About
Born to Cook is a hands-on cooking workshop located in the romantic El Born neighborhood, one of the city’s oldest quarters. We offer cooking classes and market tours for travelers looking to immerse themselves in the flavors of Catalan cuisine. Our trained chefs are excited to show you the secret’s of the city’s markets: where to buy the freshest fish, how to tell if a vendor is swindling you, which stall sells the freshest tomatoes. Once you’ve shopped, it’s off to the cooking school (located in the family home of Christopher Columbus!) for paella making lessons and professional chef’s tricks for an authentic Spanish meal. We also offer private classes. Contact us for more information.

Neighborhood: El Born / La Ribera
The labyrinth that is El Born becomes most apparent the moment you turn down one of its side streets. But this is one of the few labyrinths you might actually enjoy losing your way in. After all, there are few places that live and breathe such exciting energy regardless of the time of day. This neighborhood seamlessly transcends the old and new parts of the city, reflected in its vast array of restaurants ranging from fancy Michelin-star establishments to trendy fusion restaurants. Here you'll find historical and cultural attractions such as the popular Picasso Museum and the Gothic cathedral La Santa Maria del Mar, where you just might be able to catch a traditional Catalan wedding.

Highlight of our trip
Jul 2021 • Friends
Absolutely amazing. Highlight of our trip. Stumbled upon this place while walking. Alex, the owner, took us to the market to select ingredients. We then went back to his kitchen and made paella along with authentic tapa dishes, such as patatas bravas. Alex did a great job explaining purpose of the ingredients. I walked a away with new technics and a new appreciating for Spanish cuisine.

Amazing cooking experience!
Jul 2021 • Family
Amazing Experience! You get to learn about the culture, food, and preparation for Spaniard cuisine. We were taken on a market tour to pick up our fresh produce before we started cooking. Alex explained how to pick fresh fish and produce. Alex was very personable and a great chef! Definitely recommend this experience!

A Magical Birthday Celebration!
Feb 2020
Nuria of Born To Cook in Barcelona helped make a magical Birthday celebration for our friend and colleague. We were a group of four and blended effortlessly with the other chefs. Nuria has a way of bringing out the best in flavors, seasonings, tapas combinations, cocktails and people. She was a wonderful host and instructor. We learned new techniques and sharpened some old skills. All the time we were chopping, smelling, tasting, sipping and laughing. What a delightful way to spend an evening!

The tour/cooking class you should choose over others
Feb 2020
Amazing experience, I would recommend it to everybody browsing through various market tour/cooking options.

Manu was a very insightful guide who had some kind of input or interesting personal experience behind every item at the market. It did not feel like we were being just led through the market, but rather truly walking through accompanied by a local friend.

Nuria was the our cooking instructor, and she was just as amazing! My girlfriend and I are personally terrible cooks, and we have no experience whatsoever, yet Nuria simplified the process and walked us through patiently. She tailored the instructions to us so that we understood it all, and for the class we did feel proficient! Then she sat and ate with us afterwards, and it was a great touch to finish the night.

Food is plentiful, you will be full both from the market tasting and cooking, and it ends early enough so that you can explore the city more afterwards!

Thank you guys again!!

Tapas cooking class
Jan 2020 • Couples
This cooking class was such a delight!
Our instructor Nuria made it such a fun evening filled with loughs, good wine, interesting and unexpected cooking tips, and great company. We were lucky enough to end up in a group of only 4 people so everyone had plenty of opportunity to participate, learn, and enjoy the food and drinks along the way. Additionally, the space is located in a rustic building in the charming area of el Born, very spacious and equipped with a modern and interestingly designed kitchen which make the whole experience even more enjoyable. Last but not least-the ingredients we were given to work with were such high quality that even if you are not the most skilled cook, and with the assistance of their lovely instructors you are bound to have a great dinner at the end.
Highly recommended!
Especial thumbs up for the unlimited wine ;)

Fabulous class for cooking and eating Catalan food
Jan 2020 • Couples
We had booked for the Market tour only and as we walked around with our guide we realised that there was also a cooking class following this market visit. The food we would be tasting and buying in the market would be part of the meal to be prepared and eaten in the cooking class.
It was a great decision to join the cooking class. We were all involved in the preparation and cooking of the 3 entrees, paella and dessert before we sat down to the meal.
After the market and before the preparation and coking we were offered drinks and appetisers - a nice touch.
We have been provided with the recipes and already my husband has organised a paella dinner. He has acquired the paella dish and insists that he is the chef ( fine by me!) so this has been an additional spin off from a most enjoyable experience

A great class and lots of fun
Jan 2020 • Couples
My wife and I visited Barcelona and took a class at Born to Cook with Chef Nuria. It was really great! Very hands on. The tapas, pintxos, sangria were all amazing. It was also very nice to talk about local culture, politics, people, and of course food. Would highly recommend, especially the tapas class as you get to cook many different dishes over the course of a few hours. Of all our experiences during our visit to Barcelona, this was #1!

Fantastic Experience! Fun & Delicious!
Jan 2020
Born to Cook was a wonderful experience; highly recommend. I took the Barcelona Cook & Friends: A Tapas Cooking Class and Dinner, with Mano as the instructor. I was a bit late to the class (heads up, it's a bit challenging to find - the streets in El Born can be a bit tricky to navigate), but Mano was welcoming and had me jump right in. As a solo female traveler, it was great to meet other travelers & share a meal. All the people in this class were 20's-30's. Mano is a great instructor; divided up the tasks fairly, so that everyone had a chance to participate & contribute to the meal. I have a food allergy, and he was very cautious to ensure no cross contamination. We made sangria, several tapas (my favorite), chicken, shrimp, potatoes, and zucchini. A lot of food, and many options. Everything was fresh, authentic, & delicious! It was a great night, and I am SO glad a signed up for this class. A great experience that really stands out from my trip to Spain!
