About
The Tablao de Carmen pays tribute to the great flamenco dancer, Carmen Amaya, born in 1913 in the gypsy quarter of Somorrostro which then existed in what is today Barcelona's Olympic Village. Carmen Amaya made her debut in 1929 before King Alfonso XII on the site which is today the Tablao de Carmen at the inauguration of Poble Espanyol de Montjuic. The Tablao offers a top quality pure flamenco show, a direct descendant of the tradition. It dynamically presents several of the most important palos or styles of flamenco so that the spectator can get to know the richness and variety of this art form. It also highlights its different forms of expression: instrumental, vocal and dance.

We loved the whole ambience of the venue (within the architectural museum). The dancers were all ages, and were truly astouding in their energy and natural flow, unchoreographed but in harmony with the musicians: I am not sure who was leading whom, and I think it varied, but it was passionate, moving and mesmerizing. Wonderful dancers, wonderful musicians, who played off each other beautifully. The food was very good and was satisfying and interesting, and we had a bottle of wine between us, as part of the package. It was fascinating (sfter the show) to meet the owner/manager who told us some of the background to the venue, including that the eldest dancer had been dancing there since she was young (and had retained her passion, energy and movement). Worth having a meal with the show. Enjoyed the show immensely. I went with my son who is in a wheelchair and access was good. There was also someone else there in a power wheelchair.

I am sorry we are responding quite late.
But I am really grateful to read your kind report about your visit to the Tablao de Carmen. It is a beautiful thing to see how everyone appreciates and enjoys the naturally, spontaneity and the strength of the flamenco performance in an environment conceived for its appreciation.
It was a pleasure to meet you and I take this opportunity to thank you personally for your kind and detailed words.
All the best,
Mimo

The location is in the Spanish village, an excerpt from all regions in Spain. Everything is closed on Sundays and during the evening event, so arriving early to see the show is not a good idea.
The event itself is OK, but not really good value for money. Our waiter was very inattentive, tapas only came after we asked and sporadically, and he didn't even manage to make the coffee. The quality of the tapas was in the lower third. The show is OK, but nothing special, the entertainment in some hotels has shown better flamenco.

We purchased our tickets online and enjoyed the free admission to the Poble Espanyol (for 7:30 performance, you can enter the Spanish Village at 5:45). Since we chose the drinks-only option, we were seated in the upstairs gallery. That worked out even better, since the venue is the size of a big restaurant and the upstairs provided perfect viewing of the performers. No ending up with pictures of the back of someone’s head or a waiter, delivering plates of food as if they were ceramic Frisbees. My previous experience with flamenco has been at larger venues, usually at international arts festivals. I’ve seen Paco Pena’s troupe several times. I thought the performers at La Tablao de Carmen were of good quality and entertaining. There were about 7 dancers, with accompanying guitarists and singers.

This was a good event but I would have done a few things different.
1. Just do tapas... no need for the plated dinner
2. This is in a village but if you do the late show the village is closed when you arrive. Do the early show
3. Take a taxi. It is a 25 min walk up the hill from Espanya Metro station. Taxi would have made it more enjoyable for my wife
4. Order the sangria...Very tasty
5. If you have tapas get in 45 mins before the show. That will give you time to relax when you eat.
6. Plan for 45 minutes to enjoy the village before you still down for tapas.

I booked this restaurant through Expedia which included the entrance fee to the Poble Espanyol. Lots of reviwers on this site have advised others to stay away from "Flamenco" as it is not traditional to Barcelona BUT I would highly rate the experience here - my sister and I were amazed by the dexterity, passion and skill of the performers. The setting is quite rustic but highly organised. We were served straight away, had a fantastic table in front of the tiny stage. We were served immediately with drinks and our orders taken. The choice whilst not great was certainly adequate and tasted really good.
The performers came on during our main course and I was so flabbergasted by their skill I actually stopped eating!! (a first for me). The dancers and singers ouzed passion and their performance especially the male dancer towards the end of the show was electrifying. I can not leave out the skill of the guitar players - absolutely first class. My sister and I were bowled over by this experience and would certainly recommend it - especially as my sisters JUG of sangria was filled up twice!!

