My partner was very skeptical that I had scheduled time in our itinerary for a "Magic Fountain," let alone the fact that I had us arrive over an hour before the show began to get a "good seat." We actually arrived several hours before the show and wandered the MNAC area at sunset, gorgeous views! Then we found a great seat and enjoyed chatting and watching the area fill as the show neared. This is not your ordinary fountain, the lights and music truly make it a unique and free experience. If you are in Barcelona when the Fountain is active, take a few hours to slow down and enjoy this fountain!

This show is a program that should not be missed during a visit to Barcelona! Dance of water and light! The show starts at about 9 pm and lasts for about an hour and a half. If you want to find a seat, you should come here at least an hour earlier. Before the show starts, street artists perform programs such as dancing, singing, acrobatics and....

Due to COVID the fountains weren’t turned on we had climbed to the top not entirely sure where the fountain was. Luckily the view was great, even without the fountain being off. There was a guy up there playing piano who was sarcastic to anyone that didn’t give him euros. We didn’t have any cash at the time otherwise we would have given him something because he was very good. But being ridiculed as we left for not having euros on us wasn’t the best.

I was so excited to see this. I went there and waited, alongside around 100 others, as the information said the show would start at 9pm. Nothing happened. The water wasn’t even running. The worst thing is, this information wasn’t made available and there was no staff there to talk to. Was left very disappointed.

Giving it 3 stars because I had seen similar fountains which are a lot more impressive like the one in Xi’an and Dubai.

But it’s free and it starts from 9 pm and ends at 10 pm. Very crowded and if you want to get a good seat on the stairs, do go early.

You can also do dinner at the nearby Arenas de Barcelona.

With one of the few things that’s free in Barcelona, magic fountain is lined by both kids and the adults. To get suitable place to watch, reach at least 1.5 hours before the time. The seatings provided are ideal place and make sure that you avoid places very near to fountain unless you enjoy soaking in the water. With lot of lights, varying water formations and songs it certainly charms the kids and adults alike. But we did not feel any coordinated rhythm between the fountains and songs. They were quite independent of each other. In all, it’s a nice place to be with kids.

Obviously, the magic fountain is a spectacular display of color, light, motion, music, and water acrobatics. The magic fountain has 4,760 lights in total that make a spell-bound effect on the audience. The first show went on air in 1929. So, attending the show, became a must-do activity for every tourist who comes to visit Barcelona. Above all, it is a free event and you can visit this show every day, except Monday.

It’s an amazing display from the fountain and the various water features surrounding but it does get very crowded and had been made aware of that from reading various reviews. Because of the crowds we elected to sit outside the National Museum of Art of Catalonia looking down onto the main fountain and some of the other water features. The two main disadvantages were that the music to go with the show can only be heard nearer to the main fountain and we were bombarded with street sellers selling mainly bottles of water and soft drinks yet just behind us was a kiosk selling what the street sellers were selling plus other things. I can only assume that these street sellers are illegal and instead of enjoying the show was being constantly harassed by these sellers with no evidence of anyone policing them. We did see the first part of the show again the following night near the fountain where we could hear all the music clearly but was very crowded the other downfall is that we couldn’t see the display as well as we did on the previous night.

We rode Metro Line 1 to Placa de Espanya. What a busy place in evening traffic! We walked to the Font Magica de Montjuic and having arrived early, found seats directly in front of the fountain. A group of young men put on a dance show as we waited and passed their hats for donations. Gradually the fountain began to send up sprays of water and the lights came on as a delightful show set to music – rock for the first part and classical for the second part – began. It was fun to watch the changing patterns of water, light, and music, and we enjoyed being out among families and tourists alike on a beautiful autumn night. We left before the show ended, hoping to beat the crowds on the Metro, and enjoyed strolling along the fountain-lined avenue leading back to Placa de Espanya and seeing the lighted Arenas de Barcelona, which once served as a bullfighting arena but is now filled with shops and restaurants.

Magical fountain is really good but make sure to check the timing and day of display in advance. It changes from summers to winters and from day of the week to weekend. Do go there in plenty of time to get good view.
