Avinguda Diagonal is a major thoroughfare in Barcelona. As I walked along the entire length of the road from Plaça de Francesc Macià to Monumental, it felt like a showcase of Catalan Modernism given the numerous examples of building built in that style on the road. In fact, Sagrada Familia is just to the north Avinguda Diagonal, near the Monumental subway station.
There's also plenty of cafes and restaurants to stop for a rest while admiring all the buildings.

A long avenue of shopping and entertainment
A long avenue with a selection of shops and restaurants for every taste.
There is everything for every taste. Just time and money.
Worth visiting family.

There is a special lane for the bikes and you can bike from beginning to end with no problems. It is a great place to visit when you're in BCN. I advise you to go by bike, by foot or just take a bus. There are great buildings around, historical building but also modern buildings.

I read that this was an exciting place to see things. It is basically a long straight road. It was ok to wonder down but nothing special.

Avinguda Diagonal is the widest and one of the most important avenues in Barcelona!
A wide tree-lined 11km long boulevard with interesting building and stores.
A lot of benches around the area for you to sit, relax and enjoy the atmosphere!

Worth going out of your way for.
We found ourselves on Diagonal having walked from where the cruise bus dropped us. We were walking to Sagrada Família and decided to walk along Diagonal. I’m so glad we did.
It’s a wide tree line boulevard with some truly gorgeous buildings. It rivalled the best in Paris. The traffic was busy at times but it did not spoil a very lovely walk.
With the amazing Sagrada Família at the end of our walk it was really lovely . Sagrada is not on Diagonal, but close.

Here is the newest part of Barcelona, at the end of the street there is a huge mall and amusement park. For the difference from the rest of the city, here it seemed very calm.

A beautiful tree-lined street if one needs to walk or even drive along it; however, it is not worth walking or driving along for the sake of it, there are more interesting streets such as Passeig de Gracia and La Rambla.

This is a pleasant tree lined boulevard that carries a lot of cross-town traffic and is unlike the streets in the old town. It is well-maintained and has a number of parks and garden areas and for a big city road it is surprisingly pleasant. There are some new modern shopping areas along the road and closer to the city there are some very good restaurants but you have to search for them.

Not all of Barcelona is dictated by the Vella. Apparently a need manifest for a cross town transportation corridor. In true Barcelona style, a wide swath was cut and then punctuated with exquisite architecture and sculpture.