Great food and exciting show! We had the Carmen menu with a great selection of tapas, an entree, dessert, and pitcher of Sangria. We brought our kids, ages 1 and 4, and even though the show portion was an hour, it really held their attention. The dancing was fantastic and like nothing we had attended before. Definitely arrive early to walk through Poble Espanyol; we were a little rushed due to our reservation time but the shops are neat. I'd recommend the show and would go again on a return trip to Barcelona.

We booked tickets thru the El Tablao de Carmen website for the 7:30 show including tapas and we were not disappointed. Do yourself a favor and take the bus to Poble Espanyol and it will let you out right in front. Go to the ticket counter and let them know that you have reservations at the show and you can get in for free as there is normally a fee. Poble Espanyol is a small village inside it's own walls with little shops and restaurants which is quite nice to walk around in. You will not receive tickets in the mail for the show just print out your confirmation e mail and they will take that at the door of the restaurant. It was nice to try the different tapas and also included in the price was a bottle of wine and bottled water which was very good. Service was right on but even if the food had been bad and the service horrible the price you pay is well worth it just for the show. It seemed to us that the people who ordered dinner were seated closest to the stage followed by the tapas and the people who just had drinks were the farthest out. The performance was outstanding. Even though the show runs twice a night 5 times a week the performers put so much heart and soul into their dance that you can't take your eyes off of them. If you do nothing else while in Barcelona you have got to do this!

El Tablao de Carmen, in Barcelona Spain - Poble Espanyol... is the WORST experience I have ever had in a Restaurant anywhere in the world. The Restaurant is very small and does not cater to the disabled. We went as a group of approximately 20 (elderly) people. We paid to see a show (which was very expensive-$150 per individual) of flamenco dancing. Since we were not 'dinner' guests, they put us in the nose bleed section...upstairs, and you couldn't see the stage unless you were right up in the very front. We had six of us who're disabled and couldn't walk up the stairs. They resentfully allowed those guests downstairs. However the Restaurant Manager: Marta Amoros, quicklly compensated for her resentment by aggressively confronting the other guests in our group upstairs and forcibly moved them (literally took their personal belongings against their wishes) to seats further back where they would not be able to see the show. This developed into a huge argument between various individuals in our group and the restaurant manager and waitress and by this time the show had already started. This restaurant is not hospitable to the disabled and the manager was so disorganized and incompetent. She quickly became confrontational and aggressive, and our group was threatened to have the police called to remove them from the restaurant if they did not comply in moving to the back of the upstairs (the stage was downstairs). Now mind you, ours was a group of elderly individuals, 65 - 85 yrs of age who paid a lot of money to see this show. In the end, i took note that the tables they forced us to clear remained empty for the remainder of the evening.

Answer form the Manager of Tablao de Carmen:
Please note that Tablao de Carmen do have special ramps to make easier the access for people with any kind of mobility problem and we have one toilette exclusively and specially adapted for disabled people.
Furthermore, we are not only prepared to welcome elderly and disable clients but we are also pleased to do so and used to it. We do receive an average of 4 to 5 weekly groups with this kind of characteristics and it has never been a problem nor for us neither for the clients the fact of their disability.
Usually when we have to receive guests with a mobility problem we are informed in advance so we can place the access ramps to save the entrance steps before their arrival and we can plan in advance their allocation in the most accessible sitting for them in the Tablao. Sometimes although we are not informed in advance that some members of the groups have some disabilities, so we can plan in advance a proper allocation, we do nevertheless offer a solution on their arrival, but of course in these cases everything has to be improved on the spot and we have to try not to disturbing other customers.
As our name says we are not a restaurant but a Tablao of Flamenco. Besides this, our capacity is up to 150 people big enough for being a Tablao.
We do basically offer a Flamenco show and consequently we do have all the tables distributed around the stage, in three different levels in order to allow good visibility to all tables and guests and to allow artists on the stage to transmit their power and feeling to the clients, as this is the main aim of any Tablao.
Our clients have the option of having a drink, tapas or dinner during the show but this does not have any repercussion on the assignment of the tables. We do assign the tables according to the final number of people and groups as we always try to keep groups together. This is the reason why most of the groups up to 35 people are allocated in the “balcony”, an upper section with a front and perfect view to the stage that allows groups to be together and with more privacy than in any other place at the Tablao.
Regarding the prices please note that our prices which are public to all guests through our web page and through the rates published at our main entrance, are as follows: 35€ show and drink, 45€ show and tapas and 69€ show and dinner a la carte.
The team of the Tablao de Carmen is continuously working to improve and to offer a better service each day. Prices are equal for everybody and so is our service.
With best regards,
El Tablao de Carmen

