About
Designed by the British architect Richard Rogers, in collaboration with Alonso Balaguer-Arquitectos Asociados, the Arenas de Barcelona Shopping Complex is located at a strategic point in the city of Barcelona, in front of Plaza de Espana and at the foot of Montjuic, the museum mountain, between the streets of Tarragona, Diputacion, Gran Via and Llanca. It was designed based on large structures made of steel, reinforced concrete, wood, natural stone and large quantities of glass to make the most of the natural light and fabulous views. From the perspective of urban planning, Arenas de Barcelona serves as the main gear of the axis formed by the Palacio Nacional, the emblematic building built for the 1929 Barcelona International Exposition which now houses the Catalan National Art Museum, the Fira de Barcelona Congress Centre, , Plaza de Espana, l’Escorxador park, Tarragona Street and Sants railway station. It has direct connections to two metro lines and to the Catalan Railway.

Address
Neighborhood: Eixample
Passing through the glorious Plaça Catalunya, you enter the newer city district of Eixample, literally translated as “extension,” which immediately becomes recognizable by its more spacious streets and elegant atmosphere. The main artery of this sizable district, Passeig de Gracia, is lined with high-end international designer stores. Not to be outdone, the glitz and glamour of this zone is perhaps best exemplified by the comfortable and lavish five-star hotels that flank the divine and modernistic buildings from some of the world’s most recognized architects such as Gaudi and Montaner.

    Nice sunset viewing spot
We visited after seeing something on social media about the sunset being nice from up there. It’s free to access the rooftop if you go into the shopping centre and use the escalators. There’s a number of bars and restaurants up there too. View is nice.

One of my favorite spots in Barcelona!
This place is spectacular! On top of the roof is a 360 walkway that give you magnificent panoramic views of the city. There are a variety of restaurants and bars on the rooftop level as well. Inside is a shopping mall. Definitely add to your list of places to visit.

Access the viewing platform platform from within the mall because it’s free.
Access the viewing platform platform from within the mall because it’s free. Costs 1.5€ if accessing via the lifts located at street level. Gives you view of the Palau and Plaza Espana roundabout. The shops are average, not many brand names. There is a supermarket and food stalls at the basement. Also a Jamon chain store. No souvenir shops for tourists. Used to be a bull ring and now converted into a mall. There are other more exciting places to visit in Barcelona if you don’t have much time to spare.

A Great View and Some Quality Food
Situated by the Plaza de Espana this is one of the sights I associate with Barcelona, a fantastic use of the old bullring. Ignore the fact there are shops inside as you shouldn't go on holiday to clothes shop and head straight to the roof to take in some great views of the city. Add to the views a nice selection of eateries on the roof and you have a building that has plenty to offer.

    Very nice modern shopping mall
Centro Comercial Las Arenas is a shopping mall located close to the Spain Square, in Barcelona, the main city in Vilanova. It is a very nice and modern shopping mall built, where there was a bullring almost 20 years ago. Nowadays, it is a typical mall, where you can walk, buy all you need, eat and drink in restaurants. Also there are some cinemas, where you can watch the last films. Typical and very nice place to come with friends or children. I came here with friends to have dinner in a fast food restaurant (Boka) and after we went to the cinema to watch Dune 2.

    Interesting bull ring conversion
I remember this as one of two abandoned bull rings in Barcelona. Then it was converted into a shopping centre and restaurant destination, with gym and multi screen cinema. I’d never been in. Decided to explore. Glass lifts, floors and barriers give me vertigo. Couldn’t find the lift to the roof top terrace. Apparently it’s outside and it was bucketing it down. So much better from outside than inside.

Fantastic reuse of the former Barcelona Bull Ring
What ever your views are on bull fighting you cannot fail to be impressed by the conversion of this once derelict historic bull ring into a modern shopping and leisure facility. 360°. It was redesigned by the British architect Richard Rogers, in collaboration with local architects Alonso Balaguer-Arquitectos Asociados and I think they have done a terrific job. As a tourist I had no interest in the cinema or the shops but headed straight for the top floor with its many bars and restaurants and its 360-degree panoramic views of the city. Yes, you can go into the shopping centre and take the escalators up to the top for free, but I am a complete sucker for glass elevators and I had the 1.5Euros out of my pocket immediately for the return ride. Very good mix of bars and restaurants when you get to the top level and on a fine day the views are great, especially at sunset, as others have mentioned.

When you visited Barcelona, you've to visit the Placa Espana, and when you visited the Placa Espana, you'd have to visit the Las Arenas due to it is just located at the heart of Placa Espana.
This shopping mall was used to be a bullfighting arena and was converted into a shopping complex in 2011. This middle-class shopping mall houses more than 110 shops, restaurants, a gym and a 12-screens cinema over 4 floors. It's a modest and easy to walk shopping centre with lots of lovely restaurants and shops.
The highlight of this arena is its rooftop, as it offers a 360-degree bird's eye view of the Placa Espana and the Montjuïc. (You could also take the lift to get up there & it only costs 1 Euro.) There are also a number of restaurants or bars on the rooftop for visitors to enjoy the view. However, in my opinion, the most attractive parts of this shopping arena are:
1) the circle centre in the middle of the shopping mall: Sometimes the overhead projector would turn it into a colourful dancing floor but most of the times it would be used as an exhibition hub.
2) the food court on the lower ground floor: there are a variety of local food stalls which you would definitely find something which suits your stomach. Plus, they have a rare big supermarket (Mercadona) which I thought was fantastic, this was due to I couldn't find any big supermarkets in Barcelona so I was delighted when I found one!
Highly recommended if you're nearby!

As a rule I try to avoid shopping centres, especially when I'm meant to be on holiday, but with there being a few restaurants here it seemed like a decent place to grab a bite to eat while pretending I'm shopping with the wife.

The centre is clean and very modern inside and impressive looking from the outside with a wide array of shops and restaurants to chose from.

Obviously there are many great places to eat in Barcelona but the eateries on the roof of the arena are better quality than your usual shopping centre fast food and if you fancy some retail therapy its as good a place as any.

We had fun viewing the city from the top of this old bull ring. Grabbed a bite to eat at one of the many restaurants on the roof top, then made our way through the shopping center on the escalators. On the way down, we were able to read about the history of the center and its conversion from bull fighting. There is also a movie complex inside but we opted to go watch the Magic Fountain down the street instead of a movie.

We much prefer it as a modern fabulous mall compared to its previous life as a bullring. Its transformation is wonderful, preserving the outline and creating multitudes of space over multi floors.

A plethora of retail and eateries are here. Cinema is in abundance with multi-screens available.

It was grand ascending to the top, exiting onto the roof to be rewarded with stunning vistas all round.

This mall is just 500 meters from the magic fountain. Just 4 subway stops from Liceu station.

But there a very few shops in the mall. There is a cinema and a rooftop where you can get a 360 views of the city. Lots of pricey restaurants on the rooftop.

It is worth a visit if you are going to the magic fountain.

Las Arenas was Barcelona's first bullring arena until it was moved to a bigger venue - Plaza de Toros Monumental, close to Sagrada Familia, and later totally banned.
Today, Arenas is a big shopping mall right on the Plaza de Espana roundabout.
From top floor are great views of MNAC and Montjuic.
