A lovely basilica in the heart of the old city. Watch out for the long siesta in the middle of the day (closed from about 1pm to 5pm) but otherwise a great, and free, half hour in the shade with some surprising features

In Barcelona you don't have only Sagrada Familia. This piece of art is located in the old part of Barcelona and it is a must see location of the town

This history linked with the building is as interesting as the building is beautiful. Full of surprises and worth spending time in. Every time you look at something you notice more detail. Read reviews of various tour guides and find someone knowledgeable in this area as there are a lot of stories to be told. I would definitely visit again... More

This church is fantastic and it's free. The stained glass is perfect particularly with the sun shining through. The peace and serenity of the whole place is a joy to behold certainly after the hustle and bustle of the Barcelona streets and traffic. See it for yourself and you won't be disappointed.

Very nice church with a lot of little chapels, courtyards, etc. You could spend a lot of time in here if you know what to look for; we just went in as a "target of opportunity".

I only saw it from the outside but it was amazing all the figures that were there and they all meant one thing or the other. It is a sight to see and it is still not finished

This Basilica was built by the people and has a simple exterior and interior with clean lines throughout giving a very spacious feeling with a high vaulted ceiling When we visited the church is free to visit till 1pm but charges in the afternoon. Afterwards visit the The Fossar de les Moreres memorial with its eternal flame adjacent to the... More

We were staying round the corner and decided to visit during a rainfall. Mass was being celebrated and the organ added so much to our visit

I live in Barcelona. I recommend you sincerely to visit Santa Maria del Mar, if possible by sunshine to see the colour effects of the vitrals inside. It's a very special place that invites to silence and beauty.

I was anticipating to visit the Basilica de Santa Maria Del Mar. I had seen some pictures online that motivated me to see this church with my own eyes. I was not disappointed. It truly looks like an old basilica. It is quite rustic! After all it had been built in 1329. It is 687 years old. Way older than... More

Staying in El Born / La Ribera

Neighborhood Profile
El Born / La Ribera
The labyrinth that is El Born becomes most apparent the moment you turn down one of its side streets. But this is one of the few labyrinths you might actually enjoy losing your way in. After all, there are few places that live and breathe such exciting energy regardless of the time of day. This neighborhood seamlessly transcends the old and new parts of the city, reflected in its vast array of restaurants ranging from fancy Michelin-star establishments to trendy fusion restaurants. Here you'll find historical and cultural attractions such as the popular Picasso Museum and the Gothic cathedral La Santa Maria del Mar, where you just might be able to catch a traditional Catalan wedding.
