Neighborhood: La Rambla
Barcelona's most famous street was once a dry riverbed. Now, La Rambla is a 1200-meter boulevard, and a major draw for visitors. During the day, La Rambla fills with pedestrians, some of which stroll past impressive human statues and artists while others take a break to people-watch while enjoying a drink at one of the many terraces. Housed here is the iconic Boqueria Market that offers one of the most varied and appetizing selections of local produce and specialty meats and treats. While it’s important for tourists to keep an eye on their belongings at all times, this area is most safely explored in the daytime and is a must see for everyone who visits.

It is a cheap looking market, it could have still a charm, but the neighborhood area seems very dirty and dangerous. First time I felt a bit unsafe walking alone in Barcelona /daylight)I don't think it's worth a trip. It is a bit like Smithfield (Gorton, Manchester UK) Market.

Went admittedly late on a Friday afternoon as most of the stores were closed so managed to try 3 - one for cured meats, one for prepared food and one by the entrance for nuts. Of the 3 only the cured meats one (by the back) was decent - we bought 4 croquettes to go, all different flavors, quite tasty when reheated later. The prepared foods next to it was poor - they must have used rancid oil in their fried food. The nuts stall at the entrance sold us marcona almonds that were not fresh. I would not recommend this market.

I've already written a review of Casa Blanca, an awful restaurant in this market. Unfortunately, the market, itself, is also disappointing. Many stalls were closed, and the whole atmosphere was depressing. Sometimes going where the locals go doesn't pay off.

Certainly not at all like la Boqueria and in what can be a fairly dodgy area u less you like elderly prostitutes and the odd addict. Gritty I think you call it . If you really want to see a decent Barcelona market that’s not as touristy as the aforementioned then for me I suggest you try Mercat del Ninot which is fair nicer and has that local vibe

After seeing the crowd outside of the Mercado de la Boqueria on La Rambla, we knew we were never going to make it inside and enjoy a visit. So, we skipped it. Then the travel gods directed us one random morning to Mercado de Sant Antoni. It looks like an old train station from the outside. Once you walk in, your eyes are met with the smells and sounds of beautiful stalls offering the freshest and most local foods in the neighborhood. My husband and I had a 3-course lunch for 10 euros and then enjoyed champagne with AMELIE oysters (oh my god!!! So good!) for dessert. We also stopped at different stalls to try olive skewers and the seasonal fruits. No crowds, no lines, no noisy rumblings of tourist mobs. I almost didn’t submit this review to keep the place as low key as possible.

The market of the San Antonio is a great place to visit because of the beautiful building itself and as well because of the quality and variety of the products offered: fish of all sorts, beautifully vegetables and fruits, nuts, local food , meat and Spanish charcuterie . The products are of high quality and the price us very reasonable compared to the Boqueria Mercado along the Rambla.
We stayed in this neighborhood and shopping our fresh ingredients every days in the San Antonio and in some organic shops .
A long the Carrer Dell compte Urgell there are plenty of bars , shops, restaurants to hang out.
If you like ice cream one of the best is : Sirvent homemade and qualitative products with various flavors. They serve also amazing healthy fresh juices !
In the Carrer Del parlement pkrnty if bars and restaurants to go out full of young local people a very nice place to walk in the evening. We tried el dynamic and Domo restaurants , delicious food, in an enjoyable place .
We had dinner also in the typical Can Luis restaurant (Carrera de la Cera) see my review on this! There is also Cera23, top culinary food in a strange street for a nice price...
And many other nice places we liked in this neighborhood every evening we went out.

Enjoy!

Beautiful nice building which was recently renovated in a very elaborated way.

It is clean and has very friendly people selling their excellent selection of fresh food (meat, fish, seafood, vegetables, fruits...).

More locals doing their shopping here than tourists who don't get out of your way!

It's possible to have a quick snack, can recommend "Pep" for a nice ham-sandwich (different qualities&prices available) and an ice cold drink like "cava", wine or beer served by friendly girls.
