessly transcends the old and new parts of the city, reflected in its vast array of restaurants ranging from fancy Michelin-star establishments to trendy fusion restaurants. Here you'll find historical and cultural attractions such as the popular Picasso Museum and the Gothic cathedral La Santa Maria del Mar, where you just might be able to catch a traditional Catalan wedding.

We had booked our excursion Born to Cook via Azamara cruise line
Nuria our chef at Born to Cook was absolutely wonderful today. We visited two local markets where food for todays lunch we bought . The actual cooking location is wonderful like a vaulted medieval castle . Nuria our instructor was amazing and made everyone feel completely relaxed and helped everyone in creating their part of the meal
I would highly recommend this experience for anyone looking to experience the joy of cooking and dinning on truly delicious local dishes
This was one of the best experiences ever for my wife and I a truly must do if you are ever in beautiful Barcelona

We had booked for the Market tour only and as we walked around with our guide we realised that there was also a cooking class following this market visit. The food we would be tasting and buying in the market would be part of the meal to be prepared and eaten in the cooking class.
It was a great decision to join the cooking class. We were all involved in the preparation and cooking of the 3 entrees, paella and dessert before we sat down to the meal.
After the market and before the preparation and coking we were offered drinks and appetisers - a nice touch.
We have been provided with the recipes and already my husband has organised a paella dinner. He has acquired the paella dish and insists that he is the chef ( fine by me!) so this has been an additional spin off from a most enjoyable experience

This cooking class was such a delight!
Our instructor Nuria made it such a fun evening filled with loughs, good wine, interesting and unexpected cooking tips, and great company. We were lucky enough to end up in a group of only 4 people so everyone had plenty of opportunity to participate, learn, and enjoy the food and drinks along the way. Additionally, the space is located in a rustic building in the charming area of el Born, very spacious and equipped with a modern and interestingly designed kitchen which make the whole experience even more enjoyable. Last but not least-the ingredients we were given to work with were such high quality that even if you are not the most skilled cook, and with the assistance of their lovely instructors you are bound to have a great dinner at the end.
Highly recommended!
Especial thumbs up for the unlimited wine ;)

My wife and I visited Barcelona and took a class at Born to Cook with Chef Nuria. It was really great! Very hands on. The tapas, pintxos, sangria were all amazing. It was also very nice to talk about local culture, politics, people, and of course food. Would highly recommend, especially the tapas class as you get to cook many different dishes over the course of a few hours. Of all our experiences during our visit to Barcelona, this was #1!

Born to Cook was a wonderful experience; highly recommend. I took the Barcelona Cook & Friends: A Tapas Cooking Class and Dinner, with Mano as the instructor. I was a bit late to the class (heads up, it's a bit challenging to find - the streets in El Born can be a bit tricky to navigate), but Mano was welcoming and had me jump right in. As a solo female traveler, it was great to meet other travelers & share a meal. All the people in this class were 20's-30's. Mano is a great instructor; divided up the tasks fairly, so that everyone had a chance to participate & contribute to the meal. I have a food allergy, and he was very cautious to ensure no cross contamination. We made sangria, several tapas (my favorite), chicken, shrimp, potatoes, and zucchini. A lot of food, and many options. Everything was fresh, authentic, & delicious! It was a great night, and I am SO glad a signed up for this class. A great experience that really stands out from my trip to Spain!

We had the best time at Born to Cook, Barcelona. Mano, our instructor, provided a very fun and instructive 3 plus hours. The location, in the center of The Born area of Barcelona, was spacious and clean. Wine, beer and non-alcoholic beverages were available. The Sangria that we learned to make was delicious. We learned to make three different tapas followed by a dinner of various dishes which included salted potatoes, shrimp, chicken, eggplant, topped off by a classic Crema Catalan for dessert. This is very enjoyable way to spend an evening and I highly recommend it!

We organised our Team Event here on Sunday and it was the best experience ever! We made 4 creative tapas dishes, had unlimited drinks and a delicious dessert. Manu was helpful and explained all the steps in a great way and he made us feel welcome.
The best dish we made was the Prawn Thai Curry but we also had the chance to make a salmon tartare which was beyond delicious. Highly recommend to all groups or friends wanting a fun day out together!

We actually did two different cooking classes at two different schools while we were in Barcelona. This one offered an amazing location in El Born, and spent a little more time in the market actually chatting with the vendors as we went. Great instructor and perfect cooking experience!

This was a spectacular and fun experience! My wife and I couldn’t have asked for a better cooking workshop experience. Chef Oriol was a wealth of knowledge and was very friendly and patient while instructing us on how to properly prepare our Catalan cuisine. The experience started at 10 a.m. and ended around 3:45 p.m. The class consisted of 10 people. They tell you it ends at 3, but obviously sometimes things take longer than expected; we were not rushed at all. We started the day by walking to Mercat Santa Caterina and tasting jamon, cheese, tomatoes, and lagostines. Chef Oriol gave us a plethora of information about the local food, and advise on how to select the best products. We also purchased the majority of the ingredients for our meal there. This was especially great for us because we made a paella, and fresh seafood is a must. We then proceeded back to the Kitchen (classroom) to begin our meal preparation. The venue was gorgeous and was well furnished. We all had the equipment necessary, and you are provided complimentary beverages (wine, water, coffee)the whole time while cooking and eating. This was a great environment to have fun, socialize with new people, and learn new recipes, and different ways to prepare food. I highly recommend Born to Cook. It was the highlight of our Barcelona experience.

Hi,
We are a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 kids) looking to book a cooking class mid-February. What is the cost for this class? Also, what kind of seafood is in the Paella?
Thanks

Hey there! Feel free to head to this page on our website with all our options and prices under the tab labelled cooking classes. There you can see all the variety of classes we offer!
As for the paella, we put shrimp, cuttlefish, mussels and clams. However, we are more than happy to accommodate and can sub out seafood for chicken or just vegetables.

Hi Helen I did my market tour and cooking class through Born to Cook and would recommend them. I contacted them through their website with the date I wanted and they responded promptly. There were two children ( similar ages to yours) in the class on the day I went and they seemed to enjoy it. Hope that helps.
