    I definitely underestimated this attraction!
I'm not going to lie, I had very low expectations for the Magic Fountain. And I can admit that I completely underestimated this attraction. The fountain show is very impressive and beautiful to witness, especially when it's coordinated with music. Definitely put this on your Barcelona must-visit list!

Truly magical--just remember, size isn't everything!
Don't pay money for a trip here...just show up any time (preferably after dark) and wait til the show starts. If you go up the escalator and park yourself near the top, you'll have a great view of the show and still be able to hear the music. If you happen to be there when they perform Freddie Mercury singing Barcelona with Montserrat Caballé, you will never forget it. You can go to the You-T place to hear that particular piece of music, but hearing it in sync with the fountain "choreography" is absolutely magical! Yes, there are many larger fountains (Dubai, Las Vegas, etc.)...I've been to several and they are very cool, but this one truly is unique.

    Not on.
Barcelona brought in drought restrictions on 1st March which mean no fountains in the city are running at the moment. There are signs but people still sit around and wait to see, just in case (I waited for 2 hours on 9th March). Maybe the signs should be clearer that the fountain won’t be turned on specifically for the show.

    Wonderful Trip to Barcelona
We spent 5 days in Barcelona. It was an amazing place. All travelling resorts are located in the city centre. You can easily get there by metro or even on foot. There are a lot of impressive sightseeing places, such as Sagrada Familia, Park Güell, Casa Mila. Someone may worry the safety. But I felt quite safe there. The people are also quite nice and helpful. I highly recommend to visit there.

Architecturally not very beautiful and currently not operating
We walked by this fountain in the Montjuic area several times during our visit to Barcelona. It was constructed as part of the 1929 world exposition. It is quite large, with the Montjuic Palace (National Art Museum) as a backdrop. It is nondescript architecturally and does not contain any remarkable sculptural elements or Modernist features. In my opinion, is not worth going out of your way to visit. The fountain normally does not operate. According to a number of tourist information websites, there is a free water and light show, with hours varying depending on the season. In March, the show is supposed to happen at 8:00 pm Thursdays and Fridays. Based on this, we visited at 8:00 pm lastThursday. Hundreds of people were already there expecting a show. A group of amateur break dancers put on a performance and there were numerous vendors selling flying toys, drinks, and snacks. However, 8 o'clock passed and nothing happened with the fountain. By 8:30, the break dancers were finished and still no fountain show. People were starting to get impatient. We left. After we returned to our hotel room, I went to the official Barcelona city website and found out that the fountain has been shut down for some time due to the current drought emergency. The announcement was in Catalan and Spanish. There was no information about this on any of the websites frequented by tourists, and no sign posted at the fountain itself. It looks like the amateur performers and the vendors still depend on tourists showing up for the non-existent shows!! Naturally, we felt taken advantage of. In summary, you will undoubtedly see the non-operational fountain if you visit the Montjuic area for its other attractions, but it is not worth making a special trip. If you want to see the actual light show, make sure to check the official Barcelona city website or call them ahead of time to see if the shows have resumed and to check the current times. Don't rely on unofficial websites.

    Magic fountain area
The fountain is a beautiful area and would recommend for a wonder. The magic fountain is not operational at moment due to water restrictions. Don't be fooled by the amount of people who still sit on the steps and wait for the fountain show. There are large signs around the fountain advising it's turned off. The shopping centre at the bottom of the street has good shops and there is a viewing platform at the top of the arena, you get a great view of the area.

    Still not working
I'm very dissapointed that the fountain wasn't working, but it's understandable with the drought that catalunya is suffering. I'm just writing this review for people like me who didn't know beforehand to be informed that it's still bot working in may. Although the surroundings are still beautiful.

    They Will be Back Someday
This fountain and the ones around it were truly magical when they had water in them. But sadly, due to an extended drought and necessary water restrictions, the fountains were empty for our visit. So just empty concrete basins. They will be back someday.

With one of the few things that’s free in Barcelona, magic fountain is lined by both kids and the adults. To get suitable place to watch, reach at least 1.5 hours before the time. The seatings provided are ideal place and make sure that you avoid places very near to fountain unless you enjoy soaking in the water. With lot of lights, varying water formations and songs it certainly charms the kids and adults alike. But we did not feel any coordinated rhythm between the fountains and songs. They were quite independent of each other. In all, it’s a nice place to be with kids.

Magical fountain is really good but make sure to check the timing and day of display in advance. It changes from summers to winters and from day of the week to weekend. Do go there in plenty of time to get good view.

I visited the fountain for the first time 9 years ago during my honeymoon. We came back and it is still magical, beautiful light and music show at night. We went on a weekday, arrived early, there was a private function nearby and the light show started 1 hour early. We were able to sit and see the show before people started to arrive and crowded the area.

The show is very beautiful, so it attracts cents of people there. It can be viewed from some distance and it's really eye-catching. To cheer the public, the dancing waters in different colours is complemented by a playlist of nice pop/rock music and some traditional songs, according to festive dates. The surrounding area has a lack of structure, such as restaurant, cafe or bathroom. The alternative is Arenas shopping mall, about 500 m away. Its recommendable to arrive one hour before.

This is a great experience for both kids and adults. We had our daughter with us so she loved seeing and listening to the music and water dancing. Get their early to secure your spot. The show doesnt take more then 15-20 minutes. We went when there was a huge festival going on, so keep in mind that it might get very crowded.

The palace and the fountain are wonders to see even when the waters are not dancing to music. But it is worth hanging out to see the show (when we were in Barcelona, it was 8-9:00 on Thursday and Friday nights only). It was crowded, but we stood on the walking bridge so that we had a wide angle perspective of all the different fountains that were flowing. It was fun.

NOTE: We grabbed a bite on the roof at the Arenas de Barcelona (just down the street) while we waited for showtime. It is a shopping mall created in an old bull fighting ring. A fun spectacle in itself, but also terrific views from the roof.

I took our teenagers to see The Magic Fountain and it was heaps of fun and free. Basically it is a water, light and sound show free for everyone to enjoy. The music selection is wide and covers most languages and styles. We enjoyed some songs in English, Spanish and Italian Operettas. The fountain display changes with the music, so you see lots of different colours and combinations of water fountains. Visiting it at night was a short walk for us and we got a great spot looking up to the Museum. We tried to visited the museum today but it was shut so spent some time walking around the area. The fountain looks different in the day and it seems bigger in daylight. There were families, couples everywhere.

We really enjoyed the light show. It's free and if you get there a little earlier you'll get a good position. We discovered that if we stood too close to the fountain we got quite wet from the over spray. The show lasts for an hour, which is probably a little too long, but we did really enjoy it.

I was so excited to see this. I went there and waited, alongside around 100 others, as the information said the show would start at 9pm. Nothing happened. The water wasn’t even running. The worst thing is, this information wasn’t made available and there was no staff there to talk to. Was left very disappointed.
