The area
Neighborhood: Barrio Gòtico (Barri Gòtic)
With its iconic, old-Europe streets and alleys, this picturesque neighborhood is the very heart of Barcelona. It blends historic artifacts from its days under Roman dominion up through the Spanish Civil War with a vibrant modern-day culture of artisan shops and authentic culinary experiences. Avid explorers will be thrilled to discover quaint terraces and plazas brought to life by the many small bars and local musicians lasting late into the night. Fashionistas will be drawn to Portal de L’Angel, which is lined with well-known brand names and smaller boutique stands.

I love IMAX movies and I loved this place when it opened up. Sadly there seems to have been no money spent for maintenance in the last 20 years. The place is falling apart in front of your eyes. The restaurant and the bar are closed, the posters outside are faded, the neon signs are broken and the whole place is dirty.
When I visited, there was only one nice but overworked woman there, who had to handle ticket sales and admittance all by herself, so she was constantely running from one place to the other. I saw two pictures, unfortunately both in 3D. The reusable glasses were so worn down and dirty, that I saw the first movie with one eye only and the second one as if a bank of fog was between me and the screen.

My friends had heard that IMAX was great and never having been were keen to give it a try. Since none of us really speak Spanish we picked a documentary about sharks to watch. It was very disappointing, perhaps because it was filmed under water, but the 3D was poor and picture blurry, so I suggest you don't waste your money on this.

I saw a few documentary films here, pretty long time ago. There were two available projection systems,IMAX and OMNIMAX.In the second one the movie is projected on a semispherical screen, not only in front of you but also over your head.An interesting experience.

Walked over to the IMAX as I saw the posters and the bus tour mentioned it, however it is closed. Shame as the place seems quite nice but has gone down hill.

We love IMAX films and try to catch one when we travel with the kids. In a tourist city like Barcelona, we expected them to have showings in multiple languages. Unfortunately, they were only showing films in spanish when we were there. In Spain, I'd expect most of the showings to be in Spanish. However, I'd expect some films to have showings in primary languages like French and English.

Unfortunately, this wasn't the case.

We go to this place every time we are in Barcelona. However, the quality of the documentaries (they dont show films) is poor, the glasses are old and scratched, and the productions are old. Now with imax films in 3D (e.g. Prometheus)' Barcelona's imax should be closed, its novelty is over. One more thing, the toilets are disgusting with poo and blood on the floors and no toilet paper. Avoid this place.

We booked our event at IMAX Barcelona august 2006. Just before the event they cancelled the booking and didn't offer any payment of damages or another solution.
We were stuck with 120 people with hotel bookings, flight tickets, catering, music etc.

Reason of the cancellation was the selling on of the rights of renting out the venue to another company.

At the moment we are starting a courtcase to claim our damages.
Person responsible was Jordi Gil

I would not advice anyone to book their venue with them as I can assure you that a last minute cancellation will get your stress levels high up and your bank accounts plummet down.
