This is an amazing piece of art. It was made for the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games by American Pop artist Roy Lichtenstein. It is made out of concrete and ceramic. It is an abstract sculpture of a woman's head. The whole thing is covered in red, yellow, blue, black and white mosaic tiles! From a distance you would think you are looking at a painting. This is really interesting and is worth stopping by for a short time to admire it.

El Cap de Barcelona is a surrealist sculpture by Roy Lichtenstein. Although it looks very abstract, is clearly intended to be a female face with influences from Gaudi, Dalà and Picasso. One for surrealist fans I think.

There is a reason why half of the female's face is covered in dots. It was a hallmark element used by this American artist who did pop art "art." The translation for this work is: "The Head of Barcelona" and that looks about to explode.
This piece is very, very abstract but pays homage to Gaudi (use of tiles) utilizing concrete in the design.
it was created for the 1992 Olympics and continues to survive. It really does take a little one-on-one to figure things out and may well be appreciated a block away from the piece. Welcome the red polka-dots as a comic-book addition to the sculpture (as intended) and do not take it too seriously (as all pop art really does not expect form the viewer).
Anyway, it is a really fun piece and meant for a deviation from reality and the moribund art so often on display in the old art of Barcelona.

This work of art was visible from our room at the Hotel Duquesa.
Just like the nearby Lobster it was a large piece of artwork but the creator, Roy Lichtenstein, much more well known for his pop art style. Looking closely one can see it was also made using mosaic tiles which was a homage to Gaudi.
I read that it was repurposed from the Barcelona Olympics and mounted here for continued exhibition. hopefully it continues to be appreciated in its current location.

El Cap de Barcelona (1991–1992), "The Head of Barcelona" in English, is a surrealist sculpture created by American Pop artist Roy Lichtenstein for the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona.
It is perfectly visible thanks to its 15 meters high and 6 meters wide.

I'm not sure what this sculpture is trying to say. It didn't mean much to me. Walked by it randomly and decided to take a picture of it.

Beautiful scuplture that I didn't know it is a touristic attraction. It is right in the Port so if you go there you cannot miss it.

This is one of those weird looking modern sculptures that one can see from afar but cannot take ones eyes off it to take in what it is and stands for
It is worth seeing just to stand in awe at its size and design