I booked this on the internet before we travelled on the advice given on TA, remember to write down what you are about to book because you get no confirmation that includes times or dates! Tablao de Carmen is a restaurant with live Flamenco inside Poble Espanyol, which is a pupose built copy of Spanish architecture. We were there for the 19:30 show so we could get in from 17:45 for free. The place is quite small, intimate would describe it well, but this is good because no matter where you are you will get a great view. As spotted by another contributor, if you go for the meal you are closest to the stage, in fact the dancers could almost stand in your food, then the tapas people and after that people just drinking. The tapas is probably best overall value. Food was reasonable but not outstanding but the show was absolutely fantastic. There we 2 halves with a brief intermission for change of clothes etc. I think in total there were 3 women and 2 men dancing, 4 guitarists and 4 men and 1 woman singing. The energy, passion, makeup and costumes were all excellent. I'm not an expert but it seemed to me to be genuine and not tamed or watered down for the tourists. You will have missed a treat if you don't go.

My husband and I attended this show after reading reviews on TripAdvisor, and we are so happy we did! We were seated immediately right next to the stage. The theater is small so all seats are great. I noticed that the people who purchased dinners were seated right in front of the stage, the people purchasing tapas were one row back (still great seats) or on the sides of the stage (where we were located). There were seats up a bit higher that were empty, but I would assume those seats would be used for people who purchased drinks only. Our tapas and wine/sangria came right away, and there was so much food that we couldn't even finish it. Although I must admit I am no expert on Flamenco, my husband and I were amazed at the intensity of the dancers, and we couldn't take our eyes off of them. I would go again in a heart beat!
One additional note: I initially tried to book through a booking company, but it showed the show as "sold out." I then went directly to the show's website at http://www.tablaodecarmen.com/index.php?lang=en and found plenty of availability.

Can I take the cable car up to Mont Juic & The Spanish Village, then walk to the Magic Fountain?
Thank you very much!

How long is the show typically for the earlier seatings?
Written January 3, 2020
Hi Barkley!
For the 1st show, doors open at 6, and show starts at 6.45
For the 2nd show, doors open at 8.30 and show stars at 21.15
The show lasts one hour :-)

If I were to watch the 6pm show, what time would the show end? Would it be safe for a single lady to walk from Poble Espanyol to Font Magica de Montjuic after the show?
Written November 2, 2019
Hi!
Our first show starts at 6.45 (we open doors at 6).
The show finishes around 7.45. It is perfectly safe to walk to the fountains at that time.
As a logical advice, we recommend casual wear rather than an elegant outfit.
Hope this is helpful!
We hope to see you soon in the Tablao de Carmen

Hi I noted there are two possible bookings either 18:30 or 20:30.
What time does the show start?
If for example we made a booking at 18:30 and we booked dinner as well what time is dinner served?
With the booking is it free to enter the village and what time does everything close there?
What is the public transport like at night to the centre of Barcelona?
Thanks
Written March 22, 2019
Hi!
thanks for asking about The Tablao de Carmen :-)
The show starts at 19.15 for the first option, and at 21.15 for the second option.
The dinner is served just before the show begins, and you can watch the dance whereas you are eating.
The entrance to the Spanish Village is included with your booking for 4pm.
The public transport at night is completely safe in Barcelona.
Please let us know if you need any further information.

There is bus transportation available to the poble espagnol. it happened that i booked a 2-days ride with the hopon/hopoff touristic bus. So on the tablao de carmen show night i took the touristic bus and got to the poble espagnol station, and i walked to the tablao de carmen restaurant (like 5-7 min walk). And when the show finished, i took a taxi back to the hotel.
