This is a small yet very beautiful church on a hill top overlooking the city of Barcelona. We took an Uber from our hotel at Las Ramblas and arrived at the church 30 minutes before opening. Taxis or Uber will drop you off behind the temple and you’lI need to walk 5-10 min to the top of the hill (easy incline). We went to the Capilla de la Adoracion (Adoration Chapel) first and waited for the temple to open. The top of the hill is nice in the sense that there is a restaurant and clean toilets, and an Amusement Park next door to the temple. The Adoration Chapel is beautiful and free to enter, so don’t miss it. The Temple is also free of charge to enter, but if you want take the elevator to the observation deck on top of the temple (not the one the temple sits on, but the one on top of the church), there is a small fee payable onsite. We did not need to go higher than any of the free areas, so it cost us nothing to visit. We wanted to walk down to the city from the Temple, but quickly discovered that there were walking paths (sidewalks) only through half way, and would have to walk on a highway the rest of the way. We don’t advise this, and we took an Uber coming back down to the city. The Uber ride took about 25 min both ways, so it is not as close to the downtown area as it seems. There may be other public transport way of getting there, but we did not explore any. The view of the city are fantastic from there, and if you want to avoid crowds, go at opening hour on a week day. We went Friday morning and had bot the chapel and the temple to ourselves for the length of our visit. Highly recommend this place.

The Jesus' Sacred Heart Church stands atop the Tibidabo hill in northwestern Barcelona suburbs.
The Church is visible from all over the city as it is the highest point in entire area. It's a pretty young Church built in the first half of 20 c in neo Gothic style.
It has two levels - the lower crypt and the upper Church.
The lower crypt is made of sandstone blocks, beautifully carved and inside are 5 beautiful naves all covered in mosaics depicting St. Anthony, Jesus, Virgin of Montserrat...
Above it, accessible via the exterior staircase is the Church itself - all in marble and very distinctive from the lower crypt. However, the interior is very simple and underwhelming, yet some beautiful stained glass is nice to see.
From the terrace here on the upper level are the best views of Barcelona with literally entire city beneath you.
Entry is free, there's a 5 Euro fee if you want to take the elevator to the towers, but I found no need for that as you're already high above the city.
There's a big parking lot beneath the Church, 5 min walk.

We loved our visit up to Tibidabo! We took the S train out of Barri Gotic, rode the funicular up the mountain, and caught a small bus up to the temple. Then we paid the small fee to ride the elevator up to the observation area and climbed the stairs to the area below the statue of Jesus. The views are amazing and the journey up to the temple felt like an adventure. It was a fun excursion away from the crowds of Barcelona!

I took the 111 bus up to the top which offers some amazing views of Barcelona as it goes up the mountain. From the viewpoint of the temple, you can see the city on one side of the mountain and then miles of forest on the other side! However the temple itself is not much to speak of. The altar is beautiful but if you've been to Sagrada Familia or the monastery of Montserrat then it doesnt even hold a candle to them.

Beautiful building, didn't go inside but the outside is something to see. Worth a visit, just for the views from here. We purchased 2 tickets for e22 which was used on the metro from La Rambla to funicular then 111 bus to here great value. :)

This is not the easiest church to get to but you will be rewarded by the most amazing views of Barcelona. You can see the city from a number of high locations, but none are as good as this.
The church itself is worth visiting with grandiose painted ceilings. One unusual feature is to see high above the altar a painting that contained men in suits.

Loved this temple outside and inside (the entrance is free)!!! It was our highlight of visit to Tibidabo. I just wish we came during the day (and not in the evening when it was dark) so I could take nicer photos and admire the facade better. Also, I saw on other’s pictures that you can go up and have a different point of view (to see the statue of Jesus and the whole view on Tibidabo). I wish we could have done that, but it was too late.

If you go by public transport you need to take the metro to the cable car and then a bus to the Temple. It took longer tha a taxi but much cheaper. The statue of Christ on the top of the temple reminded me of Christ the Redeemer in Rio.

Decided to walk up mount Tibidabo to the Church from the centre of Barcelona. If you enjoy walking its a delight and the reward at the top is well worth it. Took us about 2 hours from Plaça de Catalunya. It was early April so the weather was about 18 C so not too hot. Be careful of google maps as it took up a route via Augusta which was full of steep steps. Amazing church with great views of the whole city

Interesting site. shame is, the best parts can only be seen from the outside far away from the site, not in the enclosure when you can use your audio guide. Huge rip off price min 36 EUR. I wish the pope and his mega rich vatican bank could do something positive and not just rip people off for, god knows what purpose.......Fleece tourists, new religion of the European South????

I've seen many pictures OF THE exterior of the church that were taken from a higher angle. Does anyone know where that location is? Are they taken from the amusement park or something?

Thanks everyone! After extensive research, I found that there is a ride next to the amusement park (panaramic area). The ride is called "Talaia", which takes you 550 above sea level. From there you can take a really nice picture of the church.

There is a regular bus service up there even when the amusement park is closed. The number of the bus service is 111. Please note that the church isn't open to visitors until 11 am. I was lucky enough to be staying next door, so visited quite frequently during my 5 day stay.
Hi, can I visit the terrace with a dog?

I think you can visit the terrace with a dog.

Hi,
Where can I buy tickets to visit the terrace ? I am unable to find any website that sells them.
Thanks

The terrace is free to visit there is a charge if you want to go up the church tower, just buy that on the day.
There is a charge for the funicular railway and tram or bus that you have to use to get to the top of the hill where the terrace is situated.

Muchas gracias!

Hi, we went by car but you can take the bus T2A from Placa Catalunya, Barcelona's main square up to Tibidabo hill where the church is located.
