Very engaging guide and enjoyable tour.... we had 4 teenagers and he kept them interested for the whole of a three hour tour of modernist Barcelona, including several Gaudi sites and the Segrada. He contacted us before to see what we wanted to see and how long the tour should be and was adaptable to our differing needs. Thoroughly recommend Dan, he couldn't have done a better job.

I also had read Dan’s glowing reviews and can honestly write that our all day walking tour met all our expectations. Dan met us at our hotel exactly on time. The provided headsets were top notch allowing us to walk and listen without any difficulty. As native English speakers, it was very easy to understand Dan. He has a wealth of information about all the sites and neighborhoods of interest. I highly recommend touring Barcelona with him.

My wife and I just returned from Barcelona and to say that Dan "made" our trip would be an understatment. We spent a full two days with Dan who proved himself to be not only deeply knowlegeable about the history and culture of Barcelona, but more importantly expert at designing "tours" that were specifically designed to meet our specific interest. While we were interested in seeing many of the usual sights, we were more interested in exploring the city from the eyes of the local people and thorugh food. Our first day was spent getting a personalized tour of the city's "main attractions" as well as some lesser known sites, neighborhoods, and venues. As we are "foodies" -- and like to experience new places through local food -- we spent the entire second day on a highly personalized gastronomic food tour of Barcelona. We spent hours walking through markets, big and small, sampling the fares every step along the way. Dan also took us to both "well known" favorites (El Quim, Quimet y Quimet, etc.) and even more "off the beaten path" tapas bars (sorry, we promised him we would not publicize the names), with an obligatory local vermuth at most stops. At our request, Dan helped us explore higher end establishments as well as tiny inexpensive places that were not always in the best part of town but which specialized in one or two specific delicaces. We ended the second day in a food coma and now are relegated to living off the memories. Dan also helped us with restaurant selections for the remainder of our trip, every one of which was simply spectacular. Apart from our wedding day and the bith our children, it will definaitely go down as one of the best days we have ever had. Bravo Dan, you are a true professional.

We are very big on having experienced, licensed private guides wherever we travel, since we know, based on experiences we have had all over the world, (Sicily?Crete?Myanmar? South Africa?) that a good guide can make all the difference between a terrific experience and one that is just so so. Dan Wilde ("Our Man in Barcelona,")was, quite simply, one of the best and most knowledgeable we have ever had. We did a half day (mostly) walking tour with him that took us from the Gothic Quarter through many things Gaudi. His wound us around the winding streets of the old city, pointing out fascinating bits and pieces on every street. Gargoyles anyone? The Gate of Angels? Since we were interested in architecture, he took us to churches, houses, markets. We wanted to see something if medieval and Roman Barci, even though the history museum was closed on Monday. No problem for Dan as he whisked us through medieval courtyards and showed us roman remains hidden within a house, protected from the elements for 1000 years. Moreover, he did it with such humor and good spirit, thoroughly understanding that our preteen and teen granddaughters might need a little pick me up after several hours of touring. Best ice cream in Barcelona anyone? Yum!
We chose to do some of the standard sites (Sagrada Fmilia, La Pedrera) on our own the next day. (Dan had taken us through the Eixemple quarter and given us an amazing tour of the Passeig de Gracia modernest houses ending with the Casa Batllo ) Armed with the background Dan had given us, those sites were so much more interesting and impressive.
If you can swing it, I cannot imagine a better introduction to this most fascinating city than a tour with "Our Man in Barcelona." If we hadn't been with our granddaughters, we would definitely have booked a full day tour). Thanks for everything, Dan!! (ps. although he has lived in Barcelona forever, he is a native Brit, so no language issues.)

Dan came highly recommended by friends and family members who have recently visited Barcelona. We spent two half days with him touring the city. The first day, Dan took us to several Gaudi sights and brought them alive with his extensive knowledge and understanding of the architecture and history of the city. The second day Dan took us through the Born area and pointed out details we would have never understood on our own. We also visited two of Barcelona's incredible food markets where we sampled the wares of several vendors. Dan took us through the Picasso Museum and explained Picasso's early life in Barcelona and the city's influence on his work. Dan has tremendous knowledge of Barcelona and its history; his passion for this wonderful city is contagious and energizing. Dan shared lunch with us at one of his favorite "locals only" restaurants where we sampled the paella and other local dishes and wine. We can't imagine a more enthusiastic, friendly and perfect tour guide in Barcelona. We want him to visit us in the US! Thank you, Dan!

Dan was the perfect guide for our family of four (with two teen boys). He is knowledgeable, smart, entertaining and accommodating. He really brought Barcelona past and present to life for us, with wide-ranging historical facts, legends and perspectives on the city's Roman past, medieval era, Jewish quarter, Civil War, art, architecture and food. We had one day in the old town and Gothic quarter with visits to two food markets and a second day focusing on Gaudi. Seeing the Sagrada Familia with Dan was a real treat - it would be a fascinating site even without a guide, but with Dan we learned so much more about the building and its past (and future) than we would have on our own. Added plus - with Dan, we didn't have to wait on line. Our boys were skeptical about touring with a guide, but loved seeing Barcelona with Dan. Highly recommended and well worth the money!

Dan Wilde was a terrific guide, but he was much more than that. We hired Dan on the recommendation of friends. Before suggesting some tour ideas, Dan wanted to know what kind of interests we have, what we were interested in seeing in Barcelona, what kind of tour we would like. After some discussion via Skype, we decided he would first walk us through Sagrada Familia and he made this astonishing work of genius come alive by pointing out architectural details, explaining their historical and religious significance. He added insights and layers of meaning. We then took a taxi to the Gracia neighborhood where Dan explained the area’s fascinating history, pointed out structures of significance and helped us understand so much than we might have learned in an ordinary book. One highlight was visiting the market in Gracia, then a pork store where he taught us the difference between the various kinds of “jamon” by buying two kinds of namon and doing our own on-the-spot taste test, sampling from the paper wrapping on the street outside the store. We ended at a tiny tavern where we shared a drink and some anchovies. As mentioned, Dan did more than just guide us for a long and very full morning. His taste in restaurants around Barcelona is impeccable – and these are not the typical tourist spots. In fact, he tried to talk us out of visiting one or two of those spots filled with rambunctious tourists. Instead, he suggested places where the real Barcelona cognoscenti dines. In addition, when we said we were visiting Cadaques, he even had a wonderful restaurant suggestion there, as well. We had several amazing meals thanks to Dan. He added so much to our trip to Barcelona. For us, he was exactly what we needed to raise our experience several levels.

Dan Wilde was recommended to us for a personal tour of Barcelona. We requested a tour of "neighborhoods and markets" as that is our interest. He did a wonderful job of taking us through the city to see the history of the city and neighborhoods that are not on the beaten path. We also had a great lunch at a local foods type restaurant and got many tips of other places to eat at and see. He recommended a great book about the Spanish Civil War from a shopkeepers perspective. Highly recommend!!

We would have visited the Gaudi locations regardless. but with Dan’s three hour guided tour they became unforgettable! Even our dubious teenagers were captivated, with the youngest declaring the La Sagrada Familia to be more ‘awesome’ than the Grand Canyon! Thank you Dan we’ll definitely come back and do it again when it gets finished!
